SAVE THE DATE -- Jubilee Summit We heard you! After last fall s Summit on Church Administration, positive feedback indicated the desire for another opportunity to gather. Building on this success, our signature diocesan event for the Jubilee of Mercy will be a Jubilee Summit this fall. Two options will be provided, Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. We re welcoming all those involved in outreach ministries, in our parishes and beyond, who are witnessing to the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. More details are coming. Bishop On the Camino Share with your parishioners a link to the vocations blog and videos, chronicling the pilgrimage of five of our seminarians on a faith journey as they walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain. James has just joined Reed, Alex, Ben and Nick on the camino, also known as the Way of St. James. Share the link in your parish e-newsletters and bulletins. It is imperative that those audits be submitted immediately so that we can assemble the most accurate statistics for the annual audit required of all dioceses by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. We appreciate all of your cooperation in our diocesan effort to assure a safe environment for our children.
2 Communication Newspaper readership survey We need your help getting at least 1,000 responses to our readership survey of The Catholic Mirror. Please encourage your parishioners to complete the short survey that s available either in The Catholic Mirror or at this link. Share the link in your parish e-newsletters and bulletins. Newspaper subscription drive Parishioners should have received an invitation this week to take a subscription to The Catholic Mirror newspaper. Please encourage parishioners to support this important evangelization tool. Advertising rates Advertising rates for The Catholic Mirror have not changed in about 15 years. Given the increased cost of paper, postage and printing over that time, we have re-evaluated our rate structure and will be increasing rates about 5 percent, eliminating some discounts while adding others. New rates will become effective with the August edition of The Catholic Mirror. Catholic Charities Second Collection The bishop has included Catholic Charities in this year s special collections on the weekend of July 17. Please consider a contribution. The money will go directly to the service of those in need in our community. Parenting during Summer Break Summer break is a time when children have less structure and routine, says Harmony Linden, L.I.S.W., with Catholic Charities Center for Life Counseling. This might lead to more defiance or new problems with behavior. Sometimes parents feel overwhelmed or anxious about their children when they are out of school. It s tempting for parents to set an agenda for our kids or to keep them busy as a way to prevent behavioral problems. For some, this works well, but when children resist, the whole family can squabble. If tension is high in your family while the kids are out of school, you may be wondering how to get things back on track... Read more here. Employment Opportunities Catholic Charities is currently recruiting for a number of openings in our Des Moines and Council Bluffs offices. Please visit our website at to learn more.
