Public Domain CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS P: The Gospel for this Christ the King Sunday tells of the final judgment. C: The question of the parable is who can be saved? P: The sheep. The sheep are those who have: C: Fed the hungry. P: Given a drink to the thirsty. C: Visited the stranger. P: Clothed the naked. C: Cared for the sick. P: Remembered those in prison. C: We confess that we have shortcomings in many of these expectations. P: We confess that we sometimes grow weary of hearing about what others need. C: We confess that we can feel that hands are always out. P: We confess that it can seem like there is no end to need. C: Lord, have mercy. P: Christ, have mercy. It is God s promise to have mercy on us. May that bountiful grace continue to shape us into a sharing and caring people. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake God forgives you all your sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. PASSING OF THE PEACE

2 PRAYER OF THE DAY: All: O God of power and might, your Son shows us the way of service, and in him we inherit the riches of your grace. Give us the wisdom to know what is right and the strength to serve the world you have made, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. PRAYER & BLESSING FOR DEPLOYMENT P: Cari Howell, from our church family has been called to military service and we invite her to come forward to receive our prayers and blessing: P: As our sister in Christ, you have been called to duty on our behalf to serve and defend our nation and our liberty. This body of Christ thanks you with heartfelt gratitude for your willingness to serve at this time. United with you in faith and in citizenship, we wish to enfold you in our love and surround you with prayer, blessing and the assurance of God's presence as you go forth from this place to fulfill your call. Let us pray. Lord of the nations and King of the universe, we give you profound thanks for all those who answer the call at this time to serve our nation and to defend and protect our way of life, we pray especially for Cari. What lies ahead is in large measure unknown to us and unknown to those who serve. Yet some awareness of the perils and dangers gives us prayerful pause to seek your aid. P: Be present with and guide all our military personnel. Sharpen their skills. Make their judgments true. Give them those things necessary to achieve their goals and defend our cause. P: Give to each man and woman your special love, strength, wisdom and grace, that their fears may be laid aside, their faith fostered, their courage made sure, and their spirits comforted by the knowledge of your divine presence throughout their days. P: Guard and protect them from evil and the ways of darkness that threaten us. Send your holy angels to have charge over them and bear them up. Bring to us all the victory of light over darkness as you are the God of light and love. P: Above all, bless all soldiers, men and women, with a holy blessing that will sustain them in the face of whatever may come. Bless as well our nation, its leaders and its military services that truth, justice, and liberty may prevail and prosper by your aid. For you are the God of blessings and providence, the Source of all good, the Sustainer of our lives, and to you belongs all praise and glory, through your Son Jesus Christ, now and forever. A WARMER DAY: The Women of the ELCA of American Lutheran are sponsoring a project to collect coats for A Warmer Day, a non-profit organization in Nebraska dedicated to assisting others by distributing coats and winter apparel for those in need.
