Welcome to Albright United Methodist Church April 2, 2017 Rev. Steven Lamb Donna Fosbrink: Choir Director Pianist/Organist: Jeanne Meyers

Bringing forth the Light The Old Rugged Cross Made the Difference

Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me 361 WORDS: Augustus M. Toplady, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee;

let the water, and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed,

be of sin the double cure; save from wrath, and make me pure.

2. Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law s demands;

could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow,

all for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling;

naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace;

foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death,

when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgment throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hidemyself in thee.

*Call to Worship: L: Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. P: O God our rock and redeemer, hear our prayers for your world this day. Pastor: Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. L: Jesus wept. P: We pray for those awash with tears, for those struggling with illness, depression and despair; for those who know hunger, war and oppression. Be their hope and comfort, gracious and loving God. L: Jesus stood at the tomb, and wept. P: We pray for those who know grief this day, who stand with loved ones on the threshold between life and death, who long for the good news of Easter to come, and come quickly

L: Jesus stood at the tomb and commanded, Pastor: Roll away the stone. P: We pray for those of us who feel trapped, O God, trapped in our own tombs of fear, doubt and apathy; tombs of arrogant pride, or dull selfloathing. Roll away the stone. Free us for loving service in your name. L: Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. Pastor: Roll away the stone. All: Amen.

* Invocation: Gracious God, make me sensitive to all the evidences of your goodness; and may I, trusting in you, free myself of the terror of death, and feel free to live intensely and happily the life you have given me. Amen.

Ezekiel 37: The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he brought me out by the spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me all around them; there were very many lying in the valley, and they were very dry. 3 He said to me, Mortal, can these bones live? I answered, O Lord GOD, you know. 4 Then he said to me, Prophesy to these bones, and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. 5 Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.

6 I will lay sinews on you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath [b] in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD. 7 So I prophesied as I had been commanded; and as I prophesied, suddenly there was a noise, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 I looked, and there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them; but there was no breath in them.

9 Then he said to me, Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, mortal, and say to the breath: [c] Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. 10 I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood on their feet, a vast multitude. 11 Then he said to me, Mortal, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are cut off completely.

12 Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: I am going to open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people; and I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and bring you up from your graves, O my people. 14 I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your own soil; then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken and will act, says the LORD.

INVITATION A SERVICE OF WORD AND TABLE II Christ the Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another.

Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

CONFESSION AND PARDON Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church.

We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy.

Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God s love toward us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Glory to God. Amen.

THANKSGIVING AND COMMUNION THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.

By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples and said:

Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:

Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ s offering for us,

as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine.

Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,

until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

He Touched Me 367 WORDS: William J. Gaither, 1963 (Mt. 8:3; Mk. 1:41; Lk. 5:13) 1. Shackled by a heavy burden, neath a load of guilt and shame, 1963 William J. Gaither

then the hand of Jesus touched me, and now I am no longer the same.

Refrain He touched me, O he touched me, and O the joy that floods my soul!

Something happened, and now I know, he touched me and made me whole.

2. Since I met this blessed Savior, since he cleansed and made me whole,

I will never cease to praise him; I ll shout it while eternity rolls.

Refrain He touched me, O he touched me, and O the joy that floods my soul!

Something happened, and now I know, he touched me and made me whole.

Praise Petitions, Joys and Concerns

2 Peter 1: His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature. 5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge,

6 and knowledge with self-control, and selfcontrol with endurance, and endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. 8 For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For anyone who lacks these things is short-sighted and blind, and is forgetful of the cleansing of past sins.

Nothing Between 373 WORDS: Charles Albert Tindley, ca Nothing between my soul and my Savior, naught of this world s delusive dream;

I have renounced all sinful pleasure; Jesus is mine, there s nothing between.

Refrain Nothing between my soul and my Savior, so that his blessed face may be seen;

nothing preventing the least of his favor; keep the way clear! let nothing between.

2. Nothing between, like worldly pleasure; habits of life, though harmless they seem,

must not my heart from him ever sever, he is my all, there s nothing between.

Refrain Nothing between my soul and my Savior, so that his blessed face may be seen;

nothing preventing the least of his favor; keep the way clear! let nothing between.

3. Nothing between, like pride or station; self or friends shall not intervene;

though it may cost me much tribulation, I am resolved, there s nothing between.

Refrain Nothing between my soul and my Savior, so that his blessed face may be seen;

nothing preventing the least of his favor; keep the way clear! let nothing between.

4. Nothing between, e en many hard trials, though the whole world against me convene;

watching with prayer and much self-denial, I ll triumph at last, there s nothing between.

Refrain Nothing between my soul and my Savior, so that his blessed face may be seen;

nothing preventing the least of his favor; keep the way clear! let nothing between.
