1 OURSAVIOURLUTHERANCHURCH th Street Jamaica, Queens, NYC Rev. Robert "Bob" Fritch, Senior Pastor Rev. John Heidgerd, Associate Pastor Kurena Dilchand, Volunteer Coordinator Christ the King Sunday Even after Israel had experienced the vagaries of kings, they still longed for a true king to set things right. He would have the king's title of Anointed One (Messiah); he would be the "one like a human being" (Son of Man) given dominion in Daniel's vision. Jesus is given these titles, even though he is nothing like an earthly king. His authority comes from the truth to which he bears witness, and those who recognize the truth voluntarily listen to him. We look forward to the day he is given dominion, knowing his victory will be the nonviolent victory of love. Gathering Prayer please stand if you are able Christ the King Sunday November 26, 2017 Welcome! It is wonderful to worship with you today! We give thanks to God for this day and the opportunity to gather together as God's family to be fed with God's Word that sustains us for daily life. If you are joining us for the first time, please sign the guest book in the rear of the church or fill out the tearoff card on the back cover of this bulletin and place it in the offering plate. All parts of today's worship service are printed in this service bulletin. Restrooms can be found downstairs. We request that all cell phones and beepers be turned off when you enter the sanctuary. Thank you. Parents with small children are welcome to use the church entryway area (through the glass doors) for quiet time. There is a changing table in the Women's bathroom. 1 Gathering Hymn 1. 2 Brief Order For Confession and Forgiveness Please remain standing Pastor: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen Pastor: In Christ's dying and rising, we are reborn; we are no longer dead in our sin. Let us return to the shepherd and guardian of our souls, confessing our sin. If you are able, please kneel -- or you may be seated Pastor: Almighty God... All: We confess before you our preference for things that pass away, our silence in the face of injustice, our reluctance to accept the freedom of forgiveness. Make us whole again; renew in us the grace of baptism; and set our minds on the things that are above. Opening Hymn please stand if you are able 1. Blessing and honor and glory and pow'r, Wisdom and riches and strength evermore, Offer to him who our battle has won, Whose are the kingdom, the crown, and the throne; Whose are the kingdom, the crown, and the throne! 2. Let all the heavens resound with his name; Let all the earth sing his glory and fame. Ocean and mountain, stream, forest, and flow'r Echo his praises and tell of his pow'r; Echo his praises and tell of his pow'r. 3. Ever ascending the song and the joy, Ever descending the love from on high; Blessing and honor and glory and praise This is the theme of the hymns that we raise; This is the theme of the hymns that we raise. 4. Give we the glory and praise to the Lamb! Take we the robe and the harp and the psalm; Sing we the song of the Lamb who was slain, Dying in weakness and rising to reign Dying in weakness and rising to reign! Please remain kneeling Pastor: God calls us to seek good and to turn away from evil. To those who believe in Jesus Christ, God grants forgiveness of sin, strength in weakness, and the promise of eternal salvation. Pastor: The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. All: And also with you. All: Amen Pastor: Let us pray... O God of power and might, your Son shows us the way of service, and in him we inherit the riches of your grace. Give us the wisdom to know what is right and the strength to serve the world you have made, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. All: Amen. 2

3 Hymn of Praise 1. I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy - to stay 2. I've got the peace that passes understanding I've got the peace that passes understanding - to stay 3. I've got the love of Jesus, love of Jesus I've got the love of Jesus, love of Jesus - to stay please be seated First Lesson Ephesians 1: New Revised Standard Version In this passage, God is praised for revealing ultimate divine power in raising Jesus from the dead. The resurrected, exalted Christ is Lord of both the church and the entire universe, now and in the age to come. 15 I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. 20 God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. 22 And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. 3 Gospel Hymn Part 1 Please stand if you are able Break now the bread of life, Dear Lord to me, As once you broke the loaves beside the sea. Beyond the Sacred page, I seek you Lord; My spirit waits for you, O living Word. Bless your own truth dear Lord, To me, to me, As When you blest the bread by Galilee. Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall; And I shall find my peace, my all in all! Psalm Psalm 95: 1-7a Lector: O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! All: Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Lector: For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. All: In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. Lector: The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have formed. All: O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! Lector: For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. O that today you would listen to his voice! All: Amen.

4 Reading of the Gospel Lesson Matthew 25: New Revised Standard Version Jesus compares himself to a king who moves among his subjects to see how he is treated: what is done for the least of those who belong to his family is truly done for him. 31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. 37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you? 40 And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you? 45 Then he will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. 4 Gospel Hymn part 2 You are the Bread of Life, Dear Lord to me, Your Holy Word the truth that rescues me. Give me to eat and live with you above; Teach me to love your truth, for you are love. Oh, send your Spirit Lord, now unto me, That he may touch my eyes and make me see. Show me the truth concealed within your Word, And in your book revealed I see my Lord. Sermon Hymn of the Day please be seated Rev. Robert "Bob" Fritch please stand for the hymn 1. Crown him with many crowns, The Lamb upon his throne; Hark, how the heav nly anthem drowns All music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing Of him who died for thee, And hail him as thy matchless king Through all eternity. 2. Crown him the lord of love Behold his hands and side, Rich wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified. No angels in the sky Can fully bear that sight, But down-ward bend their burning eyes At mysteries so bright. 3. Crown him the Lord of peace, Whose pow'r a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, Absorbed in prayer and praise, His reign shall know no end, And round his pierced feet Fair flow'rs of paradise extend Their fragrance ever sweet. please be seated

In the fullness of time, you sent your Son, Jesus Christ to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us and to reconcile us to you. In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples saying: Take and eat; this is my body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them to the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Pastor: It is right and a good and joyful thing always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. You are the one who was, and is, and is yet to come. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection, and looking for his coming again in glory, we offer you, O God, this bread and cup. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts, that all who eat and drink at this table may be one body, one holy people, a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord. All: Amen 6
