3 Women s Ministry to Host Spring Gathering Redeemer s Women s Ministry is hosting a gathering for women on March 9, 9 am 2:30 pm. This gathering will bring women from the UP together with a focus on mission outreach. All women are invited to join with ladies from Lutheran churches around the UP at the Zone 2 Spring LWML Rally on Saturday, March 9, at Redeemer. Registration will open at 9:00 am, and coffee and refreshments will be available until the program begins at 9:30 am. Members of Redeemer s Mission Team will present on their missions to Honduras. Allison Hein, Christian Life leader, and her team, will share a Bible study called True Worship Hinges on Honor. Deaconess Betty Knapp will share a celebration of 75 years of LWML history, based on her study given at the 75 th Anniversary National Convention. Participants are asked to bring cereal, fruit cups, dried fruit, granola/protein bars, peanut butter and crackers, or shelf stable milk, to be distributed to school children at KI Sawyer. There will be a $5.00 registration fee. The event will conclude around 2:30 pm. Please sign up on the Women's Ministry board by March 4. Babysitting can be available upon request for children age 10 and under. Notify Amy Gawry of babysitting needs by February 28 at amgawry@gmail.com. Some donations for refreshments will also be needed - check the bulletin board for specifics and to sign up. Spring Food Drive Redeemer Women s Ministry will be collecting food for school children at KI Sawyer as an in-gathering at the upcoming LWML Zone 2 Spring Rally, and would like to invite the congregation to participate. By making this food drive church wide, our efforts can go much farther in helping these children. Hunger is not a seasonal problem that only needs to be addressed at the holidays. While many of these families receive other assistance, the sad reality is that the assistance gets used for goods for the parents, rather than nutritional food for the children. We are asking people to bring items that children can use without parental assistance - cereal, fruit cups, dried fruit, granola/protein bars, peanut butter and crackers, or shelf stable milk. Food items will be collected on the tables near the office the weekends of March 2-3 and March

5 Lenten Series Begins March Convicted A Worship Series for Lent Convicted is a themed Lenten series that includes full worship liturgies and sermons that enable the congregation to step into a court room for Ash Wednesday and the following five weeks of Lent. Each Convicted service puts a different Biblical person on trial, accused of a 21st century crime. An overall guiding question leads the arguments of each case while the congregation serves as the jury. March 6: Ash Wednesday Defamation of Character Mark 14:9 March 13: Lent 2 Dereliction of Duty Matthew 26:40 March 20: Lent 3 Treason Matthew 26:15 March 27: Lent 4 Perjury Matthew 26:74 April 3: Lent 5 Obstruction of Justice John 18:38 April 10: Lent 6 Rebellion Matthew 27:17 Everyone is invited to enjoy a delicious meal before we worship together at 7:00 pm. Sermon On the Mount Message Series Join us every Saturday or Sunday during Lent as we study the Sermon on the Mount. This six-week series will take us through some of the most familiar teachings of Jesus from his Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7 and relates them to the events surrounding Christ s life, death and resurrection. In the process, the services will powerfully reveal that the cross itself is the ultimate sermon on the mount for our journey of faith in this sacred season. 9 SCRIPTURE READINGS Joel 2: Even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. 13 Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. 14 Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing grain offerings and drink offerings for the Lord your God. 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. 16 Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber. 17 Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say, Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God? 18 Then the Lord was jealous for his land 9 and took pity on his people. 19 The Lord replied to them: I am sending you grain, new wine and olive oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an object of scorn to the nations. 1Peter 2: Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 As you come to him, the living Stone rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says: See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame. 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, 8 and, A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. (continued on next page...)
10 SCRIPTURE READINGS They stumble because they disobey the message which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Matthew 5: Now then Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them. He said: 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10
