2 Page 2 B REAST CANCER ANGELS Ministry Partners Breast Cancer Angels is an outreach ministry to assist those in need during cancer treatment. Faye Dietiker is the Founder and Director, and a cancer survivor herself, who knows through personal experience the challenging journeys for families and friends dealing with breast cancer. Faye and her husband Don are tireless in their dedication to provide the unmet needs of the people God directs to their organization. Friday Study Ministries offers spiritual support to this loving, compassionate organization and their families in need. Faye s prayer for these families is always for physical, spiritual and emotional healing. Through our prayer ministry we lift up their requests to the Lord on a weekly basis. Also, Don & Faye Dietiker are members of the Friday Study Ministries Board of Directors. We are privileged and honored to be partners with Breast Cancer Angels and assist them in fulfilling their mission. We encourage you to join their Angel Team. Sue Beeney, Founder and Director of this precious nonprofit ministry, started the organization to reach the unmet needs of grieving people she witnessed as a hospice nurse. Sue and her husband Rick have become dear friends to Pastor Ron and Genevieve. Ron and Gen are trained facilitators for New Hope s grief support groups and use New Hope s grief handbooks, one for adults and one for children, in their Friday Study Ministries outreach. C AMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST New Hope now offers special camps for grieving children. We are honored to be ministry partners with New Hope Grief Support Community. We met Jaci on our trip to Israel in She is a young, enthusiastic woman with a passion for our Lord. Jaci felt God calling her into full-time ministry to college students with Campus Crusade for Christ, after completing her college degree last year. She has been involved with international ministry work and on the youth staff of her home church. Jaci is truly an inspiration and a wonderful ambassador for Jesus. She asked us to partner with her in ministry to reach her goal of serving the Lord on college campuses. We, of course, said yes to partnership with her prayer and financial teams. 3 GOOD NEWS IN MEMORY PLAQUE God shows the importance of the ministry of prayer and comfort to the grieving in so many ways. Pastor Ron and Genevieve participated at the July unveiling ceremony of the Vietnam War In Memory Memorial Plaque near The Wall in Washington, DC. Pastor Ron was asked by the American Battle Monuments Commission to present the Invocation and Benediction at the ceremony, honoring those who have died prematurely since the war, due to illnesses and conditions resulting from their military service. Genevieve Douglass- Beckham is the widow of Bob Douglass, who died five years ago from non- Hodgkin s lymphoma, a cancer caused by chemical exposure during his military service. His widow, Genevieve, Founder of the Southland Care Center Agent Orange Widows Awareness Coalition, (AOWAC), reaches out to veterans, their survivors, widows and family members. Many have suffered and have died due to exposure to Agent Orange, which was widely used during the war. Pastor Ron, Chaplain of AOWAC, offers spiritual support and counsel, both in person and through web links to his on-line church. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 Page 3 On Thursdays, Pastor Ron leads an in-person Bible study at Southland for the residents spiritual support, encouragement and prayer. Since April, he has been teaching in Psalms at this skilled-nursing facility in Norwalk, California. Pastor Ron reports that the participants (including Ron s mother) are mostly along in years and nearing eternity. They are weakening in strength, but many are strong in the Lord. We should rejoice in our successes and growth on this earth, but it s also important to discern the lessening that leads us to the presence of the Lord. Let me tell you about Grace. She is a lovely Christian lady of 90 years, who resides at Southland. Grace is legally blind, but manages to whiz around in her motorized chair through God s strength. Her ministry at Southland is to visit daily 30 residents and encourage them in the Lord. She has become a new dear friend of Ron s mother Adele. What an inspiration! 4 GOOD NEWS Page 4 BLESSED HANDS The idea for a computer-giving ministry came to us in relation to a special needs group of people, the disabled community. We met Jonathan Merchant at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach after he sustained a spinal cord injury, making him a quadriplegic. Even with rehabilitation therapy, Jonathan had very limited use of his hands, but could access our on-line church through the computer lab. After nine months of rehab at the VA, Jonathan was to venture out into the real world again, with the assistance of a full-time caregiver. Jonathan would lose access to a computer and the internet. So, he would need these items plus adaptive equipment to access Friday Study Ministries, his spiritual support. Many can not afford these extras in life, when their basic needs have become so costly due to their injuries. Jonathan thought our idea for this computer ministry was great. We asked him what to call it and he said Blessed Hands. That was the perfect name! Since then our ministry has received computers, printers and other much needed equipment for Blessed Hands to refurbish as needed and distribute to qualified people in need. We have provided systems to over a dozen people with our computer expert and webmaster, Sandy Stahl as chairperson. Madentec Solutions, a company that develops adaptive equipment and computer programs for people with disabilities, came to our aid and donated a Tracker One system to Blessed Hands for the special needs of Barbara Davenport, one of our recipients. And a men s Bible study group helped raise $800 to complete Barbara s system. Thank You Guys & Madentec! Based in Canada, we list Madentec at as a resource and partner of Blessed Hands Ministry at Barbara and other recipients are active participants in our ministries as prayer team members, weekly sermon & Bible study recipients, visitors to our internet church & much more. Sandy Stahl, Blessed Hands Chairperson, shares this: Ask and God answers. I was praying and asking God for the needs of the ministry. Two days later, Pastor Beckham called with the great news that a company wanted to donate a dozen Pentium III computers. How wonderful, just what we needed, newer systems. Blessed Hands is a ministry that is blessed by donors, recipients, committee members and most of all by God. Thank you, Lord, for continuing to bless this ministry and reminding me to Ask. We accept Pentium computer systems and newer equipment so we can quickly and costeffectively redistribute them to our recipients in need. Currently, we redistribute systems in the Los Angeles/Orange County areas of Southern California. FSM is an outreach to the world-wide mission field, internet users, travelers, military personnel and those who have difficulty attending a traditional church, including those with disabilities and the homebound. The Pastor s Corner God is Love (1 John 4:8) I have a whole library of books, including the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, books on theology, religions, concordances, dictionaries, a number of different Bible translations, and more. In college, I trained under a man I came to love - Dr. O. Cope Budge, who trained under Dr. James Oliver Buswell, a famous theologian. I have Buswell s textbook, A Systematic Theology of the Christian Religion, which has an answer for Everything! Do you want Evidences for the Existence of God? This book has them. Do you want to examine the Doctrine of the Trinity? This book will help you do it. But God wants more than our knowledge He wants our love. Jesus had many opportunities to tell us what God wants, and what He wants is very simple: You shall love the Lord your God with everything you ve got (Matthew 22:37, a quote of Deuteronomy 6:5), and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39, a quote of Leviticus 19:18). He commanded us to love one another (John 13:34-35). And when He prayed to the Father, Jesus did not ask that we have all knowledge He prayed that we all may be one (John 17:21), that the world may know that You (the Father) have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me (John 17:23). How can we please God? Trust in the Lord and receive His love In that way you will please Him, for God is love (1 John 4:8).
