In the back of my car, I have snow boots, a shovel, a blanket, jacket, and a candle in a can. Because you never know. You never know what you might run into.

1 Put Shoes On Your Feet Grains of Sand Howard Jacobs once told me about his first job delivering a neighborhood newspaper (the Breeze?). He was about to go in to second grade, but was afraid that he could not go because he had no shoes. So he worked for money to buy them, so he could be ready for school. In the back of my car, I have snow boots, a shovel, a blanket, jacket, and a candle in a can. Because you never know. You never know what you might run into. What you might need when you never expect it. Paul tells a faith community to put shoes on your feet, to put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6) Because you never know where Christ s good news of peace will need to be proclaimed. Behind the wheel? At work? In school? Be ready, because we don t know. And not knowing is ok, because God goes with. What adventure is God calling us to? This fall, there are many opportunities for formation, for the practice of being ready, and for the joy of learning. Celebrate the Night Sky Week September Mark your calendars! This September we're celebrating the night sky with a week of events held around the region. Amazing speakers are flying in, neighborhoods are setting up star parties, and an all-day seminar will provide information for everyone and, for professionals, CEUs. There is something for everyone! Come join us in Carlton, MN as we celebrate our connection to the stars on the beautiful grounds of Oldenburg House, nestled into our beloved northern landscape and adjoining Jay Cooke State Park. Sky lore historian Mary Stewart Adams, producer of The Storyteller s Night Sky, will wend us into why the stars mean so much to humans, and why our connection with the night sky is irreplaceable. Members of the Arrowhead Astronomical Society will be on board with telescopes to enhance our sky viewing pleasure. Join us, rain or shine! This is a free luncheon where you can come and learn more about this important organization. Yes, it is a fundraiser, too. You will be asked to consider making a contribution. There is no minimum and no maximum gift requested. It will be Safe Haven s job to inspire us to want to give. 9 Landscape Work Has Begun In Our Back Yard St. Andrew s by the Lake Planning Calendar The Bishop s Committee met after our morning Eucharist service on Sunday, August 26 to plan the St. Andrew s church calendar. Marta came with an almost complete calendar, making ours an easy job. Members in attendance plugged in dates of event that they were aware of. We are still waiting for the date of the Share the Love concert, the greening of the church, 75 and better birthday party, etc. The calendar is a flexible document that can be added to or changed depending on new ideas for events. We would welcome your suggestions. Tom Malterer brought forward the need for St. Andrew s to have on hand an Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
