As I sit down to write this article, it is still raining down in Texas and the flood waters are still rising. Our prayers go out to all whose lives are being affected by this massive weather event, including some of you with family and friends in that area. Rev. Michael Gott, Senior Minister of Unity of Houston, gave us a remarkable gift on Facebook. On the Sunday morning right after the storm, he reminded us that our feelings of helplessness are not the truth. Prayer is a profound way of helping as we send energy of love and light across the miles to the hearts of those in the midst of turmoil. Then he gave us a beautiful mini prayer service as he sang and prayed from his living room, since they had cancelled their Sunday services at Unity of Houston that day. As I watched on Monday evening, I was so grateful for the ways technology links us all together. We sometimes forget how connected we are to one another. Maybe that s why it feels so good We are called by a loving God when September comes and we get to greet one another as we start returning from our summer to claim our divinity; to honor adventures. Did you know that the connections we make with one another and God in spiritual each person as God s beloved; community have been scientifically proven to promote healing of body, mind, and spirit? It s true! to grow in spiritual understanding; If you haven t been with us for a while, we would love to welcome you back to a life-enhancing and to transform our world connection with this spiritual community! through service. There are many ways to plug in at Unity Spiritual Life Center of Yakima. You can check them Together, we create a community out in this newsletter. One very practical way of staying connected is to include yourself in our that reflects God s love. directory. We d love to have all our Unity friends included membership not required! But we need you to fill out a slip with your information (or call Chris at the office: ). We only put you in if you let us know of your desire to be included. Michael Wilding will be taking pictures on Sept. 3 & 10 after the service. It s always nice to put faces to names, right? One other way of deepening our connection and getting better acquainted with a few people is to be part of a class or small group. This year we are calling our small group book study Connection Groups. I am so excited about the book we will be sharing this fall: Finding Peace through Spiritual Practice: The Interfaith Amigos Guide to Personal, Social, and Environmental Healing. Who are the Interfaith Amigos? They are a Protestant minister, a Jewish rabbi, and a Sufi (Islamic) imam who came together as an interfaith team after 9/11. In this book they each share spiritual practices from their own traditions that can help all of us find greater peace within, preparing us to find more effective ways of acting for peace in the world. Unity Spiritual Life Center is a There are four ways you can participate in this soul-growing opportunity: community that love is building. Sign up to purchase a book. Loving our connections, Cheryl

10:30 am Here in Yakima, September is such beautiful transition month in nature as we move from summer to fall. There are changes at Unity as well. The slower summer schedule gives way to numerous sign-up sheets and we re off for another fall season, filled with numerous options for connection and growth. This month our focus is on the power of STRENGTH. May we gain strength for each day as we stay connected to the One Presence and Power of God within, as well as to one another. September 3 Labor Day Reflections of Life, Love, and Liberty We are all here on this planet at this particular time and place for a divine purpose. When you have days that make you wonder what that purpose could possibly be, you might ask yourself three questions: What brings me life? How can I bring love into this situation? What am I free to decide right now? Out of the infinite possibilities in every moment, why not choose what helps you to live your unique purpose? Your Higher Self and the world will thank you! September 10 Living from a Deeper Kind of Strength In times of apparent darkness in our lives, how do we find our way? We often look for light from others to guide us. Let us also remember that there is light from within us ready to illumine our way the light of Christ. When you wonder how you can keep on keeping on, call on the divine light of Strength that has been waiting to be ignited within your own being. There is more power within us than we have yet imagined. September 17 A Color for Your Thoughts We talk about words a lot in Unity. Words express the thoughts in our minds, and our third Unity principle reminds us that our thoughts have the power to shape our reality. Positive affirmations help us to put good thoughts together in a conscious way. But do you ever have trouble remembering these affirmations, no matter how beautiful sounding they may be? Why not add a little design and color to the process? We ll have some fun as we play with the idea of putting our thoughts in living color. September 24 Food for the Soul, Strength for the Journey Jesus, the Master Teacher and our Way Shower, spoke to the people of his time with great wisdom and compassion. Some of his most memorable wisdom teachings are found in a section of the New Testament we call The Sermon on the Mount. Several times in these verses, Jesus finds himself reassuring people that God is Good and we live in an incredibly generous universe. When we say Give us our daily bread we find ourselves provided with not only food for our bodies but food for our souls, too. What is it that feeds your soul and gives you strength for your journey? Have you let that become a regular part of your life as regular as the meals you eat?

Special Guest Musician Join us Mailyn Faulkner! Sunday, September 3rd Free Introductory Workshop with Jocey Hallman The Process of Easy Emotional Clearing The Process of Easy Emotional Clearing is a quick and easy way to discover the true source of emotions that appear to control our day to day life. Most of our decisions about life were made before the age of eight and we often do not consciously remember them. A great many of these experiences that we recorded in a negative way are truly innocent experiences that were not meant to harms us. The source of these emotions can be found and resolved in just a short time. When we make changes on the subconscious level they are permanent and allow us to live a natural, healthy and joyful life. Saturday, September 23rd 1:30-3:30pm at Unity To register for this FREE workshop or for more information contact Jocey at 509/ or JoceyHallman@gmail.com INTENTION LIST Please hold the intention for the church for these items: New or like new microwave and stove. Rev. Cheryl is also in need of a new desktop computer (hers is 8 years old)

Keeper of the Light SEPTEMBER AFFIRMATION: I look for the Good. I see the Good. I claim the Good. Good is mine and I share it with the world. World Day of Prayer 2017 echoes the call of our master teachers by proclaiming Peace in the Midst. We hope you are finding ways to pray peace be peace and do peace as we get nearer to World Day of Prayer on September 14. It certainly seems appropriate that Peace is the topic for this years World Day of Prayer. Everything that is difficult or painful is coming up to be healed in you, in our community, in our nation, in the world. Empaths are feeling everything very intensely right now. Feeling it to clear it. Clearing it by allowing LOVE in, starting within ourselves. So let us each pray peace... be peace... and do peace Unity Spiritual Life Center will be collecting your list of names in the weeks before September 14. Members of the Prayer Ministry will be gathering in the sanctuary on Thursday, September 14, from 2 to 4 in the afternoon. We will prayerfully speak aloud the names and ask blessings on each name and then the lists will be sent to Silent Unity where they will be held in prayer for 30 more days. The sanctuary will be open during that time and everyone is invited to join us for the entire time, or any portion thereof. Your presence will be our blessing and celebration. Unity's World Day of Prayer Join the Prayer Partners in the sanctuary on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 2-4 pm Namaste, Sandy Prayer Ministry List the names of your loved ones or those you wish to be held in prayer during our World Day of Prayer. They will be sent to Silent Unity where they are held in prayer for 30 days. My Prayer List

CONNECTION Groups The Spirit Groups are now the Connection Groups! We were excited about training in February to start Spirit Groups. It seemed like a plan for developing connection circles that would do just what we have been saying our mission is: to transform lives through spiritual growth. It turns out some changes were made in the program and it s not going to work out for us. That doesn t mean we can t use the principles Mendhi Audlin shared for creating our own Connection Groups. She gave us five disciplines that make for effective groups - 5 C s: Communion time of centering, acknowledging the presence of the Divine in our midst Connection share food, have fun; each group to plan 1 fun activity outside meeting time Compassion place where we each member of the group: joys and challenges shared in a caring place Community connect with the community beyond our connection group through a service project group choice, USLC or?? Challenge more than just social groups; time of spiritual deepening by engaging in discussion of spiritual content like the book we ll be using this fall, Finding Peace through Spiritual Practice by the Interfaith Amigos. Finally, when the series is complete, we all come together for a potluck all the connection groups connecting with one another in a grand celebration. Sign up to host a group in your home, Co-Hosts are also an option. Once we have several hosts, we ll have signup sheets for each Connection Group. Don t miss out get yourself connected! Orientation for Connection Group Hosts In order for you and your group to have a wonderful experience together, you are asked to attend a Host Orientation Gathering at Unity on Tuesday evening, Sept. 19 from 6:30-8:00. We will, among other things, talk about: An overall outline of the course. Creating a group agreement (and why). The flow of each session. Ways to encourage participation. Inviting ideas for social activities and community service. Light refreshments will be served. Come and support one another in preparing for FUNtastic groups! Sign up for the book: We will be ordering the books on Tuesday, September 9th Approximate cost: $14 Reserve your copy today!
