1 Transfiguration of the Lord Sunday March 3, 2019 l 8: :00 am We Gather in the Presence of the Triune God Gathering Music (8:30) How Bright Appears the Morning Star setting by Josef Friedrich Doppelbauer (11:00) Fanfare for Trombones by Andrew C. Fox Welcome + Announcements Prelude (8:30) Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise setting by Michael Burkhardt (11:00) Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise setting by Kevin McChesney *Call to Worship The Lord Jesus Christ said, Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. *Gathering Hymn Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise red hymnal, #579 We Seek Renewal in God s Presence *Call to Confession The Spirit of the Lord fills the world and knows our every word and deed. Let us open ourselves to the Lord and confess our sins in penitence and faith. *Prayer of Confession Holy God, what a blessing and privilege we share here in this sacred space and among this loving community. But, like Jonah, we sometimes are jealous of what we share here. We know that others are longing and thirsting for what we know and experience. Forgive us our reluctance to open our doors, open our hearts to others; some like us, some not. We repent of our hesitations and unwillingness to witness to those we have considered strangers and even enemies for fear they just might become friends. Amen. Hymns + Songs Lift Up Your Hearts (red hymnal) Bold Print Speak or sing together in unison *Please rise in body or in spirit

2 *Assurance of Pardon The one who calls us to this place calls us to reconciliation through grace. God will not deny a repentant heart or an open spirit. We know that we are forgiven. We ll walk in the new way that is made known to us in God s love. Amen. *The Peace time of greeting The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. *God s People Respond in Song (8:30) Mighty to Save setting by Peggy Bettcher (11:00) We Are Singing for the Lord Is Our Light setting by Mark Burrows The Word of the Lord Gospel Lesson Luke 4:14-30 Bible, pg. 835 The Word of the Lord. 4 Announcements Welcome! We are happy to have you here with us today. If you would like more information about St. Andrew, please indicate your interest on the Connection Card. Join us for a time of fellowship and refreshments after the service. This is a wonderful way to meet the St. Andrew family. Prayer: If you desire a personal time of prayer, we re here to pray with you and for you. Please join a prayer partner at the Prayer Room at the back of the Sanctuary immediately following the worship service. All ages are welcomed in our worship services. Worship materials for children and adults, including large print hymnals, bibles, and bulletins are available on the shelves outside the north sanctuary doors. A T-Coil hearing assist loop is also available for those with this feature on their hearing aids. If needed, infant and toddler care (up to age 2) is provided downstairs in the Nursery. Children s Time, for ages 3 years through Kindergarten, is also downstairs. Prayer Requests may be written on a blue Prayer Request Card and placed in the offering plate. QR Coding for Giving: The QR code in the Sunday bulletin is an electronic code that links to the giving page on our church website. In worship, we respond to God s love with our offering. We hope that people who like technology will use these prompts to connect their gifts to our worship. Connection Cards are one way we can extend welcome and hospitality to our guests while also helping us consider steps we can take in the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ. We ask each person to fill out the card and place it in the offering plate. Members, once your contact information is correct, you only need to write your name. The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given by the Watkins in gratitude for their many blessings. Coming Up in Adult Education On March 10, Rafael Morataya will talk about The Big Table events that St. Andrew will begin hosting March 15 and March 22. Then beginning on April 7, Adult Ed will offer The Art of Neighboring. This class is for everyone regardless of whether your small group is currently reading the book. Finally, during the Thursday Evening Lenten Potlucks, we will be contemplating what it means to be a neighbor as we prepare for the Won t You Be My Neighbor? events coming up the week after Easter. Ash Wednesday Services St. Andrew Session Meetings St. Andrew's Session generally meets at 7:00 pm on the third Thursday of most months. Beginning in April, we will provide Session Highlights from the previous month as a regular column in the Messenger. To look at the minutes from any Session meeting, follow this link: saintandrewic.org/about/session. Per Capita 2019 Every dollar paid directly supports mission by freeing up funds for Mission, Outreach, and Service (MOS) to distribute. The rate for 2019 is $38.

6 Update on MPR Renovation Phase I: The drywall was removed on February 27, and the steel should be finished by March 8. Phase 2: The concrete work on the floor is scheduled to begin March 11. It is a two-step process. First, they strip off the current finish, then they come back to do the leveling. This whole process only takes about one week. After this they will begin installing the new floor. Phase 3: We ve been told multiple times that floor installation means there will be 3-4 weeks until it can be fully used, so this means a couple weeks before Easter is when the MPR will be fully functional. No one will be allowed on the floor during this 3rd phase of the project. We ve also been told that the smell from pouring the floor only last a few hours, but of course we can t predict that exact date yet. Sweet Saturdays Women s Group You are invited to join the Sweet Saturday's Women's small group. The women began meeting this past Saturday, but are very happy to have you join them anytime! They will be meeting each Saturday, through May 11, in room 128 at 8:00 am. The book they are studying is Becoming a Woman of Influence by Carol Kent. Questions? Contact LeAnn Otterbein at leann.otterbein@gmail.com. Concert with the Brazilians! Lenten Potlucks Are Back! Thursday, March 14 7:00 pm Join us for a special evening of music performed by our Brazilian Ministry Immersion participants. These ten talented musicians will share a variety of vocal and instrumental pieces that they first presented in concert at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. Our Thursday Evening Lenten Potlucks begin March 7 at 5:30 pm and will continue each Thursday during Lent. Please bring a dish to share; tableware will be provided. We will spend time in fellowship and will take time for a devotional each week. Questions? Contact Pastor Kyle at kotterbein@saintandrew-ic.org.

7 Children s Musical March 31 About the Musical Mark Burrows' fantastic and inspiring new children's musical, In the Image, features a group of children who have just experienced the story of The Creation. And now they're starting to wonder what it really means to be created in the image of God. Through humorous, earnest exploration, the children discover that being created in the image of God isn't about physical appearance. It's about creativity, faithfulness, responsibility, community, and the ability to find the good in things.
