1 Spirit Song From the Pastor A couple weeks ago, we accidently found a bird nest under the porch deck that we have never seen so close up before. The next day there was a blue colored egg, and two on the next day until the nest was filled with four eggs. We called them blue m & m chocolates. Twelve days after-yes, we have been counting days-we see tiny baby birds in the nest. For us, it was such an awesome scene to praise God for his wonderful creation and the mystery of birth. As we were taking a bunch of pictures and videotaping them, I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to me like, if a spiritless newly born bird can delight me, how much more it would be when one soul is born again in Christ Jesus. Then I remembered, There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10). We, as a church, are here to win souls for Christ and make them disciples of Jesus. In his book entitled Not a Fan, Kyle Idleman points out, The biggest threat to the church today is fans who call themselves Christians but aren t actually interested in following Christ. They want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires anything from them. What is the difference between a fan and a disciple? If you have ever been to an ocean beach and watched the surfers, you might have noticed that there are two kinds of surfers. The first kind of surfer is the kind of people stay on the beach although they are dressed for the water and have their boards. What they are doing is usually talking among themselves and watching the waves break on the shore. They re not at the beach to surf, but to get a tan, to show off their fancy suits and boards, and to talk about the big waves they have caught in the past. The other kind of surfers aren t on the beach. They re out in the water way out in the water. They re sitting on their boards eagerly watching and waiting. When they see a big wave coming, they flop down on their boards and start paddling faster and faster, until the energy of the wave catches them. Then they jump to their feet for the ride of their lives. These two kinds of surfers are much like the two kinds of people you normally find in churches. The first kind, like the surfers on the beach, are fans (or church members). The other kind, like the surfers riding the waves, are disciples. Are you a fan or a disciple of Jesus Christ? If you want to move from a fan to a disciple, why don t you make time everyday for silence with God, that means putting away all distractions for uninterrupted time soaking up God s love and listening for God s direction in your lives. June is a month of tremendous growth for plants, and may you experience the warmth of God s light on your face and in your hearts! Peace, Love, and Blessings, Rev. Tae Sung Kang
2 A blessing is a circle of light drawn around a person to protect, heal and strengthen. John O Donohue Dear CCUMC, The Youth group and Mission team from our church have been blessed over and over again by this wonderful congregation of loving people, while you drew circles of light around us to support our mission efforts. During our intense barrage of fundraising for our mission trip to Rockaway, Long Island, New York to help people stranded in substandard living conditions left over from Hurricane/ Superstorm Sandy, YOU told us you care. We leave August 3 rd Sunday right after church in 3 cars packed to the roof with missionaries and supplies to help a proud and independent family or two get out of the mess the storm, FEMA and insurance companies left behind, 19 months ago. Next Step Ministry has completed 23 restoration jobs to date so people can LIVE again. We will be extending the love of Jesus to persons who have been struggling to find the love of God in their daily walk. We will help one or two more! We return August 9, Saturday late afternoon, changed forever by God s grace. We ask for your continued prayers to change lives. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! We love you CCUMC!
