4 3 On behalf of the Second Baptist Church of Peoria I'd like to welcome everyone here today for the Area III 2014 Discipleship Summit as Dwight Stinnett leads us on "The Worship Journey." Jim Vincent, Host Pastor It has been our pleasure to serve you on the Area III Program Board this year. We wish to thank all those churches who support the Great Rivers Region and our Area through your prayers and your financial support. The money provided to Area III has enabled us to sponsor this discipleship event, extend scholarships to several people, and give each church who participates today a copy of Townley's book. Mark Keyser, Sr. Pastor, Ridgeview Baptist Church, Danville IL Moderator, Area III ABC GRR Welcome to Discipleship Summit 2014! We also welcome Dwight Stinnett as our presenter today. He recommended Cathy Townley's book, Missional Worship, as consider the Christian's response to worship and discipleship. How are the two connected? Is there more than becoming disciplined to be an active and regular participant in worship service. But, that is not discipleship, but personal choice and follow through. What has discipleship got to do with worship? Let's consider our journeys as individual Christians and as part of a body of believers, both as a local church and as part of the greater church of Jesus Christ. D. Richard Ricks GRR Associate Minister Areas I and III

12 11 AMERICAN BAPTIST WOMEN S MINISTRIES ANNUAL REPORT AREA III 2014 A Time to Serve This is our program theme for What a great focus for our women in AB Women s Ministries. In June, we joined other women of the Great Rivers Region for our annual conference at Raymond, IL located in the Magnuson Grand Hotel and Conference Center. These weekends provide many opportunities for fellowship, learning, spiritual growth and inspiration. In September AB Women s Ministries of Area III held our fall rally. It was hosted by the women at First Baptist of East Peoria. The program A Time to Serve with Compassion and Love invite to speak was Larry and Becky Stanton, newly endorsed missionaries to Liberia. We had 45 in attendance. Our Spring Rally will be Saturday April 12th at First Baptist Church of Bloomington. Our program will be information on our special project Detroit Friendship House, plans for Women s Conference, and a speaker on how to understand how you have been shaped by God for the ministry to which you ve been called and sent out to the world. Our Region Project this year is Detroit Friendship House in Hamtramck, Michigan. We have set our goal for $15,000. We hope to help them fulfill the need for build a community room that can be converted into two classrooms. We continue to financially and prayerfully support of National AB Women s Ministries, Sallie Peck Memorial Student Aid Fund, Love Gift, White Cross and the Women and Girls Mission Fund. All women in our American Baptist Churches are invited to participate in American Baptist Women s Ministries. Each woman is encouraged to participate according to her own needs, interest, and gifts as led by the spirit of God.
13 12 Joan Leitzen President of AREA III American Baptist Men - Area III ABC/GRR American Baptist Men in the Great Rivers Region continue to serve their home congregations and the region at large. AB Men were called to help out following a very destructive day of tornadoes on 17 November 2013, with teams attempting to help in Washington, IL, and working full-tilt in Diamond and Gifford, IL. These sites consumed many hours of hard work and honest sweat, resulting in clean-ups that allowed people full access to their homes and communities. Around the region, remember to join your American Baptist Men brothers for weekend breakfasts. At these informal meetings, you will hear about the need for more men to help out seniors and the disabled in local churches, more opportunities to engage younger men and boys in ministries to the community, and better fellowship among men who may have felt left out until now. It is a badly kept secret that our work teams, both at home and on disaster relief sites, include some women, as well. Our sisters also want to help out when things have been torn up and people uprooted by storms and other disasters. American Baptist Men faithfully offer and use their skills and compassion to keep Great Rivers Region churches humming along, despite the natural or man-made challenges of the day. Rev. Jon A. Dainty, Sr. ABMen-GRR Vice President, Area III
