Notices for week commencing 31 March 2019 Minister: Rev Sue Edwards Senior Steward: Sheila Files Loving God, inspire us to look for where you are working and to join with you among those in need of food and fresh water, those who are homeless, those who are lonely or far from home, and those with depression. Each week we look at the encounters different people had with Jesus in Luke s Gospel and the impact it had on their lives. So far we ve looked at Zacchaeus, the Rich Young Ruler and the Woman with a Haemorrhage. Today it s the turn of The Centurion. There are booklets available to go with the series which contain daily Bible readings and prayers for you to use at home. Joyce Ellis (73340)

Foodbank The Foodbank stock is still very depleted this week and in particular we need UHT fruit juice, UHT milk (not skimmed), jam (not home made), tinned fruit and cereal. Can you help, please? Last year we helped 6,000 people, including almost 2,000 children. We also gave 25 tonnes of food to children as part of our Holiday Lunchpack for kids scheme. We could only help this many people who are in need because people like you give food, time and money. Cereal Just drop a tin or two into the plastic box in the church welcome area. It s very much appreciated. Thank you In recognition of the 10th anniversary of the North Lakes Foodbank we've added extra branding to the van! Roy Ellis (73340)

Cyclone Idai has swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, leaving behind a trail of destruction, killing hundreds of people and affecting an estimated 2.6 million people. Houses, roads and bridges have been ripped apart and agricultural land is completely submerged. More than 480 people are confirmed dead and 400,000 have lost their homes. The full scale of the disaster is still unfolding as search and rescue operations continue and more heavy rain is predicted. The UN predicts that this may become one of the worst weather-related disasters on record in the southern hemisphere. DEC members are working closely with national partners to support the relief effort, delivering emergency shelter kits, food such as pulses and maize flour, water purification tablets and urgent health assistance. People need help now. The second of our retiring collections in aid of the people affected by Cyclone Idai is after today s service. Please gift aid if you are able to. The Christian Aid Malawi country manager, Pansi Katenga, says the scale of devastation is enormous. Although the rains have stopped for now, they're forecast to begin again soon, and we need to help people who are most vulnerable before the situation gets worse, she says. The most at risk are children under five, lactating mothers and pregnant women, who need to keep up their nutrition. As a mother myself, I feel extremely sad to see women doing all they can to protect their children.

Zimbabwe Appeal in Keswick My name is Rita Ruwata Muchenje. I m a member of Kings Church and originally from Zimbabwe. Recently my country and Mozambique and Malawi were hit by a deadly cyclone which left a lot of of people dead and many displaced and homeless. It's believed some were washed away by the floods downstream into Mozambique. Aid agencies are still searching for bodies and rescuing desperate survivors who were left with absolutely nothing. The Zimbabwean Embassy has asked members of the Zimbabwean community in the UK to mobilise resources to help the victims. I made an appeal and my church are helping me with the programme. We re hoping to put together the urgently required items and get them to be sent to the cyclone victims as soon as possible. If you can help in any way, I thank you and God bless you. 1. Medical supplies First Aid items & non prescription medicines 2. Female sanitary wares 3. Dust & surgical masks & gloves 4. Plastic freezer bags 5. Water treatment chemicals 6. Basic tools - hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, crowbar 7. Plastic buckets & brooms 8. Mosquito nets 9. Disinfectants & detergents 10. Dental hygiene items toothbrushes & toothpaste 11. Small bottles of bath essentials 12. Diapers (nappies) 13. New retail sealed underwear & socks 15. Flat shoes, (tennis) and flip flops No high heels, pumps, boots, court shoes 16. Clothes - dresses, trousers & shirts as well as jumpers 17. Generators Donations can be dropped off 9am-5pm weekdays at Rawnsley. Keswick Ministries are storing items until they re shipped. We ve a very short window of opportunity to do this and items will have to be packed ready for early April. If anyone has cardboard boxes or can get them from shops, etc. please drop these off at Rawnsley too If you d like to help sort or pack the items for shipment, please get in touch via the Kings Church office by (office@kingschurchkeswick.net), text ( ), or phone call (72200 leave a message if I m not in).

TLC (Thursday Lunch Club) Sincere thanks to everyone who supported the first TLC on Thursday. Whatever your involvement, it was only possible as a team effort and we're really grateful. The atmosphere was lovely and it's safe to say it was a huge success. Our mission now is to see it develop further and grow more so all the Keswick community know that KMC is the place to be. Sally Lunson (71016) & Helen North (78025) Church Photo Book During the coming months I ll be updating the Church Photographic Album. I d like to obtain new photos of all church members and will soon be arranging to take your photo at church. Thanks for your help. Brian Moffat (80427) Coffee Morning : Saturday 13 April 10am-12.30pm Our next Coffee Morning is on Saturday, 13 April and will be in aid of the Leprosy Mission s Heal Nepal appeal. We heard about this project at the beginning of March during our Leprosy Mission Sunday special service. We d very much appreciate any baking or raffle prizes you can donate for this as well as coming along on the morning to enjoy a cuppa and a chat. And don t forget all donations raised will be matched through UK Aid! Helen Dalzell (71495)

Cumbrian Church Leaders Lenten Walk During Lent the Bishop of Carlisle, Bishop James, is walking round the Diocese visiting all the county s Mission Communities, accompanied for part of the way by Richard Teal (our Cumbria Methodist Chair), Sarah Moore (URC Cumbria Area President) and Emma Ineson (new Bishop of Penrith). Everyone is welcome and it s also a chance for us all to socialise and enjoy each other s company from different churches in the town. All are welcome for prayers at Underskiddaw and/or to take part in the short walk into Keswick and/or the supper in Keswick. No need to book just turn up!
