2 OPENING PRAYER Some of us, Lord, may have come into your house, with minds that are distracted, tempers that are ruffled, and emotions that are distraught. Send your Spirit to give us peace, refocus our minds, and bathe us in your grace. PRAYER OF CONFESSION We confess, Lord of all, who knows all things and who knows us better than we know ourselves, that when we confess sins of thought, word, and deeds, we often do not fully acknowledge the sins of thought those attitudes, those lusts, those resentments, those hypocrisies that we hide from others and even from ourselves but we cannot hide from you. Pardon us, we pray, and heal our thought life through Jesus Christ our Lord. For someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol, we pray to the Lord. For someone who is caught in a web of darkness and despair, we pray to the Lord. For someone who is entangled in a toxic relationship, we pray to the Lord. For someone who is trapped in a web of unhappy circumstances, we pray to the Lord. For someone who is shackled by compulsive behaviors, we pray to the Lord. For someone who is submerged in poverty, we pray to the Lord. For someone who finds it difficult to make friends, we pray to the Lord. 5 ANNOUNCEMENTS AND MEETINGS We welcome who will lead us in worship today. Reverend Smith is the Senior Care Pastor/Senior Group Director/Associate Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Maryland. She studied at Princeton Theological Seminary s School of Vocation and Missions in the Pastoral Institute, has a certificate in Theology and Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, a Leadership Certificate from Regent University through Project Bridges, a Leadership Certificate from T.D. Jakes Pastors and Leaders Conference, a certificate in Project Development, a Master of Social Work Degree in Policy and Administration from Catholic University of America, and a Bachelor s Degree from Hampton (Institute) University. Reverend Smith is a licensed and ordained preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ Per Capita is $38.75 The Board of Elders meets on the second Tuesday of every month. The Board of Deacons will meet on February 26 at 9:30 am in Room 206. In March, the Board of Deacons will resume meeting on the second Sunday of each month at 9:45 am, in Room 206. The Worship Committee will meet on February 26, immediately following worship. The Community Biblical Dialogue holds explorations of spiritual disciplines every second Saturday of the month from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. in the Library. This year's discussion will be on the Letters of Paul. We hope to see you there. Bring a friend. The children s Church Teachers meet every first Sunday in the Church Library immediately following Sunday service. Bible study class for adults meets Sunday mornings, 9:30 10:55 am, in the church library (Room 203). Sunday school for students ages 3-15, meets on 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays from 11:15am to 12:45pm. 7 NORTHMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH MINISTRY DIVISIONS The Session of Northminster Presbyterian Church is organized into four ministry divisions: The Administrative Division oversees the Budget, Finance and Fund Raising activities of the Church. In addition, this Division is responsible for nominating new officers (Elders and Deacons) and coordinating Trustee and Deacon Activities. The Administrative Division meets on the first Sunday of the month after church. The Communication Division coordinates Northminster s Worship & Music, Christian Education, Mission, and Social Witness activities. The Communication Division meets on the second Sunday of the month after church. The Stewardship Division directs the Stewardship activities of the Church and is responsible for Personnel matters. The Division meets after church on the third Sunday of each month. The New and Current Membership Division oversees Northminster s Fellowship and Evangelism activities and coordinates the continuing nurture of our members. The Membership Division meets on the fourth Sunday of each month after church. All ministry Division meetings are open (unless otherwise stated) and we want to hear from you.
