2 Statement of Communion Practice In obedience to God s Word, we celebrate the Lord s Supper frequently. Unlike Baptism, this Sacrament is to be received again and again for the strengthening of our faith. Also in obedience to God s Word, we practice close communion. Our faith is not exclusive, but God says that we should have unity in faith (which communion expresses). For this reason, guests are kindly asked to speak to Pastor Dahling before the service. As we have done in past summers, we will take a few moments to review Luther s Small Catechism. Today we look at Petitions 6-7 and the Conclusion of the Lord s Prayer. Please turn to pages in your Lutheran Service Book when directed to do so. We thank Sandy Blomenberg for sharing her musical gifts with us this morning. She is filling in for Jody Paschal as organist. May the Lord continue to bless and guide her. We send best wishes and God s richest blessings to all of our members who are celebrating birthdays this week Ben Miller, Randy Moellering, Grace Buuck, Sean Sielschott, Lukas Bobay, Jordan Buuck, Kevin Conrad, and Logan Linnemeier. We rejoice with Al & Shirley Hormann who will celebrate their 58 th wedding anniversary on Monday, July 21. Les & Karen Conrad, Marv & Shirley Drier, Chad & Jill Baumann, Zach & Heather Stoppenhagen, Linda Keuneke & Paul Knott, and Aaron & Sarah Rhymer are celebrating wedding anniversaries this week as well. May our loving Father continue to bless them, remaining at the center of their homes, guiding them through life s joys and challenges. We remember in our prayers Sara (Werling) Ogren who is on a mission trip to the Philippines. May the Lord protect her and bless this medical mission trip. We remember those who are presently serving our country Jason Putteet, Alan Bergdall, Mike Brandt, Dean Brandt, Derek Schultz, Josh Stoppenhagen, Jacob Stoppenhagen, Sam Conrad (South Korea), Jeremy Nabity (Christine Bultemeier s nephew) who is in Qatar, and Chad Hall (Doris Conrad s son-in-law). May the Lord protect and guide them in their missions. May the Great Physician give peace, good health and strength to all who are in need of His healing hand. We especially remember Scott Gehres, Phyllis Everett, Nyjah Moellering (Veronica s son) who is at Payton Manning Children s Hospital at St. Vincent s in Indianapolis, Mason Krueckeberg (Dave Krueckeberg s grandson & Todd & Cindy s nephew who is in the NICU at a Dayton hospital), Rachel Kinninger (Sara Rhymer s niece), Kelly Baumann (Sam & Judy Baumann s daughter-in-law), Rev. Timothy Carr (Rev. Otto Brillinger s son-in-law), Nora Rauner (Michelle Scheumann s mother), Cathy Terhune (Sherril Bradtmueller s daughter), Maddox Franz, and Leo Feasel. They have been placed in church by their parents, Jim & Ruth Heckman. May the Lord continue to bless this family. Flowers have also been placed in church to the glory of God and in honor of Joe & Lin Gorman s grandchildren Colby & Dylan Koldyke, Callen Gorman, and Julia & Miles Overhiser. Board of Stewardship s Food for Thought Jesus tells us, the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). We are Jesus arms and legs to embrace lost and hurting people. We re His mouthpiece to speak God s Law, but above all His Gospel and His peace. His love is completed in us and through us (1 John 4:12). When God called us in faith in Him, He also equipped us for His call to service. We re never to weary in doing well (Galatians 6:9), although we often feel that we are too tired, impatient, or not capable. Through the prompting of the Holy Spirit, we pick ourselves up and serve those Jesus wants us to serve and witness to those to whom Jesus wants us to witness. We do it all in the name of Jesus. Help the Board of Outreach help the Adams County Women s Shelter. It s Christmas in July! The Board is collecting women s and children s socks and underwear as well as gently used clothing. Other needs include over-the-counter medications and new hygiene products. There is a green tote in the Gathering Area for you to place your donation. 6 The Readings God s Faithful People Isaiah 44:6-8 The faithful believe in the one true God Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god. Who is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and set it before me, since I appointed an ancient people. Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen. Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it? And you are my witnesses! Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock; I know not any. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Romans 8:18-27 The faithful have the Spirit intercede for them For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. The Alleluia & Verse can be found on page 190. P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the thirteenth chapter. C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord. (to be sung) Matthew 13:24-30, The faithful enter heaven He put another parable before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds? He said to them, An enemy has done this. So the servants said to him, Then do you want us to go and gather them? But he said, No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn. Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field. He answered, The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ. (to be sung) 6

7 973 Thy Word Is a Lamp Refrain: Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet And a light unto my path. 1 When I feel afraid, think I ve lost my way, Still You re there right beside me. And nothing will I fear as long as You are near. Please be near me to the end. Refrain 2 I will not forget Your love for me, and yet My heart forever is wandering. Jesus, be my guide and hold me to Your side; And I will love You to the end. Refrain 1984 Meadowgreen Music Company; admin. EMI. Used by permission: LSB Hymn License.NET. No
