It involves knowing your thoughts and feelings, how they came about, and how they influence your behaviour. It is about understanding your needs, desires, motivations, beliefs, views and value. The tool for self enlightenment is introspection, a looking within that focuses our attention on our thoughts, how they arise and disappear. This is best done in a quiet environment where you have time to watch and analyze your own thoughts. A busy life does not exclude this possibility of introspection or self reflection but it does make it less likely that you will do so. Through self enlightenment, we are in a better position to understand the outer physical universe as well as the inner metaphysical world within us, and to see how our mind becomes the interface for both experiences. We are anticipating another great term with high expectations from all the students. Furthermore, the coming month is full of festivals. And, the most important one of our culture and tradition is Diwali which marks the victory of good over evil and is celebrated with the lighting of lamps. The portrayal of Lord Rama epitomizes dutifulness and commitment. It is an opportunity to bring good values into our lives and reminds us to be hopeful, visionary, joyful and thankful for everything in our lives. Human beings can only attain happiness if: they have spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing; if fear and doubt are dispelled from their minds; and if they are connected with God. Just as we light candles and fireworks during Diwali, to bring light and happiness to our hearts, we should remember that in the same way we should bring light of knowledge to our minds. It removes the darkness of ignorance and helps us to see God s light (presence) in everyone and everything around us. Students, Lets learn to attain full inner illumination in our minds. We need to avoid excess use of crackers and thereby reduce noise pollution as it causes serious environmental hazards particularly or public places. There is a need to adhere to & learn from these characters teaching values having all-time-relevance. Hope you ll imbibe all the qualities of these characters in you. All the best. Tips for Parents to ensure your Child s Safety this Diwali 1.Instead of electric illumination, one should opt for traditional lightening of earthen lamps or diyas. 2.This Diwali, go green and get organic gifts for your friends and family. 3.Opt for eco-friendly crackers. Eco-friendly crackers are made up of recycled paper and the sound produced by these crackers is within defined limits. 4.Instead of individual celebrations, we must prefer community celebrations at a common place. This will ensure reduced cost of celebration and minimal wastage of resources, as compared to individual celebration. 5.Opt for fresh flowers and foliage to decorate the house instead of PVC. 6.Sweets and Delicacies: If you are getting sweets from outside, be careful and buy only from trustworthy shops. Do not buy them from random shops as this could cause harm to your family. 7.Never allow your kids to play with fireworks unattended. Crackers, candles, matchsticks are dangerous and can harm your child. 8. Supervise children while they light fireworks. Kids should be allowed to light crackers under adult supervision only. 9.Make them light fireworks outside the house. 10. Have them hold sparklers away from the body. 11.Ensure proper clothing for your kids. Make sure they are wearing closed footwear and closefitting clothes of thick material instead of loose garments while lighting fireworks. 12. Keep a water bucket and burn ointment or aloevera gel handy. 13.Check the area before igniting fireworks to ensure that no inflammable materials are near. 14.Take all the precautionary measures to avoid an unwanted situation.

3 DIWALI The Festival of Lights A time for celebration, a time for victory of good over evil, a time when the world sees the example of the power of good. Let us continue the same real spirit. Diwali is celebrated on a nation-wide scale on Amavasya - the 15th day of the dark fortnight of the Hindu month of Ashwin, (October/November) every year. It symbolizes that age-old culture of India which teaches to vanquish ignorance that subdues humanity and to drive away darkness that engulfs the light of knowledge. Diwali, the festival of lights even to-day in this modern world projects the rich and glorious past of India. Beyond preparations, decorations, festivities,sharing loving moments with family and friends, prayers and lights, Diwali is a symbolic marker of a different kind of world, somehow a recharging mechanism for Indians and for each of us searching enlightenment or craving for what we may call "the light at the end of the tunnel". Diwali is an astonishing invitation to see life in a fresh light. It is not the light of the candle or the light of the firecracker that we cherish. But the meaning we see in light. One may say The Light is called "God". Others may design it with the name "The Universe". Or you may think you are the light. The name does not really matter after all. The essence is the same: "A candle burns out. A firework is a momentary visual experience. 4 CURRENT TOPICS BRICS is an association of the five fastest emerging nations of the world, namely, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The term was coined by an economist Jim O Neil. Focusing on the theme of Stronger Partnership for a Brighter future, leaders at the BRICS Summit 2017 have issued a joint statement outlining the agenda for this year as well as points the nations agreed to work upon. These include combating terrorism, enhancing trade, developing oceans and tourism cooperation etc. Documents inked to boost commercial ties among BRICS nations Four documents, including the one on economic and trade cooperation, were signed by the BRICS countries with an aim to deepen commercial ties among the members. Apart from the action agenda on economic and trade cooperation, the three other documents signed were action plan for innovation cooperation, strategic framework of BRICS customs cooperation and Memorandum of Understanding between the BRICS Business Council and the New Development Bank on strategic Cooperation. The 9 th BRICS summit in Xiamen ended with the heads of five member states discussing several issues such as terrorism, trade, and cooperation. 5 Sardar Sarovar Dam PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sardar Sarovar Dam on his 67th birthday. This is the third highest concrete dam in India. The foundation stone was laid by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on April 5, The 1.2-km-long dam, which is 163 m deep has till date produced 4,141 crore units of electricity. Officials say the power generated from the dam would be shared among three states -- M.P, Maharashtra and Gujarat in the ratio 27:57:16. Activists have been long demanding that the filling of the reservoir with water be stopped immediately and the dam's gates remain open so as to reduce the water level. The Narmada Bachao Andolan group claims that 40,000 families in 192 villages in Madhya Pradesh would be displaced when the reservoir is filled to its optimum capacity. The best solution to it is setting up a timetable. Timetable can help: Eliminate confusion as clear action plan emerges. Feel organized and in command. Set targets as milestones to be crossed. 9 Enrich your life FOREST MAN JADAV MOLAI PAYENG He was 16 when a flood hit Assam and Payeng observed that flow of migratory birds was gradually declining to the forest and wetlands near his home and snakes were dying in large numbers. His village elders told him that with the decline in forest cover animals lost their homes and died. He alerted the forest department but they laughed on him and told him to plant trees if he is so concerned. He located a small island on the banks of river Brahmaputra and began to plant the saplings. He visited the island and planted a few saplings every day for 30 years. Watering the growing area of plants posed a problem as the area proved to be vast for one man. So he built a bamboo platform on top of each sapling and placed earthen pots with small holes in them. The water would gradually drip and water the plants below throughout the week. He looked after the plants and continued to plant more trees. Presently he lives in a small hut and sells milk to earn his livelihood. That forest ( Molai forest named after him) is now home to Bengal Tigers, Indian Rhinoceros and over 100 deer and several varieties of birds and animals. Lesson learnt : Where there is a will, there is a way. Global Warming Increase in average global temperature is termed as global warming. And it s not a myth, hoax or conspiracy theory to scare people off. 9 out of 10 scientists believe that if it is not kept in check, the end of world is near. The main reason behind global warming is increase in the amount of CO 2 which in-turn can be traced back to ever increasing human population and their demands. Global warming is the main reason behind change in weather pattern, extinction of animals, occurrence of natural disasters, rise in sea level. Global warming is happening and we are not left with enough time to go on denying the fact. Instead we should start getting responsible for our actions. It s us, who are going to be affected.
