1 Motley Free Methodist Church, 33 Wellwood Street E, Motley, MN Sept Pastor Jim Johnson: A Few Words from Pastor Jim: Psalm 112: 1-2 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on the earth. The generation of the upright will be blessed. Does it seem like it should be September already? Wow, the children are headed back to schools and/or their home school studies. Our college students are headed back there too. September also marks a time when we (MFMC) will transition from AWANA to our new Kids Club, with a new name and a new look and a new time. Last month s newsletter has more information about this new adventure, but you should be aware of this much, at least. On September 14 th from 6-7 pm we will be registering students again for our new year. Then on Wednesday September 21 st we will be under way from 4-5:30 each Wednesday with our kids. Talk to Val Johnson about any other questions you may have. When you read the BOA minutes in this newsletter you will also see some guidelines about the age of our youth group. Please allow me to share here too the parameters for our youth group again. Youth group will be open for kids beginning the summer after 6 th grade and will end the summer after graduation OR at age 19 whichever comes first. We feel this is a very important age and we are very blessed to have a large and healthy youth group and blessed leaders. One of the challenges we do want to address is the fact that when a person graduates and is still here in the community and may not be gone to college or the armed services or be here working or something else; what can we provide for the year olds? We want to be able to allow this age group to get together and learn and grow and fellowship too. If anyone is interested in starting something for and leading that age group in a bible study or something like that, please talk to Richard or myself about this. We (BOA) also want to inform you of the pending sale of the Morey house. We are working on that sale right now and hope to have it completed in the near future. We praise God for the Morey family who gifted the house to us and we praise God that we can, in turn, be a blessing to another family. Over the course of the last 3-4 years the topic of having a Christian school has come up several times. Our BOA has a stated goal again this year to continue to research and investigate this possibility. The community of Backus (7 church cooperative) is starting a Christian school this next week. They have been working on this for 3 years. I feel like a Christian school is a huge opportunity and blessing for every community. Please be in prayer with us about this. We want to be obedient to God about this, and if He shows us this is His will, we want to push forward with this idea/adventure/ministry. Do you like to minister to the elderly? Each September we (MFMC) conduct church services for the folks at the Staples Care Center. If you would like to help or be part of that fun ministry, please let Richard know ASAP. Even if you were helping with that, you would be able to be back to be a part of our second service if you wanted to. Thank you to you all for being a part of this congregation/ministry. God has blessed us to be sure and we want to be faithful to Him in everything He calls us to. May we not grow weary in doing good, for we shall reap if we feint not. What s Happening in the Women s Ministry Kitchen? August was an excellent month for activities and weather. We had the privilege again of participating in the C.A.R.E. Back to School Fair. Our church put together 17 bags of supplies for 3rd graders, (we needed 15), and they all went! We also had a great turn out of volunteers from our church that helped out and it was so greatly appreciated. We served over 100 children and their families. There were smiles all around and the excitement was high. Thank you all who helped with supplies and/or volunteering! Brewing on the front burners... We have 2 great events coming up here fast in September for you ladies to take advantage of. The Beth Moore Simulcast is Saturday, September 17th from 9:15-4:15pm. This promises to be a good day. Being encouraged by Beth as she brings God's message and fellowshipping with the ladies and having lunch too! There are signup sheets on the back table and invitation cards for you to hand out as well. Also, on Friday, September 23rd from 6-9pm there is a Revive our Hearts "Cry Out" simulcast centered around prayer and seeking the face of God. This will also be a powerful event to strengthen your prayer life and fellowship with ladies. Please take advantage of these events and/or the other events that are posted on the Women's Ministry board outside the fellowship hall. You will be blessed! Simmering on the back burners... October will be here before you know it and it is Pastor Appreciation Month. Linda Beebe is heading this up and there will be more information on this. You can speak with her if you have any questions. Also, we plan on doing a "Fellowship Potluck" in October just for fun so we can have a chance to fellowship as a church family. We will inform you of the date as soon as we nail one down. Thank you again for all that you do for the body of Christ. We need ALL of us to make this ministry/church work. Our next Women's Meeting will be September 10th at 10am. I would love to see you there. And as always, if you have any questions, concerns, ideas... I would love to chat with you! 5 Board of Administration Meeting Minutes: Present: Pastor Jim, Pastor Richard, Patric, Craig, Linda, Charlie, Kathy, Traci Guests: Val and Wayne Johnson Devotional/Prayer: Reading from Luke 10 The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few The harvest is great for all of us especially for our young people. Please be in prayer for the children and youth as we have a great responsibility to bring them closer to Christ. Verse 17: 70 returned with joy: Lord, even the demons listen in your name. The enemy is very real, but Jesus commissioned his people with power and authority. God has given the church authority over the enemy. We can rejoice because our names are written in heaven. Old Business: Reviewed July 18, 2016 Secretary Minutes. Craig motioned to accept the Secretary Report, and Patric seconded the motion. No discussion, all agreed, motion carried. Reviewed July 18, 2016 Treasurer Report. Linda reported beginning balance in checking account was $28, with year to date offerings of $165, and Pass Through Monies of $ for a total of $217, Year to date expenses of $182, leaving a balance in checking as of July 31, 2016, of $34, Savings Account balance is $5, Building Loan Balance is approximately $41, and YTD Additional Building Offerings is $6, Charlie motioned to accept Treasurer s Report and Traci seconded the motion. No discussion, all agreed, motion carried. Thank You Letters The board reviewed thank you letters from children attending camp and a thank you card from a home owner who was helped out financially with a roofing project. Morey House The sale is moving forward. The bank has accepted the purchase agreement. The house will be appraised next week. We are hoping to meet with the appraisal company sometime in September. Tom and Sherry Cahill They were overcome with joy for the financial gift of $5, They still have a long way to go. We will consider giving monthly gifts in the future. Kids Club Val gave us the following update: She is currently working on artwork with Kripa Reese. She is also working on a handbook/registration. Registration night will be held on September 14 th from 6 to 7 pm. Parents will be attending an informative meeting while kids will go off with volunteers. Someone will be available at the schools Open House with registration forms. Details are forthcoming for the busses. A bus number has not yet been provided, but there will be bussing from Staples/Motley schools to church. There is no bussing for Pillager students at this time. Club will officially start on September 21 st with the times being from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. A light supper will be provided. The first few meals are being pre-planned, but we are asking for volunteers to provide meals/ingredients. Youth Group Update: - Craig stated that we average around 30 kids per night. With 35 kids in attendance for the lock-in. Richard asked about our current policy on permission slips, do we need them for every outing or for just the events? It was determined that he is going to check with other churches and our insurance company on this requirement. There was also discussion on the age requirements for youth group. The board agreed on the following new age policy: Youth group will be open for students beginning the summer after they finish sixth grade and will end the summer after graduation OR at age 19, whichever comes first. Kathy motioned to accept this new age policy and Charlie seconded the motion. No discussion, all agreed, motion carried. New Business: Grow Event Scheduled for August 27 th at the Rose s Residence. A smaller crowd is expected this year, with less than ten people attending from Motley Free Methodist Church. Video Camera Update The bid from Midwest Security is due by Friday, July 19 th. NJPA connected us with another contractor (Tyco Integrated Security) and they will be stopping by soon as well. Charlie will provide us with three separate bids by our next board meeting. Fund Raising There was an inquiry as to whether a jewelry party could be held here at the church with donations/proceeds going towards the Judd Family. Pastor Jim said he would not participate in the conversation due to a conflict of interest. The board agreed that the church could be used as a site for the party to be held because the funds were not being used as operating expense. Three Year Survey Craig will collect the envelopes from both services and seal them. We will find out if they need to be mailed in or given to the Superintendant when he is here for the Grow Event. Other: New 2015 Book of Discipline Several new books were handed out. Board members should be aware of policies and changes. Calendars At.88 each, these are a great outreach for members to pass out to our community. However, our Outreach Budget is almost maxed out for the year. Welcoming Board We are looking at a welcoming board/table for announcements, volunteer information, and greetings for new church attendees. Can we have something that can be set up in the center of our foyer during Sunday Services? For now we can use the table to the left up the first sanctuary door. We will research Welcome Centers to see what is available and we can look at having something custombuilt by our own members. October Events We are considering having a Badge Sunday honoring our local Officers, Firemen/woman, etc. We could pray for them and thank them for their services. The Women s Group would like to hold a fellowship dinner/potluck for them afterwards. Closed with prayer.
