2 I came across the humorous story of a cement worker forming the concrete for a sidewalk. As the man was working a lady who lived in the house nearby came out to talk and admire his work, while waiting for her children to come home from school. While the worker was smoothing out finishing touches on the wet surface, knowing the lady was waiting for her children to come home from school, the man proclaimed how much he loved and valued children. The mother was impressed, but just then the bell rang at the school nearby. Children came out of the school and went every which way, some running toward and then across the newly formed cement. The concrete worker started shaking his fist and cursing. Startled, the mother said, But I thought you loved children? To which the man retorted, I do love them in the abstract but not in the concrete! With this story in mind I continue to place before us the goal of EACH ONE REACH ONE for Christ. Continue to pray for those who need the Lord and pray for God s help to reach people for Jesus. It starts with prayer, but it continues with building bridges of love to those who need the Lord at work, in our neighborhood, etc. As in the above story let us love not just in the abstract, but in the concrete! Mid-Ohio District Lay Servant Training February 16, :30a - Trinity UMC (75 East High St. * Mt. Gilead) Equipping laity to realize and respond to their call to ministry. Lay Servant Ministries is the United Methodist system for lay leadership development. It is the most significant lay leadership development program available within the United Methodist connection. Through this system of equipping and empowering, lay servants have the opportunity to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ who then go and make other disciples. Remember that discipleship is all about relationships. It is essential to see all the people as you seek to make disciples for the transformation of the world. To better remember and understand the core process, think in terms of HOPE - Hospitality, Offer Christ, Purpose, and Engagement. Being called to ministry is a serious endeavor. It takes a disciple to make a disciple. Thus we must do all we can to prepare ourselves to serve others. Are you ready to answer God s calling for you as a lay servant leader? American Red Cross Bloodmobile collected 38 units on 1/14 with the potential to save 114 lives. The next Bloodmobile will be at Trinity on March 11 th from noon to 6:00 p.m. Giving credit where due? Running late for a meeting, a man circled the block, looking for a place to park. Desperately, he raised his eyes toward heaven and prayed, Lord, if you ll find me a parking spot, I promise I ll start going to church again. Just then, a car pulled out of a space right in front of the man. Never mind, he said to God. I found one!

See Mandy or Jeff Rocks for more details Grateful for grace John Newton, a slave-ship captain who became a minister and abolitionist, had a special affinity for grace. In fact, he wrote the hymn Amazing Grace to celebrate the freedom that God gives to Christians. I am not what I ought to be, Newton said. I am not what I want to be. I am not what I hope to be. But still, I am not what I used to be. And by the grace of God, I am what I am. Loves Me Not?. A girl asked a boy if he loved her, and he replied, Yes, of course. Would you die for me? the girl wondered. After a brief pause, the honest lad said, No, mine is an undying love. UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS Happy February United Methodist Women! We are ready to start the new year with our February meeting on Monday the 11 th at 7:00 pm. Our theme this year is: SISTERHOOD OF GRACE: Remember the Past; Embrace the Present; Transform the Future. We will have our business meeting and get our new program cards for our boxes. Susan Keightley. will present the program Women Witnessing to New Life. We will also work on our photo board depicting United Methodist Women from the past, present and future. Save the dates in March: Saturday, March 16 at 9:30 am - For the officer training and brunch. That twist on the classic children s song emphasizes the importance of being both loved and known. It s not one or the other; it s hard truth and ridiculous grace, sings contemporary Christian artist Tauren Wells in Known. Timothy Keller, in The Meaning of Marriage, describes the duality this way: To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.

5 NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Because of our Child Protection Policy we need 2 people in the nursery during the Sunday school hour and during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Please contact the church office if you are able to help during either of these times at trinityumc@redbird.net or There are also sign-up sheets in the nursery. LOW IMPACT/STEP AEROBICS CLASS Exercise to Energize - Classes meet on Mondays & Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. We exercise with music and mix in light weights and floor exercises. We would love to have you join us! If you have any questions ask Allen or Alberta Stojkovic REIMBURSEMENT VOUCHERS If you make any authorized purchases for the church, please return the original receipt and a completed Voucher to the church office within one month of the purchase. This will insure that you receive your reimbursement on time and it also helps the church keep its accounts up to date and accurate. Blank Vouchers are available in the church office Altar Flowers The Altar flower sign-up sheet is located in the hall next to the workroom. Make sure you write who is purchasing the flowers and who they are In Memory of or In Honor of. The cost of the flowers is $30. Please mark Altar Flowers in memo line of your check made out to Trinity UMC. The church office orders flowers for anyone who has signed up the week before the Sunday they are for. If you decide to get them yourself at another florist, please let the church office know in advance. Thank you! SPECIAL EVENTS AND USE OF FACILITIES We are fortunate to have a facility that is busy through the year. If you plan to hold a special event, work session or other function in the church, please make sure to check availability of date and time with the church office as far in advance as possible. A Building Use form may need to be completed and returned for approval and signature by the Trustee Committee. The forms are available in the church office or may be ed by the office at your request. Your cooperation in this process helps everyone coordinate use of the facility. Thank you! KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS PROGRAM Trinity is part of the Kroger Community Rewards program.
