[cont d on page 2] MINISTER S MESSAGE I hope all of you had a good and refreshing summer. Each week we have been welcoming more people back to worship from cottages and vacation. I always look forward to e worship on Thanksgiving Sunday which I believe is one of e most important services of e year. What can possibly be more important an giving anks to our Good and Gracious God and to Christ our Saviour? Every day and in every circumstance we are surrounded by e grace of God and upheld by e power of e Holy Spirit. We have a great fai and a great hope and a great Lord! Let us give him anks togeer and commit ourselves togeer to e mission and e work of e church. As you know e Joint Needs Assessment Committee wi representatives from bo our congregation and Halton Presbytery recently reviewed our staff complement and recommended at we hire a part time Community Grow Minister. Information sessions on e report will be held following worship on October 2 and October 16 wi a congregational vote on e recommendation to be held on Sunday October 23. No matter what decision is taken, I am hoping at is whole process will result in a renewed spiritual commitment to Christ and to e church from all of our members. Hiring a new staff person can certainly be helpful, but what makes a church rive and grow is e interest and personal involvement of its members. Of course, is means financial commitment, but even more it means a commitment to grow in Christ and his way. So let me say it once more. A new staff person can be helpful in helping our church to grow and rive, but e real key will be e involvement and enusiasm of all our people. Let us strive to make e church a welcoming, Christ-like community which invites and draws people in. Let us renew our pledge to support one anoer and e church wi our talents and our presence whenever and wherever we can. Let us pray for God s help to resist e secular wave which reatens to engulf us all, and for e streng to stand fast as Christ s witnesses. And let us all be bound togeer by e love of Christ. May God bless and guide our congregation in e days ahead as we seek his will and seek to extend his work in our community. Rev. John 1

[Christian Education Committee Report cont d] Sunday School Report What is e function of Sunday School? If church exists to prepare us for eternal life, Sunday School is e planting of e seeds. Who does e watering of ese seeds? Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, e LORD is one. Love e LORD your God wi all your heart and wi all your soul and wi all your streng. These commandments at I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress em on your children. Talk about em when you sit at home and when you walk along e road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie em as symbols on your hands and bind em on your foreheads. Write em on e doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Children, obey your parents in e Lord, for is is right. Honour your faer and moer is is e first commandment wi a promise: so at it may be well wi you and you may live long on e ear. And, faers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring em up in e discipline and instruction of e Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 The Sunday School wants to help parents in e children s ongoing Christian learning and grow. The Sunday School Leadership Team consists of Vivian Aspinall, Kelli Charky and Dee Hopkins. We wish to provide teachers and parents wi support and opportunity for more interaction wi each oer. Each term we arrange for time to discuss curriculum wi e teachers. Parents are always welcome to attend. Open Session is led by Dee who works wi e children learning worship songs. Kelli leads Outreach activities. Vivian assembles lesson packages for e teachers from online curriculum sites Kids & Teen Sunday School Place. Access is available to all teachers, parents and You Leader Joanna. User nam e is Streetsville United and password is sucss. Vivian also sends out weekly s to parents and teachers concerning week s lesson. If you are not on our group please e church office at info@ streetsvilleunited.ca wi a note at you would like to be on e parents group . We desire to keep you aware of what e children are being taught. Lessons are arranged on a biblical time line so as to place biblical events and people into time and space and assist e students to a more solid comprehension of God in history. Each classroom has a time line chart to provide a visual aid from week to week. Last year we began adding events & people to e appropriate time frame week by week starting in e Old Testament. We will be inserting more detail year to year. Much like adding hangers to a closet. [Sunday School Report cont d p.4] 3

This was a trip of a life time for bo leaders and boys. The 8 days at Camp Bing on e sunshine coast sharing e scouting spirit wi 3,100 oer scouts from across Canada, e U.S. and even a troop from Australia was amazing. We kayaked e Pacific ocean, zip lined down mountains and learned what not to do when we encountered bears. This truly is God s country. From e roar of e ocean to e majestic mountains (and I must add NO mosquitoes!) it was awesome. I am sure is must be where God rested on e seven day. But all is did not happen wiout your support. The church providing us wi a home, e UCW eir donation and all of you for buying popcorn and Christmas wreas. So to all of you we say ank you, ank you, ank you. Yours in scouting, Scouter Lorraine 5
