2 O God who claims us and calls us and sends us forth, be with those men and women who have experienced your call to set apart ministry who next week will interview with our West Ohio Conference Board of Ministry. May they be articulate and passionate in who you have created and called them to be, and in the ways they have grown on their journeys of faith. Be with the members of the Board of Ministry who are this week prayerfully, intentionally and deeply reviewing candidates files in preparation for the interviews. Be with those candidates who celebrate when they hear an affirmation of their call journey, and be with those who struggle when they hear a not yet for a specific credentialing. Guide us all to learn from one another how to be your church in this world. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Let us remember in prayer those grieving the loss of their loved one, and remember in thanksgiving the life and ministry of: Mrs. Georgiana New who died on January 6, Georgiana was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham New, who had been a pastor in the West Ohio Conference and died in 2010 while on Honorable Location. Georgiana served alongside her husband in West Ohio at Middleburg (1959); Cin Columbia (1962); Innerly St James (1965); Sharon Ct (1967); Fairmount (1971); Van Wert Bethel N Union (1973); Clayton (1975); Hartwell (1978); Forest (1982); Lakeview Christ 1(1983); Honorable Location (1985). No further information is available. Rev. James Allen Sands, 68, who died on January 11, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Joy Andrea Sands in Surviving are wife, Patty Ann Sands; daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Dawn Prall and Shellie (Youssouff) Annette Sands-Fall; grandchildren, Anthony Michael Prall, Alyssa Joy Prall, Matthew James Prall and Mohamed Fall. Rev. Sands was a retired Elder in the West Ohio Conference who served 41 years in ministry at Massieville Charge (1972); Thurman Charge (1973); Barlow Charge (1976); Rainsboro Charge (1979) Clarksburg Parish (1980); Crooksville Charge (1985); Ayersville (1988); First (Springboro, 1991); Community (Circleville, 1998); Grace (Zanesville, 2004); Retired 2008; Norwich Charge (East Ohio Conference, 2008). Obituary. Condolences may be sent to Mrs. Patty Sands, 4946 Buckhorn Drive, West Chester, Ohio or online at Mueller Funeral Home. Mrs. Thelma J. Airson, 76, who died on January 15. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, William A. "Pastor Bill" Airson, who was a retired Elder in West Ohio at the time of his death in Surviving are her children, Dollie (Terry) Leasure, Patrick Airson, Peggi (William) Warthman and Gena (John) Thompson; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Gordon (Helen) Bayles Jr., Helen Bennett, Joy (Bill) Murvay, Jay C. (Terri) Bayles, Carol (Ron) Husk and John C. Bayles. Thelma was a teacher and pastor's wife. She earned her Master's in Education at Ohio University and taught art and special needs classes at schools near where Rev. Airson was appointed. Her husband served at Jacksonville- Hollister-Murray City Charge (1964); Pomeroy Enterprise Charge (1968); Union Furnace Charge (1971); Lakeview Christ (1980); Stoutsville Charge (1983); First-Ebenezer Charge (1988); Wagram (1994); and Laurel Hills-Haynes Chg (2000). 5 LOCAL CHURCH AND COMMUNITY EVENTS Mini-March for Life, Van Wert map A Mini-March for Life will take place in Van Wert on Friday, January 22, at 11:00am. This event will begin in Fountain Park and proceed to the K of C Hall on Woodland Avenue where a short prayer service will follow a light lunch. This march coincides with the national March for Life in Washington D.C, commemorating the 47 th anniversary of U.S. Supreme Court's legalizing abortion in the Roe vs. Wade decision. The intent of this event is not to condemn any who have chosen to have an abortion or those involved in abortions but to call awareness to the value of all human life from conception to natural death. All will conclude by 12:30pm. Those unable to walk may go directly to the K of C Hall. There is no charge for the lunch but donations will be accepted for the local Pregnancy Life Center. For more information go to JUNE MISSION TEAM TO NICARAGUA The first of two 2016 Volunteers In Mission (VIM) teams is now forming. The date is June The team will continue work with the Fundacion El Samaritano ministry in Nejapa, Nicaragua, a poor rural barrio on the southwest side of the capital, Managua. Ohio VIM teams have been working with this foundation every year since 1997 which is dedicated to offering quality education in a Christian environment to children who can not afford good schooling. The work of the team will mainly be concentrated on interaction with students in grades pre-school through grade 11 at the Carolina de Sirker Christian School. The interaction may include activities such as games, crafts, English practice and sports. There may also be some construction and/or maintenance work. The team will also engage in several humanitarian projects at three Managua public hospitals with maternity, women's oncology and pediatric patients; a children's feeding project with a Methodist Church; and possibly a visit to a physical therapy center originally built and now supported by Ohio United Methodists. If you would like to participate in this Nicaraguan ministry but the June dates won't work for you, the second Nicaragua team will do similar activities October Both teams will offer sightseeing, shopping and worship in and around the Managua area. If you wish to receive new blog posts via , please sign up for Ministry with the Poor updates here UMEIT Scholarships for Seminary Students The Council of Bishops' Office of Christian Unity and Interreligious Relationships (OCUIR) is an office dedicated to helping United Methodist bishops shepherd the denomination in ecumenical in interfaith ministries. Once again OCUIR will be offering scholarships to seminary students to attend the National Workshop on Christian Unity (NWCU) and the United Methodist Ecumenical and Interreligious Training (UMEIT USA) for their first time. The two training events will be held simultaneously April 18-21, 2016 in Louisville, Kentucky. All interested United Methodists are welcome to attend. The scholarships will be for United Methodist seminarians who have never attended NWCU or UMEIT previously. The application form can be obtained by ing Rev.
