I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. 2 From the Pastor s Pen In the seventeenth chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus prayed that we might be one. Today, the body of Christ seems to be so divided and in many cases people are condemned because of their convictions. Now, the unity that Jesus prayed for does not mean that we are supposed to look alike or even talk alike. It does not even mean that our worship styles will be alike. The unity that Jesus prayed for is relative to the Holy Spirit. Christ prayed that we would be one in Him one in the Spirit. This unity will lead to spiritual growth and purpose with regard to salvation. When we are saved we are to grow in grace and then lead others to the Lord so they too can be saved. It is my opinion that if we would stop focusing on the things that we don t agree on, and focus on the things that we agree on things would be a lot better for us all. We all agree that God the Father is Creator and the source of all our blessings. We all agree that Jesus is redeemer - He died for all our sins and rose for our salvation. We all agree that the Holy Spirit is sustainer, teacher and guide. Brothers and sisters, I think we all Unity agree that it is God s will that all would be saved. These are just a few things that can help us become one in the spirit. Notice that the things we agree on are all related to salvation, which is God s desire for humankind. It is my prayer that we would allow the Holy Spirit to make us one. 4 How to walk with God - Genesis 5: Enoch had such a close walk with the Lord that Scripture says, and he was not, for God took him (Genesis 5:24). This means that Enoch did not die, but was taken directly into the presence of the Lord. What a wonderful testimony! Reconciliation. This term essentially means God moving toward us. The joy of this step is that we bear no responsibility; it s all up to Him. Through the cross of Jesus Christ, God has already made His move in our direction (II Corinthians 5:18). When we place faith in the Savior, we immediately take part in that reconciliation. Trusting God. Our heavenly Father wants us to know He is concerned with our spiritual growth. He also wants us to trust that He has, through Christ, provided the means by which we can walk intimately with Him. Agreement. To appreciate the closeness God wants to have with us, we must agree with what His Word Wisdom to Live By teaches about His Son, the church, and our problem with sin. Fellowship. Just as our human relationships fall apart without regular contact, our intimacy with the Father weakens when we do not spend time with Him. Walking with God is not an impossible mission, but it does require careful attention to the details of our Christian life. When we set our course for God, he will always be there to direct our path (Proverbs 16:9). ~Dr. Charles Stanley Wellness News Got happiness? Enjoying life boosts your health! Life satisfaction, enjoyment of life, optimism, and other aspects that make up what researchers call subjective well-being may profoundly affect health. Positive emotions, both passing happiness and longer-term contentment, seem to make us more resilient to stress and are linked to healthier behaviors as well as better cardiovascular health and improved immune system functioning. Good feelings may even slow down the aging process itself! Of course, unlike clothes, books, and blenders, good vibes can t be ordered with the click of a button, and don t worry, be happy is easier said than done. You have to generate good feelings. Healthy daily routines, like regular exercise and good sleep habits, can produce feel-good brain chemicals and lower stress hormones. Make sure your relationships support your happiness, too, by investing in the ones that make you feel good - and divesting from the ones that don t. 5 Scenes from 84th Church Anniversary Sixth Annual Educational Gala The Union Chapel Christian Academy Foundation, Inc. Sixth Annual Educational Gala will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the Boone-Lacy Fellowship Hall of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. During the gala, special acknowledgements and commendations will be given to organizations and individuals for contributions in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) disciplines. This year s honorees are Dr. O. Wendell Davis, Lifetime Achievement Award; Huntsville Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Civic/Community STEAM Award; Mrs. Dawn Stanley, Inspiring Young Minds to Succeed Award; and Torch Technologies, Corporate STEAM Award. 6 Congratulations... Congratulations to Sister Brenda Martin, who will appear in the upcoming musical, Requiem for Rice. This production is a tribute to honor and recognize posthumously the scores of enslaved Africans upon whom the infrastructure of America was built and who were buried throughout the Low Country and across the United States. The event will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church located in Charleston, S.C. Congratulations to Dr. Linda Burruss, who was recently named principal of Rolling Hills Elementary School. Eagle Scout Code of Honor Ceremony Congratulations to Brother Marc Anthony Williams, who received the rank of Eagle Scout during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor held on Friday, August 4, 2017, in the Boone-Lacy Fellowship Hall. Marc is the 20th Eagle Scout from Boy Scout Troop 156. The Eagle is the highest recognition that Scouting offers. It is earned through the advancement program, and only a small percentage of boys who begin in Scouting receive this honor. The wearer of the Eagle award is the epitome of scouting s best efforts and beliefs. As his Eagle Scout project, Marc chose to build food storage bins for the Salvation Army located in Huntsville, Alabama. Marc received special recognition as the 2018 Boy Scout of the Year from VFW Post 5162 and Post Commander Jim Carter. This honor brings the potential of a $5,000 scholarship and an opportunity to represent Post 5162 at the district level. Marc is a senior at Buckhorn High School and the son of Minister Anthony and Sister Renetta Williams. 6

We ve all seen the caricatures in movies and television of the angry boss; the person who yells for no reason, barks orders and berates and demoralizes the staff. Perhaps you ve even worked for such a person.
