2 Our Pastor... We've listened. We've heard your voice. Beginning February 14 our Sunday Evening Bible study is moving back to its original time of 5:45 PM! We hope to see you there. Parents, your children have wonderful opportunities during this time with Youth Group, Missions, and Creative Arts! If you are unfamiliar with our Sunday evening study, we pick up where the sermon leaves off. It is an opportunity to ask questions about the sermon, even challenge it. We will also seek to dig deeper into the scripture and subject matters from the morning worship service. There is always lively discussion. The only thing missing is you! Children s Team Kid's Korner: Thanks to everyone who participated in and assisted with last month's activities. The Children's ministry continues to move forward in exciting and wonderful ways. On Sunday evenings we are currently working with puppets from 5:30 to 6:15. The kids are working on a fun and creative little puppet play. Stay tuned for more details. February is the month of love, and we certainly love our families and children here at FBC! That's why we'd like to offer two fun and formative opportunities this month. Valentine's Party (Parents' Date Night) Saturday, February 13, 5: :00 PM Looking for a chance to get away for a romantic dinner? Drop the kids off at the fellowship hall for some food, fun, games, and creative play. Kids will learn about God's love and how to love one another! Please RSVP by February 10 to masonfsmith@gmail.com! Parenting 101: How do I DEAL with these Kids?!!! Sunday, February 21, 9:45 AM (Childcare Provided) Ever wonder if you're making the right choices as a parent? Just need a little perspective or advice? Maybe you just yearn to hear from other parents in the struggle. Today our children face more temptation and have access to more bad influences than ever! How do we safely navigate this? What are some tips on becoming a better parent? Let's gather during our Sunday School time for a potentially eye opening conversation and study! Family Team Afternoon Chat February 18, 2016 Barnes and Noble Café at 2:00 p.m. See Me by Nicholas Sparks Page 2
3 Formations Team First Baptist Elon will welcome Dr. Tony Brooks on 3/13/16. Dr. Brooks is the Sunday School /Discipleship Specialist and Field Strategist for Virginia Baptist s Southside Region. After a light breakfast, Tony will lead a session during the Sunday School hour for all classes. After worship, Tony will then lead a workshop from 12:30-4:00pm for all who wish to participate (lunch will be provided). Statistics show that new members who participate in Sunday School or small group Bible studies, in addition to worship services are much more likely to be active members for years later. Tony will help us think outside the box in helping Sunday School and small group Bible studies meet their full outreach potential. The Formations Team is excited and is in prayer for this great opportunity. Missions Team Homeless Shelter: Responsible for the meal for the Homeless Shelter for Wednesday, February 3: Larry and Stacia Durham, Bill and Earline Mann, Milt and Janet Lanphear, Larry and Brenda Huffines, Susie Lowder, Doris Kelly ROYAL AMBASSADOR SOUPER BOWL CANNED FOOD DRIVE The Royal Ambassador Souper Bowl canned food drive begins Sunday, January 31 and runs until Sunday, February 14. Any canned or boxed food item may be deposited in boxes outside the RA room or downstairs by the Sanctuary door. All food collected will go to the Allied Churches' Homeless Shelter. CARD of THANKS... Dear First Baptist Church Members, On behalf of the inmates at the Orange Correctional Center, I would like to thank the members of your congregation who provided gifts for the children of the inmates here for family day. Although you were not with us when the fathers gave the gifts to their children or when the families partook of the baked goods, your spirit of Christian love and compassion was evident. Family day is a great opportunity to help brighten the holiday for people who are not able to be together for much of the blessed season. God bless you and your congregation as you continue to minister in His name. Jerry Love, Chaplain (Personal thank you notes from a few of the men are located on the bulletin board downstairs. Please take time to read they will bless you). Excerpts from one letter: Not only did the gifts for my grandsons make the season special, the many opportunities to worship, fellowship and have meaningful conversations became a blessing for the season. Your outreach is not only to the inmates, but it extends to their loved ones as well. My family finds peace and comfort in the fact that there loved one is not forgotten. Mark Page 3

5 Just a thought Youth News As the family and I have hibernated over the last few days because of the winter weather, I have grown increasingly appreciative of the warmth that I am blessed with in my home and the basic need of hunger being met by a full refrigerator and a full pantry. However, I am also reminded that these two blessings of shelter and food are also two things that many struggle to find on a daily basis. So for this month s newsletter article, I lift up a prayer for a three local ministries that provides these basic necessities of life. First, our community is blessed by the ministry and provisions given by the Allied Churches Homeless Shelter and Kitchen. I know many of you have the opportunity to serve a meal at the homeless shelter on a monthly basis. The ministries that Allied Churches provides for those who are hungry, cold, or hurting in our community are invaluable. Please say a prayer for Allied Churches today, and find a way to support their ministry. Second, the Salvation Army of Alamance County has really stepped to the forefront since the closure of Loaves and Fishes a year ago to provide healthy, sustainable food for those in our community. The ministry of Salvation Army goes beyond providing food, while also providing education and recreation for children, training and rehabilitation for adults, and assisting in paying heating bills across the county. Please say a prayer for the Salvation Army today, and find a way to support their ministry. Finally, an organization that our church is becoming familiar with who provides food assistance in our county and literally across the world is Feed the Hunger. Recognizing the nutritional needs of children in our backyard and in many third world countries across this globe, Feed the Hunger seeks to meet the nourishment need while also cultivating the spiritual need present by sharing the love of Christ. Please say a prayer for Feed the Hunger today, and get involved with this organization by signing up for the Feed the Hunger Packathon our church will be hosting on Saturday, February 20 at 9:00 am. Again, I am truly blessed for shelter and food, and so many others are because of the ministry of Allied Churches, Salvation Army, and Feed the Hunger. We are truly blessed!
