GATHERING PRAYER Pastor: Holy God, who made the world and called it good, who calls humanity into community with you and with each other, who breathes within our world and calls us to peace and justice, make your presence known to us here gathered that we may recognize you in the wounds of our sisters and brothers, and make real for them your hope of abundant life, through Jesus Christ, our crucified and risen savior. 3 PRAYER OF CONFESSION All: Heavenly Stranger, our Companion on the Way, we yearn for your love and grace. We seek your wisdom and guidance. We relish the joy which burns within our hearts when you are with us. Yet, sometimes we would cling to you, hoard the blessings of relationship with you, and not share your love with others. Forgive us, Dear One. Remind us that your love is to be carried throughout the world. Press us to share the hope and joy of your love, so that someone who hungers for spiritual food may be filled by our witness to your grace. Shine the light of your Spirit through us, so that we may show your Way to those who long for peace and help to revive those in whom hope has died. Amen. WORDS OF ASSURANCE Pastor: God may come to us, unrecognized, as a stranger. The Risen Christ reaches out to us in unexpected ways as we travel our own Emmaus roads. May the Word of our Still-speaking God continue to burn in our hearts. Elm City Winds is an active woodwind quintet that performs frequently throughout the New Haven area, offering audiences a range of light favorites and serious classical chamber music. The quintet is comprised of dedicated musicians who represent a range of occupations some of whom have played together for over 15 years. The group is particularly of proud of its performances that support a variety of social causes in the community. Jelly Going forward, we will be taking food donations once a month as part of our Communion Service. Please bring in your food offering on the first Sunday of each month or drop it off at the Parish House during business hours. On April 15 th, we will have a Guest Preacher, Rev. Tina Burgett. 8 At United Church on the Green, we seek to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God, following in the footsteps of Jesus. We are also a progressive Protestant Christian church, a member of the nationwide United Church of Christ (UCC). We have a long history. Established Meetinghouse was built in The Amistad Incident? Abolition of slavery? The 1970 Black Panther trials? Divestment in South Africa? United was there. We believe God is still speaking to the world today... and we're trying to listen. Not a "The Bible says it. I believe it. That settles it." kind of church. Questions encouraged. (Actually, they re necessary.) "Open and Affirming" of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people since We are working with God to build a better future. Not interested in "saving souls" or "converting the heathen."
