You have given us our manna our daily bread but we want more. We have allowed ourselves to be seduced by commercialism, telling ourselves that we are not complete until we have the nicest things. Forgive us when our actions convey that you are not enough for us. Help us to live our lives simply and faithfully, trusting in your steadfast love to provide all that we need. Amen. We welcome Pastor Actionnel Fleurisma, who works with our mission partner OFCB (Organization of the Christian Force of Bayonnais) in Bayonnais, Haiti. Actionnel and OFCB operate a school, medical clinic, and nondenominational church in the remote mountains of the Bayonnais region of Haiti. 3 *Affirmation of Faith Response The Reverend Katherine Kerr (Adapted from the Belhar Confession of Faith) We believe in God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who gathers, protects and cares for the church. We believe the church is one worldwide communion of saints, called from the entire human family. We believe the church is the single community of believers, reconciled with God and with one another. We believe that through the working of God s Spirit, unity is a binding force and also that we must seek this unity, which must become visible to the world. We believe that the sin of division, separation and hatred between people and groups has been conquered by Christ. We commit ourselves to protecting the unity of the church universal. We pledge to make this unity active in all of our words, thoughts and deeds. Part of our offering today goes to the Ten-Cents-A-Meal program, a hunger relief and at-risk youth ministry of the Presbytery of Charlotte. Children and families will pass baskets after the offering plates to collect this offering. The Session has called a congregational meeting immediately following the 11:00 a.m worship service on February 3, for the purpose of receiving the annual budget and adjusting the terms of call for the pastors. A time of personal prayer is offered following both services. In Haiti, our friends in Bayonnais and our mission team members will have the opportunity to hear the Reverend Katherine Kerr preach again. February 3: Immediately after both services, our youth will take up a collection for the annual Souper Bowl of Caring project to fight hunger locally and globally. Watch for the collection baskets when you exit the Sanctuary. After the 11 a.m. service, stay for a brief congregational meeting to receive the 2019 Annual Budget. Our ministries are different; our purpose is the same: to touch the lives of others by God s surprising grace, so every folk and nation may feel God s warm embrace. 3 Now let us be united and let our song be heard. Now let us be a vessel for God s redeeming word. We all are one in mission; we all are one in call, our varied gifts united by Christ, the Lord of all.
