Call to Confession Prayer of Confession All: Confession The Reverend Rebecca Davis Gracious God, we confess that we have not lived as you have called us to live. In our vain attempts to be what the world expects us to be, we have neglected to be who you created us to be, and misunderstood what greatness truly means. We have sought power, wealth, and influence instead of peace, compassion, and forgiveness. We have turned our backs on the needs all around us in order to fulfill our own desires. Forgive us, we pray. Cleanse our hearts and restore us to fullness of relationship with you and with one another. One: In silent prayer, let us confess to God the things we choose not to speak aloud. Amen, amen. Prayer for Illumination Proclamation First Church is a worship education experience for children in kindergarten through 2nd grade. During First Church, children participate in and lead a simplified worship service that follows the same order as our service in the sanctuary. 3 *Affirmation of Faith Response The Reverend Chuck Williamson (from The Confession of 1967) We acknowledge that God s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of human minds. We ascribe to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But in Jesus Christ God reveals love by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful people. The power of God s love in Christ transforms the world and discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of his love. First Fellowship Fellowship is an important part of Congregational Care. The time and consideration we provide one another is vital to keeping this church vibrant and nourished to continue to be for Christ in the Heart of Charlotte. Starting this winter, we will begin offering a variety of First Fellowship gatherings. These are opportunities for members and friends of our church to gather for fun and fellowship both within the walls of the church and beyond. Among these opportunities will be neighborhood/area-wide gatherings in church members homes. The church will help with logistics and other support, we just need hospitable hosts.
