2 Sunday Mornings Classes resume August 21, 2016 and continue through February 26, :15am 10:15am The Rector s Class The Rev. Ceci Duke, Facilitator Location: Room 107, Ed. Wing Focus on Luke (Bible Study) by Carol Cheney Donahoe A Bible Study based on the Sunday lections for Year C continues through the season of Ordinary Time. Led by Ceci Duke, this class reflects upon the readings for each week and explores the deeper meaning and purpose of the Scripture in the life of the church. Women s Sunday School Class Greta Loeber, Facilitator Location: Room 106, Ed. Wing A gathering of women seeking spiritual growth and support, this class decides together at the beginning of the year which books they will us to guide their discussion. 2

3 Men s Group Book Study John Haeger & Bruce Halliburton, Facilitors Location: Room 115, Ed. Wing Hallway We Make the Road by Walking by Brian McClaren This guided study of the Gospel provides a fresh interpretation of the ancient story of salvation. It is a Bible-based exploration of contemporary Christian faith. Check out the table of contents on Amazon. Paul s Letter to the Galatians or Bob Rea, Facilitator Location: Room 114, Ed. Wing Paul, who is this man and what is he talking about? In this class, we will explore who Paul is and how he came to articulate faith in Christ as expressed in his letter to the Galatians. 3

4 Newcomers Class Kristie Bernard, Facilitator Location: Parlor Dates: September 25, October 2 & October 9, 2016 This 3-part class is designed to help you become more familiar with our parish and its many activities and groups. The next session begins September 25, 2016 and meets for three consecutive weeks. The Parlor is located behind the stained glass windows in the Narthex. The first class provides a general introduction and tour of the Christ Church campus. The second class our Rector, The Rev. Ceci Duke, discusses the history and traditions of the Episcopal Church. The final class introduces various committee chairs and Vestry members who provide an overview of our activities, groups, ministries and forums. Weekday Programs Monday Evenings Education for Ministry Dianne Olson & Ellen Lewis, Co-Mentors Location: Room 114, Ed. Wing Dates: September 12, 2016 thru May 29, :30pm 9:00pm Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program, an extension of the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee, TN, provides people with the education to carry out that ministry and the opportunity to discover how to 4

5 respond to the call to Christian service. This is an exciting four-year course which explores the scriptures and church history, ethics, and theology. EfM runs for 34 sessions each year. You may join at the beginning of any year. The cost for a year s study is $ Scholarships are available. Grief to Relief Anne Keeton, Facilitator Certified Grief Recovery Specialist & Life Coach Location: Parlor Dates: September 12 thru November 7, 2016 A significant emotional loss of any kind - death, divorce, retirement, loss of health or wealth, or any other serious loss - triggers a normal and natural reaction of grief. While grief is normal and natural, and clearly the most powerful of all human emotions, it is also the most neglected and misunderstood experience. Left unresolved, grief diminishes our capacity for happiness. People tell you to "let go" and "move on," but they don't tell you how. Grief to Relief offers the Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program - the most sensible, accessible, and authentic plan available for recovery from loss. Experiential and action-based, this course will teach you to move beyond your loss. You can feel better. This is an 8-week course with a fee of $ for Christ Church members and $ for non-members. 6 Tuesday Evenings The Order of St. Luke Sharon Pitman and The Rev. Doug Coil, Facilitators Location: Room 107, Education Wing 2nd Tuesday night of each month 6:30-9:00pm The ministry of The Order of St. Luke (OSL) upholds the practice of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ throughout the world. OSL meetings are open to everyone interested in learning more about healing prayer. Christ Church currently offers healing prayer in the Parlor each Sunday during Holy Communion at the 10:30 service and from 9:00-10:00 on the 2nd Sunday of the month. The healing team is available for prayer at other times and locations by request. For more information, contact Sharon Pitman, or The Rev. Doug Coil or contact the church office. Wednesday Mornings Bible Study The Rev. Ceci Duke, Facilitators Location: Room 107, Education Wing 10:00am-11:30am This class begins with check-in and prayer, followed by study and discussion of Scripture. Our current study includes a reflection on the Gospel as presented through Brian McClaren s book, We Make the Road by Walking. 6

7 Saturday Programs and Workshops Inquirers Class: The Rev. Jody Greenwood, Facilitator Location: TBD October 29, November 5 and 12, :00am 11:00am This series of mini-workshops is an exploration and study of the foundations of our faith as understood in the Episcopal tradition. Those who participate in this class have an option to participate in the Diocesan Confirmation at the Cathedral of St. Philip on December 11 at 4:00pm. Diocesan Confirmation is for those who wish to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church, those who have been confirmed in another tradition and wish to be received in the Episcopal Church, and those confirmed in the Episcopal Tradition who wish to renew their faith. A Study of the Enneagram Tavye Morgan, Facilitator Location: Youth Center October 1, 2016; 10:00am 2:00pm Cost: $10 covers the cost of the speaker and lunch. Tavye Morgan, is a therapist and Spiritual Director with a private practice in Decatur, Ga. She also works as a mental health counselor for Positive Impact Health Centers in Atlanta. In addition, she is a certified Enneagram teacher, workshop and seminar leader. She received her Enneagram certification through The Enneagram Professional Training Program where she studied with Helen Palmer and David Daniels, foremost writers and teachers of the Enneagram in the United States. She received a Masters of Divinity from Emory 7

8 University, Candler School of Theology and a Masters of Clinical Mental Health from Mercer University. In her Psychotherapy and Spiritual Direction practice, she utilizes her expertise in the Enneagram to assist clients in recognizing their personal strengths as well as obstacles, which may create difficulties in living the life they want for themselves. Dream Work Heidi Simmonds, Facilitator Location: Youth Center January 28, 2017; 10:00am 2:00pm Cost: $10 covers the cost of the speaker and lunch. This workshop, based on Jungian Psychology, provides an overview of the function of dreams in one s inner life. We explore a variety of methods in approaching dream work and consider the implications for our spiritual life. Participants will also have an opportunity to participate in a dream group during the afternoon session. Foundations of Mindfulness Shirley Banks, Spiritual Director, Facilitator Location: Youth Center March 4, 2017; 10:00am 2:00pm Cost: $10 covers the cost of the speaker and lunch. This workshop provides an introduction to the practice of mindfulness. We will learn skills for noticing three aspects of daily experience: the body, affective responses, and cognitive states. We will begin and close with a meditation on loving kindness. Suitable for beginners, those who are curious, and those with prior familiarity with meditation. 8
