HOLY GOSPEL ~ Matthew 14:13-21 Now when Jesus heard [about the beheading of John the Baptist], he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him 4

5 and said, This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves. Jesus said to them, They need not go away; you give them something to eat. They replied, We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish. And he said, Bring them here to me. Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. THE QUILTERS are in need of cotton fabric used for the tops of the quilts. They also need blankets, mattress pads and non-working electric blankets which are used to line quilts. Please, no denim or sheets at this time, they have more than they can store. Ever thought about joining our Quilters? Don t know how to sew?, that s okay, we have non-sewing jobs too! They meet every Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM downstairs in the Quad. Any age is welcome! SUNDAY TRANSPORTATION TO WORSHIP FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, call the church office at before 2:00 PM on Friday to request a ride. Drivers needed for the Sunday morning transportation schedule. Please call Larry Leaping Lutherans Relay for Life team is holding a raffle for the 78 x 98 Relay for Life homemade T-shirt Quilt on display in the fellowship hall. Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5, and will be available after worship services on Sundays and Wednesdays. The drawing will be held August 27, If you would like to help sell tickets ~ see AJ. Food Pantry ~ August is Food Pantry Month for OSLC Fill the Pool with Food as we Rally for the Pantry is the theme for August, when OSLC will be serving the Spearfish Community Food Pantry. The sign-up sheet is in the fellowship hall and 4 workers will be needed each day for the 1 st -16 th. We will be holding a contest this year with a $50 gift card to the winner. When you bring food to the church you will place it in one of the two swimming pools at the back of the fellowship hall. You will also complete a slip with your name, phone number, and a guess of the total number of pounds that will be collected for the month. In a conversation with Pastor Kay from the Pine Ridge Retreat Center, she mentioned needs they have this summer: Diapers size 5 & 6 Personal Care/hygiene kits (adult size toothbrush, toothpaste, bath size bar of soap, shampoo and comb all wrapped in a new towel and tied with a ribbon or string) Please bring items to OSLC and place them in the basket by the Reception Desk.
