Second Collection: A few weeks ago we took up a second collection for Catholic Charities to help the people of Texas and Louisiana who are recovering from Hurricane Harvey. 5 Female Veterans: The Grayson Springs DAR (Daughters of America Revolution) are planning an event to honor all female veterans. If you know of any please contact Linda Peterson at or A Little Humor: A man got a real tough penance from the priest one day after going to confession. The priest told the man, for your penance I want you pray a whole decade of the rosary. The man told his friend, the good news is I only have one more year to go. Change: If nothing changes, nothing changes. - Earnie Larsen. Parish Ministries: It is never too late to signup for any of the ministries in our parish. Just talk to Fr. Tony or call the parish office. Good Health: Hundreds of medical studies have shown that being spiritual can help us live longer. Even if these studies were to reverse their findings and say that being spiritual can t extend our life span, faith can still add fulfillment to our years of whatever number. Prayer, altruism (selflessness), and a sense of belonging to a community are a prescription for holistic health. (Rx: Meditate, donate, and congregate regularly to improve your health. Consult your Divine Physician if your condition weakens.) Turn Off That Racket! It takes time to make peace with silence, but it s important to do. Every so often, we need a breather. We need to experience the truth revealed by the author of Psalm 46 when he wrote, Be still and know that I am God! Joy for All: The Joy of the Gospel is for all people: on one can be excluded. Pope Francis The joy of the Lord will be my strength. (Nehemiah 8:10) St. Paul School Calendar October 22 Mr. Gatti's Fundraiser 11 am - 8 pm Must bring a church bulletin or flyer mentioning fundraiser in order to receive the percentage. Set your mind on things above (Colossians 3:2) Scripture Sunday: Today, October 15 has been designated by Bishop Medley as Scripture Sunday in our diocese. This is in response to Pope Francis s desire that one Sunday of the year would be set aside in an effort to make the Sacred Scriptures better known. The bookmarks inserted in today s bulletins explains this further and proposes a method of praying the Scriptures called Lectio Divina which is Latin for Sacred Reading. Men s Prayer Group: Men of Saint Joseph, it is time to stand up and show the parish, your children and grandchildren how prayer is the way to make a difference and a change. This Monday, October 16, at 6pm in the basement of the rectory (street side entrance) we will pray as a group of brothers in Christ. This is a wonderful way to get started praying for our country, our town, and our Church and be an example for all to see and follow. To find out more you may call Deacon Bob Higbee at Volunteer s Needed: St. John s Thrift Store could use your help. They are located at 301 N Main Street in Brownsville. The store hours are Monday Saturday, 9:00 am 2:30 pm. If you could volunteer to work one day or part of a day, once a week or a couple of times each month, please give Barbara Fitzhugh a call at or
