As we uncover the story of the very first Christmas and discover the reason we celebrate Christmas, we will discover that Jesus gives us the most perfect gifts: the gifts of hope, peace, joy and love. Dec. 3/4 Hope Like Mary As we get started learning about the good gifts God gives us when we follow him we will learn that we can have hope because God had a plan. He sent His one and only Son Jesus because He loves us and wants to have a friendship with us. Mary had hope and trusted God and we can too. Dec. 10/11 Peace Like Joseph Before Jesus was born Joseph was nervous. An angel appeared to Joseph and said don t be afraid. Joseph followed God and did the things God asked him to do. God gave Joseph the gift of peace and he wants us to have the gift of peace too. We can have peace like Joseph. Dec. 17/18 Joy Like the Shepherds After Jesus was born an angel came to visit the shepherds. The angel told the shepherds not to be afraid. The angel said he was bringing good news of great joy. Just like the shepherds could be given the gift of joy because of Jesus birth, we can also have joy when we trust and follow Jesus. Dec Love, God s Perfect Gift God loves us so much that he sent his son, Jesus to earth to be born as a baby. It was part of his plan to have a friendship with us. Being friends with God and following his ways is the best and most perfect gift of all. His gift of love is so great and is the reason we celebrate at Christmastime! 3

4 What You Need to DO and KNOW Each Week Opening Do This: Create excitement in the room by being enthusiastic as you gather everyone together near the stage. As Kid-Os are entering the large group room, give high-fives, thumbs-up, welcome the Kid-Os by name, dance to and follow along with actions in the song, and get Kid- Os ready to listen and engage. Know This: Creating an environment with lots of energy can help get the Kid-Os excited for what is to come. Interacting with Kid-Os can help them feel known and more comfortable in the environment. Some Kid-Os may still be shy or stand-offish, and that is okay. You will use the time throughout large group to earn their trust and help them engage in the activities and learning. Welcome & Rules Do This: Keep your energy-level high, and get Kid-Os excited to learn together. Go over all three rules in order, but feel free to use various questions or statements to help reinforce the rules. Know This: During this time, you are working to get the Kid-Os excited for the remainder of large group. You can help reduce some of the anxiety Kid-Os may have by giving them a preview of what you ll be talking about later on. Worship Songs Do This: Perform the provided actions to the songs and demonstrate enthusiastic worship for the Kid-Os. Encourage the Kid-Os to join in, sing louder, or do specific actions, but do not force them to participate. Help the Kid-Os engage in singing while continuing to direct them toward God. Know This: Not every Kid-O is going to sing or do actions to the songs. That is okay. Some Kid-Os may be shy or are not interested in singing and worshipping at this point. Memory Verse Do This: Repeat the verse with the Kid-Os three or four times. The first time use very quiet voices, the second time use normal voices, and then we always end using our SUPER, DUPER loud voices! Know This: Do what you can to make this time fun while keeping the Kid-Os focused. Another volunteer approved by kids staff could also lead through this. Kid-O-Whampus Do This: Dance and get Kid-Os excited during the Kid-O-Whampus Rap. Participate in the actions and lead kids as needed. Know This: Some Kid-Os may need more encouragement than others to get involved, but as long as you look like you re having a blast, most of the Kid-Os will get excited about this too. Prayer Do This: Encourage the Kid-Os to be respectful of God and others especially if there is still talking or other distracting actions/noises going on in the room. Know This: We ask Kid-Os to fold their hands and close their eyes so they are less distracted and are being respectful of those around them during prayer. 4

We are going to have a lot of fun. We might have lots of new friends with us today. If you are a new friend here in Kid-O-Deo, we want you to know we will be singing some songs, learning a Bible memory verse, and hearing an awesome story. Before we get started, we need to talk about the rules that we have in Kid-O-Deo. Following the rules will help us all to have a great time today! Let s talk about our three rules now. Rule #1: When I m talking you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Now that we all know the rules, I think we are ready to get started. Do you know what holiday we are celebrating this week? CHRISTMAS! That s right; Christmas is this week! We celebrate Christmas because it is when God sent his one and only Son Jesus to earth. Friends, God made each one of us and he loves us so much! That is why He sent us Jesus. During Christmas many of us like to get and to give gifts. Did you know that God gives us the best gifts? We will learn more about the good gifts that God gives us a little later today, but I want you to know that God gives us gifts because he loves us so much! Can you repeat this after me? I can love Jesus because he loves me. I CAN LOVE JESUS BECAUSE HE LOVES ME. Know This: This statement is one of the five values we teach Kid-Os at Eagle Brook Church. 6

7 Worship 3:00 Christmas is this week, so let s sing a song about Christmas and Jesus being born! Kid- Os, are you ready to sing with me? YES. Great, let s stand up and get ready to sing. Song 1: Christmastime Bible Adventure 5:00 (Auto advance) Wow. That was so much fun. Thank you for singing with me. Friends, over the last few weeks we have been opening gifts and adding ornaments to our tree. As we have been doing that we have been learning about the real reason we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus. Let s take a look at some of the ornaments we have added to the tree and show our new friends all that we have learned. Know This: You could put all of the ornaments in order on the tree top to bottom, to help you to remember the order. Also, if you d like you can take the ornaments off the tree as you teach, show them to the kids, and put them back on the tree. This is an angel ornament. We learned that an angel came and told Mary that she was going to have a baby. This baby would be God s son. Do This: Point to the angel ornament as you talk about the angel. God sent his Son Jesus to this earth because he loves us so much. The angel told Mary that Jesus would be a King and would rule many nations. Do This: Point to the crown ornament on the tree Mary was afraid at first but after God gave her the message about Jesus being born, Mary was full of hope. Do This: Point to the word hope. An angel also came to talk with Joseph. Joseph was going to get married to Mary but was afraid. After the angel came, Joseph wasn t afraid anymore. He was full of peace. Do This: Point to the angel and then to the word peace. 7

8 When it came time for baby Jesus to be born, Mary and her husband Joseph tried to find somewhere to stay. All of the inns were full and had no room, but they finally found a place to stay. Do This: Point to the inn. Angels came and told the shepherds that Jesus was born. They had been waiting a long time for Him to be born. They wanted someone to save them, someone to be their king and their leader. Do This: Point to the angels. The shepherds were very excited to hear the message from the angels about Jesus birth and they were full of joy! Do This: Point to the word joy. That was so much fun learning about when Jesus was born. To keep learning about our story, it s time for us to go on a little adventure! Let s go on a Bible Adventure. Kid-Os, are you ready for a Bible Adventure? YES. Bible Adventure Jingle On our adventure today, we are going to learn more about the story of the birth of God s son, Jesus. In order to do that, we are going to watch a video. The story in this video comes from the Bible. Do This: Show kids the Bible. Friends, are the words and the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL. That is right. The Bible is God s true Word, so we know this story really happened. Like I said, for this Bible Adventure, we are going to watch a video on the screen. We will watch and listen to what is on the screen because this video will help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the Bible was written. First, I m going to read this card to you to help you understand the story we are going to hear. Do This: Read the paragraph summary of the Bible story. Know This: On the card will be this paragraph: In our story today we will see that King Herod heard from the wise men, or the magi, that there was a king that was born. This king was God s Son, Jesus Christ. The wise men followed a star from God to a town called Bethlehem to find the boy who was going to be a great king. 8

9 Let s see the part of the story when the wise men and King Herod learned about Jesus birth! Herod s Plot 5:31 (Auto advance) Everyone had been waiting a long time for someone to come and save them. The wise men knew that this child named Jesus was going to be born and that he was going to be their Savior. He would be a mighty king who would rule the whole world. The wise men knew how much God loved them when Jesus was born! God sent Jesus here to this earth for each and every one of us and just like that made the wise men feel full of love, we can feel loved too. Love is a gift that God gives us. We can know we are loved because God sent his one and only Son just for each of us. God s love is a great gift! That reminds me of our Memory Verse. Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance Memory Verse) James 1:17 Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. Kid-Os, this is our memory verse! It is important that we work on learning verses from the Bible. These words from the Bible help us to learn more about who God is. We are going to work on memorizing these words today. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. This verse is telling us that all of the good and perfect gifts are from God, and this includes gifts like love that we are learning about today. Everyone stand up on your feet and let s practice our Memory Verse together. You can listen and watch me do the actions once. Then we can all start practicing it together! 10 Worship 3:00 Stay standing because we have another song to sing. This song is all about how Jesus is the best present ever. Will you try and sing along with me? YES. Great, let s give it a try! Song 2: Best Present Ever Application 4:00 (Auto advance) I love singing fun songs about Christmas with you. Jesus really is the best present ever! You can all sit down. Kid-Os, today we heard of some really great gifts that God gives us when we follow him. These are gifts like hope, peace, and joy. Let s turn the last yellow box to find out another gift that God gives us. Do This: Point to the words hope, peace, and joy as you talk about them. Find and turn the yellow gift to reveal the LOVE ornament on it. Friends, one of the greatest gifts that God gives us is the gift of love! That reminds me of this gift. Inside this box is an ornament for our tree. Do This: Grab the red gift box and take out the heart ornament in it. Kid-Os, what is it? A HEART! Yes, it is a heart! Today we learned that the wise men waited a long time for Jesus to come. They followed a star from God and traveled a long way to see Jesus. I bet they felt very loved knowing that God sent his one and only Son Jesus to earth for all of us. Kid-Os, God love us very much too. This heart can remind us of love. God s love for us is such a wonderful gift. Kid-Os, I have great news. Each of you will leave today with a heart ornament just like this one! Every time you look at your ornament, I hope you will remember the gift of God s love for us. Do This: Put the heart ornament on the tree. 10

11 So, now we know the real reason we celebrate Christmas. We celebrate Christmas because God loves us and sent his Son Jesus to be born! Now that we know the story of Christmas and Jesus birth, it s time to find out why God sent Jesus here. To learn more about why God sent Jesus, we will open one last present today. It is a blue gift. Do you see it? Do This: Let the kids try and find the blue gift by pointing to it. Grab the gift and bring it to the center of the stage. Take the top off and one by one take out the items as you talk about them and put them on the cross. Great job. Thank you for helping me. Let s see what is in our last gift and see if we can find out why God sent his Son Jesus to this earth. Do This: Take out the picture of the two kids fighting. Put it on the cross where the cross forms a T. Friends, God is perfect and never does anything wrong, but every single one of us do things that we know we shouldn t do. We call that sin. Sin includes things like lying to someone, disobeying our parents, and stealing something that is not ours. Sin is also when we fight with other people, like in this picture. God is perfect and we are not, because we do things wrong all the time. Because of this, we can t be close to God. I think that makes God sad. So, God made a plan. His plan was to send Jesus for us. Do This: Take out the red sash and drape it around the cross covering up the picture of the kids fighting as you talk about the next part. Our sins, the things we do wrong, deserve a punishment. That punishment is being far from God. God s plan was to send Jesus to this earth. Jesus was born as a baby but grew up and lived a perfect life. Jesus came here to willingly die on a cross like this and take the punishment for every single person s sins. Kid-Os, even though he never did anything wrong, Jesus took the punishment for us so that we could be forgiven and have a way to be close to God forever! After Jesus died on the cross they put his body in a tomb, which is like a cave, but Jesus didn t stay dead. He is way too powerful for death! On the third day after Jesus died on a cross for us, he came back to life! Jesus is powerful and he loves us all so much. Jesus wants to be the leader and king of our life. He wants to save us from the punishment for the wrong things we do and be friends with us. Do This: Take out the crown and place it over the top part of the cross. If you believe what Jesus did for you and want him to be the Leader and Savior of your life, all you have to do is tell him! You can tell Jesus that you know that you do wrong things, that you believe he died on a cross because he loves you and that you want him to 11

12 be your leader and friend. If you are ready to tell Jesus that and to be friends with him forever, you can ask a grown-up about that today. We can feel loved because God sent Jesus to this earth just for us. Love is one of the gifts God gives us when we follow him. Good listening, Kid-Os. Are you all ready for our Big Idea? 13 Prayer 1:00 (auto advance) Let s Pray Now it s time for us to talk to God together by praying. God loves you so much. He sent his Son Jesus to this earth just for us. God wants to be your friend and he loves when we spend time talking to him, so we are going to do that right now. You can fold your hands in your lap and close your eyes, so you are only thinking about the words we are saying to God. You don t have to fold your hands and close your eyes to talk to God, but doing this can help us be respectful and think about what we are saying. If you want, you can echo the words for the prayer after me. Dear God, We love You. Thank You for loving us. Thank you that you gave us the great gift of love by sending Jesus for each one of us.
