God works for the good of those who love him, but how did he work good things through all of Joseph s ups and downs? Join us as we search for clues, discover evidence, and reveal the truth behind God s amazing faithfulness to Joseph. 3 All the trouble began with a fantastic, beautiful coat. It was a gift for Joseph from his father, but it made his ten older brothers jealous. In their anger, they threw Joseph into a pit and sold him to be a slave. This week, we ll investigate how God demonstrated that he was still working in Joseph s life even when everything around him seemed to be going terribly wrong. Lesson 2: The Clue of the Careful Caretaker Things were looking up for Joseph! As a slave, he was put in charge of an important official s house and was known as a trustworthy and good person. With all that power, it would have been very easy for Joseph lie, cheat, or steal. This week, we ll see how God helped Joseph make the right choice, even when that may not have been an easy thing to do. : The Clue of the Caring Companion It has been a rollercoaster ride for Joseph. Without doing anything wrong, he went from slave to prisoner. Joseph may have felt lonely in prison, but God showed him that he was never really alone. Even in prison, God helped Joseph do his best. When two of the other prisoners had strange dreams, God helped Joseph understand them. We ll investigate the evidence and discover that God can help us no matter where we are. Lesson 4: The Clue of the Cautious Commander When Joseph was summoned by Pharaoh, it was his chance to be free. If he did what Pharaoh said, he might finally get out of prison. Pharaoh asked if he could understand dreams, and Joseph said no. Why would he say that? Joseph knew that it s God who can interpret dreams, and Joseph needed wisdom from God to give Pharaoh good advice. God gave Joseph wisdom and brought more good things into his life. God wants to give us wisdom too! Lesson 5: The Clue of the Captured Cup Joseph was now second in command of Egypt. He was a big deal. When his brothers came to Egypt asking for food, it looked like Joseph s chance to get back at them for the terrible things they did to him. However, Joseph knew about something more powerful than simply trying to get even. This week, we ll see how God worked through Joseph s ups and downs and taught him about the power of forgiveness. We are going to have a lot of fun! We will be singing some songs, learning a Bible Memory Verse, and hearing an awesome story. First, let s go over the rules we have in Kid O Deo. Rule #1: When I m talking, you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Now that we all know the rules, I think we re ready to get started. We are going to become detectives as we catch clues to fill up our Clue Catching Board! Do This: Point to the Clue Catching Board. Last week we solved a case by learning that God can help us do what s right. We ve also been learning about a man named Joseph who got a beautiful coat from his dad, but his brothers got jealous sold him to be a slave. After he was sold, Joseph worked for a leader in the land of Egypt. Joseph was a really good worker, but then Joseph got thrown into prison even though he didn t do anything wrong. Value 1:00 5

6 Today we will discover how God was with Joseph in prison, and we ll find clues to help us see that God is with us too! I m super excited to learn more about God with you. The word hosanna is in this song a lot, and it means to praise God and show how much we love him. Everyone stand up and let s move our hands and feet as we praise God together! Let s check our mailbox to see if it s arrived yet. Here it is! Do This: Open the mailbox, take out the letter, and read it out loud. Know This: The letter reads: Dear Junior Detectives, 6

7 I have a tricky case for you to solve. Sometimes I feel alone, or lonely, here in the forest, especially when my friends and family are busy doing other things. I like to talk to God, but I m not sure how to know when he is with me. Can you help me find out where God is when we re lonely? Sincerely, Tweet Friends, it s time to start our detective work! We re going to fill up our Clue Catching Board with clue cards to help Tweet find out where God is when we re feeling alone or lonely. Before we find our first card, we need some extra clue catching gear. I have some gear here, but all of you have super special imaginary gear. As I get my gear, make sure to use your imagination so you can get yours too! Know This: If having the teacher wear/hold the gear is too much of a distraction, simply have the teacher wear/use imaginary gear along with the Kid Os. Gear picture: detective cap, briefcase, magnifying glass So, let s all put on our clue catching caps Do This: Put on cap. open up our big briefcases Do This: Open briefcase. and take out our mighty magnifying glasses. Do This: Take out and look through magnifying glasses. Magnifying glasses help small things look bigger! Now that I have my clue catching cap on, I seem to remember that there was also a package inside our mailbox. I wonder if that will help us figure out our first clue! Do This: Take the package containing the grape juice and the first clue card from the mailbox and open it. Hold up the juice. Clue Card #1: Juice Detectives, can you use your mighty magnifying glasses to tell me what this is? JUICE! You re right! Our first clue card with a picture of a cup of juice was inside this package too. Do This: Put the clue card on the board. 7

8 Way to go, everyone! We have our first clue! This clue has something to do with an adventure we like to go on here in Kid O Deo a Bible Adventure! Bible Adventure Jingle Our Bible Adventure should lead us to our second clue too! Do This: Hold up the Bible. Kid Os, are the words and the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL. That is right. The Bible is God s true Word, so we know this story really happened. Remember, we re learning about Joseph. Our story jumps back in where we left off last week right after Joseph was sent to prison even though he didn t do anything wrong. Let s get started! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave throughout the story. Picture 1: Joseph working in the prison Joseph was put in prison for something he didn t do. He might have felt lonely at first, but God showed Joseph that he was still with him. One of the workers in the prison liked Joseph, so he put Joseph in charge of the other prisoners. Joseph took care of everything that happened in the prison, and he did a good job. Can you say, Way to go, Joseph! WAY TO GO, JOSEPH! Even in prison, God was with Joseph and helped him do many things. Picture 2: Joseph talking to the two prisoners There were two prisoners who had worked for the king of Egypt, who was called Pharaoh. The prisoners had confusing dreams, and they were sad because no one could tell them the meaning of their dreams. Joseph talked to the prisoners, and with God s help, Joseph told them what their dreams meant. Picture 3: The cupbearer explaining his dream One of the workers was Pharaoh s cupbearer, which meant he would bring Pharaoh his drinks. Can you pretend you are drinking a glass of juice? In the cupbearer s dream, he was bringing Pharaoh a drink. Joseph told him that this dream meant he would get out 8

9 of prison in three days, and he would get his job back. Joseph asked the cupbearer to remember him when he got out of prison so he could help Joseph get out of prison too. Picture 4: The cupbearer bringing Pharaoh a drink Do you think the cupbearer got out of prison like Joseph said he would? YES! Yes, Joseph was right! Three days after Joseph told the cupbearer the meaning of his dream, Pharaoh had a big party for his important workers. Pharaoh had the cupbearer let go from prison, and he gave him his job back. Joseph had told the cupbearer to remember him, but he forgot all about Joseph. This meant Joseph was still stuck in prison, but he wasn t alone. God was with him. Picture 5: The cupbearer talking to Pharaoh as he remembers Joseph A couple of years later, Pharaoh had two dreams. Pharaoh was very worried about these dreams, and he asked lots of wise people what the dreams meant, but no one could tell him. Then, the cupbearer remembered someone who could tell what peoples dreams meant with God s help. Who do you think he remembered? JOSEPH! Joseph was going to be free! Awesome job listening to our story, Kid Os! Wait a minute what s this? Do This: Turn the last page in the book to reveal clue card #2. Clue Card #2: Prison Our second clue card is in our book! What is this a picture of? PRISON! Yes, it s a picture of a prison like the one Joseph was in. Do This: Put the clue card on the board. We learned that God was with Joseph even while he was in prison. Joseph might have felt lonely at first, but God showed Joseph that he wasn t going to leave him. Remember, to solve Tweet s case, we need to find out where God is when we re lonely. We ll need to find our last clue to know for sure, but we have some important detective training to do first! God gives us the Bible so we can learn more about him and his son, Jesus. The words in our Memory Verse teach us that God can use all the things in our lives for good if we love and follow him! Do This: Read the verse from the screen. This verse was written a very long time ago, but these words are still true today. Everyone stand up because we re going to practice our Memory Verse together! Do This: Practice the memory verse. Great job practicing the Memory Verse and completing this part of our detective training, Kid Os! Worship 2:00 We have another song to sing, so please stay standing! This song is about the Bible. A little bit ago, Tweet told us that she needs our help solving a case. She wants us to find out where God is when we feel lonely. We ve found two clue cards so far: juice and a prison. In our Bible Adventure today, was God with Joseph while he was in the prison and talking to the cupbearer who brought Pharaoh his drinks? YES! That s right! Next week we ll learn about what happened when Joseph got out of prison and how God was with him then too! We know that God was with Joseph, but we still need one more clue to find out where God is when we feel lonely. 10

Take out your magnifying glasses and start looking because our last clue is Do This: Finish this thought by giving a hint to where the clue card is hidden and have the Kid Os help you find it. You can make this silly by acting like you can t find it. Kids love being the experts! It could be hidden in a basket, under a book, behind the flower pot, or anywhere else on/near the stage. Great job helping me find our third clue card! Let s put in on our Clue Catching Board. Clue Card #3: Kid reading the Bible outside/kid praying inside Detectives, it looks like the Kid O in the picture is spending time with God in a couple of different places. She s looking at stories from the Bible outside, and she s praying and talking to God inside. It looks like she knows that she can spend time with God anywhere. There is a Bible verse written on this clue card too. I ll read it from the Bible, and we can see if it helps us solve our case. Do This: Open the Bible and read Joshua 1:9b. Joshua 1:9b I am the Lord your God. I will be with you wherever you go. In this verse God is telling someone many years ago that God will be with him wherever he goes! And you know what? God will be with us wherever we are too if we love and follow him! After reading this Bible verse and seeing our last clue, I think we re ready to solve our case. Detectives, if God is with us everywhere, will he also be with us when we re lonely? YES! You re right! God is always with us, so we never have to feel alone. Having God with us is like always having a friend to talk to. We can think about God, learn about him, or talk to him by praying. God can help us feel better when we re sad or scared. God is also with us when we re happy! No matter how we re feeling, God is there and wants to help us. And God is with us wherever we go like how he was with Joseph in the prison. He s with us at the park, in the car, at the store, and everywhere! 11

12 I m really glad God cares about us so much that he s always with us and helping us. God is great, he loves you, and he wants what s best for you! Tweet, did we solve the case?
