F I R S T U N I T E D M E T H O D I S T C H U R C H Glad Tidings Potter s Wheel "Let me see again." (Mark 10:51, NRSV) March 5, 2015 by Rev. Tom Jeff Healey was born sighted, but was struck with cancer as a toddler. The cancer forced the removal of both eyes. However, the cancer didn't take Jeff's guts. Jeff proved gutsy enough, in spite of his blindness, to take up the guitar. He learned to play a Stratocaster across his lap, forming wild, enormous chords with his left hand which no one else could play. Gutsy. Being a rock star, frontman, and also being blind? That's gutsy. It requires you to have Vision. Vision to believe you are more than your circumstances. Vision to blow beyond your limits to become what God wants you to be. Vision to see that we are all imperfect, made perfect in our weakness by a loving God. But it takes guts. So one day Jesus is passing through Jericho, and is stopped by a blind beggar. Jesus asks the man what He can do for him. "Let me see again." This beggar, named Bartimaeus, had been born sighted, and then lost his eyesight, possibly in the same way as Jeff Healey, but not his Vision. It takes guts to see. To let Jesus show us what we've been missing. To illuminate everything about Himself-and about us-that we've been blind to. Dear Reader, you are more than your circumstances. As the crowd said to Bartimaeus that day, "Take heart. Get up. He is calling you." Jesus wants to show you what you've not seen. It's worth seeing. But it takes Vision. Got guts? Tom
