3 Dear Friends, November brings the abundant harvest into full view. It is a time for praise and gratitude for all we have been provided. The hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness expresses this great abundance. Because of the Lord s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your Faithfulness. (Lamentations 3: 22, 23) One of the important lessons the Children of Israel had to learn during their wilderness journey was that God s provision of manna for them was on a morning by morning basis. They could not survive on old manna nor could it be stored for future use (Exodus 16: 19-21). While enduring hymns are born out of a particular dramatic experience, this was simply the result of the author s morning by morning realization of God s personal faithfulness in his daily life. Shortly before his death in 1960, Thomas Chisholm wrote: My income has never been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years which has followed me on until now. But I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant keeping God and that He has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care which have filled me with astonishing gratefulness. Thomas Obediah Chisholm was born in a crude log cabin in Franklin, Kentucky. From this humble beginning and without the benefit of high school or advanced education, he somehow began his career as a school teacher at the age of 16 in the same country school where he had received his elementary training. After accepting Christ as Savior, he became editor of The Pentecostal Herald and later ordained as a Methodist minister. Throughout his long lifetime, Mr. Chisholm wrote more than 1,200 sacred poems, many of which have since become prominent hymn texts. Continued on page 4 3

5 The Venice Presbyterian Church pantry has provided 83 families with food already this year. Your donations are greatly appreciated! 1) Peanut butter and Jelly 2) Spaghetti sauce and dry pasta & canned pasta meals 3) Boxed foods 4) Pet food and treats 5) Canned meats (tuna, chicken, spam, beef stew) 6) Breakfast Foods (cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, pop-tarts) The RAMM monthly open pantry is held the third Saturday of each month, from 10am to 12pm, at the Ross Schools Administration Building, room 101. The monthly fresh market open pantry has served 170 families this year. 7 The Community Thanksgiving Eve service will be held at the Shandon Congregational Church at 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 22nd. Free photos with Santa Claus from 11am to 2pm at the Country Christmas on December 2nd! Kids can shop in our Sugar Plum Shoppe for gifts for parents, grandparents and siblings. All items are $5.00 and under! 7

13 Venice Church hosted a community Trunk or Treat this year at our church on Sunday, October 29th, from 4pm-5:30pm. We had a great turn out of families and children from our community to come out for treats, games and fun! Thank you very much for all the generous candy donations. Thank you to Vickie Kirk for making treat bags with all the donated candy. Thank you to those that provided a decorated vehicle for the event: Kara Brandenburg, Dale & Melanie Hanson, Tom & Vickie Kirk, Pete & Becky Berling, Andrew & Erin Story, Debbie Schwab, Monica Schwab, Cindy Licata, Kevin & Tracey Spille. Thank you to Andrew Story and our Youth Team for providing apple cider, donuts and a variety of games and prizes, and Pastor Jan for being the Christmas Elf & handing our Country Christmas flyers. 13

14 SHOE BOX CHRISTMAS! It's not too soon to start thinking about our 3rd annual Shoe Box Christmas to benefit Haven House Homeless Shelter! The results in the past two years were AWESOME! Remember, it's easy...a shoe box filled with small gifts for a woman, man or boys or girls. The gifts, for example for a woman, can be filled with lotions, hairbrush, warm socks, knitted hat, gloves, candy bar, etc. All can be purchased at a dollar store (Dollar Tree - where everything is $1). Then Christmas wrap them and put a tag on the outside indicating whether it is for a woman, man, etc. Last year we collected and delivered 113 boxes. I spoke to Rev. Bobby Grove III at Haven House recently and he told me again how grateful they are to have gifts for their residents to receive at Christmas. Let's do it again this year! Start bringing in filled shoe boxes after Thanksgiving and we will be delivering to Haven House during the 3rd week in December. Thanks in advance. Questions! Our first get together will be a lunch outing to Market Street Café in Harrison on Thursday, November 16, We will meet at the church at 11:00 AM and carpool down to Harrison.
