In it attention is given to political, economic, social, religious and cultural factors and their interaction. Non-western societies receive full consideration as they influenced the West s development. 2 Sept. 28 Review Sept. 30 HOUR EXAMINATION Quiz Dates: Sept. 2 Sept. 16 GENERAL INFORMATION Examinations There will be TWO, o ne-hour examinations each of which will count 25% of the course grade. There will be a bi-weekly quiz. The total quiz grade will count 10% of the course grade. The bi-weekly quizzes will be objective, usually identifications drawn from the text assignments. The hour examinations and the final examination will combine objective and essay questions. The final examination, which counts 40% of the course grade, will be comprehensive. Make-up Examinations There will be no make-up examinations for the bi-weekly quizzes. Rather, the lowest two grades will be dropped. There will be a single make-up for each hour examination. Students who present in writing a valid reason may take the make-up examination. The time of the make-up will be determined by the instructor after consultation with the students. Grading Essay questions attempt to test the student s comprehension of significant movements, forces, events or persons and their impact on Western history. A thorough response to an essay question should demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the movement and its importance. The student should be able to make general statements concerning the movement, event or person and be able to support them with relevant data drawn from class discussions and the text. The essay should be written in clear, correct English. Grading Scale A B C D 0-59 F Attendance Students are allowed FOUR un-excused absences. Valid reasons for absences should be reported. In all instances, students are responsible for the material discussed in class. Please arrange your schedule so that you will be on time for class and turn off all cell phones and pagers. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, students with bona fide disabilities will be afforded reasonable accommodation. The office of special student services will certify a disability and advise faculty members of reasonable accommodations.
