1 THE CALLER A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2017 EDITION Wednesday Nights Resumes January 11th! We look forward to gathering again!! We will begin on January 11th with a family game & movie night. January 18th we will begin our classes. Blake will be teaching the adult class in the Fellowship Hall. This Bible study will begin with Becoming like Jesus. There will also be classes for Nursery-Pre-K 1st- 5th graders and 6th-8th graders.

2 MINISTRY TEAMS Adult Bible Studies on Sunday Mornings at 9:00 AM Everyone is invited to join us for Saffron coffee and donuts (with a slight donation requested) from 8:30-9:00 in the Fellowship Hall and then attend one of the following studies Standard Lesson - Led by Larry McMullen in the Cafe Devo area. Journey Through the New Testament-Led by Bryan Pfahl. We are now in 1 Corinthians. Join us on our journey. This study is now meeting in a room upstairs next to Rainbow s End Preschool. Meet the Good People-7 Ways to Share Faith-Led by Elaine Duncan and Pam Smith in the Library. All ladies welcome. 3 Thoughts For the Journey Who I Am Over the past three months, I have started to get to know some of you. I realize that it will take many more months to know you all more. I look forward to that day. I have always been a person who loves to visit with people. On our first date my wife and I shared a lot about our lives. Afterward she told me she was shocked that she shared all that she did that first date. She said, Something about you, just makes me want to share my whole life story, and visit for hours. We did end up spending hours talking about each other s lives many times. I love getting to discover more about what makes a person they way they are. We all have things we like (White Sox, Bears, coffee, books, dogs, board games, Nintendo), and things we don t like (peas, grilled cheese, bridges, bad drivers, cats, Packers) but that isn t really what makes you who you are. Those are just your opinions on things. Who you are is much deeper. You are a child of the King. You are created in the image of God. You are a beloved human being. When we begin to understand who we truly are, I believe we are getting closer to understanding who our God is. I believe Henri Nouwen was right when he said, The beginning of discipleship is understanding you are God s beloved. When we become aware of who we are, we will continue to grow in knowledge of who God is. I am really looking forward to studying the Gospel of John with all of you. We will begin by looking at the I Am statements of Jesus. Who does He say He is? We will start to understand who our Savior and Lord is based around His own words. 4 CHILDREN S MINISTRY kidcity Elementary Series: Knowledge is a response to the character of God. When kids turn about four years old they start asking, Why? It s like suddenly a switch flips and they begin to string together their questions in an attempt to understand everything around them. And this continues throughout life. Watch an eight-year-old for very long and you can become convinced that everyone is wired with a natural curiosity to discover what we don t know and go where we haven t been. God designed people in such a unique waydifferent from the rest of creation-to pursue finding the answers to life s hidden secrets. The very fact that we naturally pursue knowledge is proof that there is a God. It s actually genius that God would make us in such a way that we are always discovering, wondering, exploring, innovating, improving, and solving. He wants us to pursue knowing more, because He wants us to know Him more, The most important thing you can do for young kids is to invite them into the story about a really big God. It s a story that will always be bigger than they can explain or imagine, but God invites them to spend a lifetime discovering who He is and how He loves them. If you want to know who God is and how God loves, look to Jesus. When Jesus stepped foot onto the planet, God was once and for all with us. John writes this about Jesus, The Word became a human being. He made his home with us. We have seen his glory. It is the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father. And the Word was full of grace and truth. As we dig deeper in the story of Jesus, we discover more about how God desires a relationship with us and invites us to help Him spread the message of Jesus throughout the world. To do that, we need to know God through Jesus. kidcity Pre-K Series: HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you had a fantastic Christmas season filled with joy and laughter and love. Now that our preschool friends have heard that Jesus was born, it s time for them to learn that He is with them ALL THE TIME and He is all they need. Throughout the month, our children will hear how Jesus was there for people in the past. He was there when the blind man needed Him. He was there when a man was lowered from a roof by his friends on a mat needed Him. He was there to calm the storm when the disciples needed Him. Just like He was there when all these people needed him in the past. He will be there when we need Him in the future. That s what we want to plant in the hearts of our preschoolers this month. Jesus is all we need, and He s with us ALL THE TIME.

5 YOUTH MINISTRY SUNDAY MORNING EXPERIENCE 9:00-10:00 am YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US 9:00 am meet in the rooms in the lower level of the north building. Join us for grade appropriate Bible Study, making a stronger connection with our faith, Bible and church family. We pray together, have monthly activities and serve together. Please encourage & invite your young students to attend. We would love to have them! The coaches: Carlee & Brody, Larry and Georgianne Connect Jr.-Those students who are in Junior High Connect Hi-Those students who are in High School Connect U-Those students who have graduated high school and moved on to College/University or career minded UPCOMING EVENTS Secret Sister Sign Up 2017 All of the ladies of the church are invited to participate in this ministry of caring and sharing with other sisters in Christ. You will each be given a sister that you will need to pray for and encourage. It is wonderful to have someone that prays for you daily and is there to send you an encouraging note from time to time. We ll be keeping our sisters a secret; so don t let anyone know who you have. Of course, it may be fun for you to guess as we go along. At the end of the program year, we will reveal our sisters. You may pick up a questionnaire at the Welcome Center. New Member s Breakfast January 8:45 am Creve Coeur Christian Church will be honoring our newest members from CCCC Congregation: The Fellowship Committee is asking you to bring one of the following Breakfast meat, Fruit, Pastries/ Bread. Egg casseroles and drinks will be provided. Note: There will be no Sunday School on this day.
