1 TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 500 COURT STREET, PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA JULY 2016 THE TRUMPET TRINITY MISSION TRIP TO BOYS HOME OF VIRGINIA On Sunday, June 26, Fr. Charles and nine Trinitarians departed for the Boys Home of Virginia in Covington for a 4 day Mission Trip. Participating, in addition to Fr. Charles, were Paul Radford, Mike Sedlacek, Brian Early, Robin Vogt, Andrea Morgan, and Andrea s four grandsons Zion, Kaden, Quincy and Tyler. The trip was rewarding and our volunteers worked hard cleaning up after the flooding storms. Following is an excerpt from a Boys Home describing the damage and how they were handling it. The photo below was included with the . More photos are on the next page. In June, Boys Home of Virginia was hit by two strong storms, both leaving damage in their path. On June 16, in Alleghany County, a heavy, intense wind storm swept through the area leaving trees and branches down, damage to houses and buildings, and thousands without power. A week later, on June 23, Boys Home was in the path of a storm that brought heavy downpours and flooding waters to the area. Boys Home, fortunately, had no damage to buildings during the wind storm and was not among the hardest hit areas during the flooding. However, we have sustained damage to several parts of the campus that will require extensive repairs Despite our losses, we were extremely fortunate as the wind damage and flooding could have been much worse for us. God s hand of protection was over the staff and boys and the Boys Home community pulled together to clean up the aftermath of the storms that hit us. We had MissionWorks teams planning to be here the weeks following both storms who arrived ready to work and help with cleanup efforts. St. John s Episcopal Church and St. Paul s Episcopal Church, both of Lynchburg, arrived the week after the wind storm and cleaned up several fallen trees during their time with us. Trinity Episcopal Church of Portsmouth, VA arrived several days after the flood and worked to move ALL of the molding hay out of the barn in their short time here. 2 BOYS HOME MISSION TRIP Do you (or did you ever) play a musical instrument? Is that guitar, horn or piano getting dusty in the corner? Would you be interested in getting together with others to play and learn from one another? If so, please speak with Fr. Charles or Joe and Laurine Dabbs to let them know. 3 TREASURER S REPORT AS OF JUNE 30, 2016 The following summary provides the financial position of Trinity Episcopal Church operations as of the end of June, Category June YTD YTD Budget $64, Pledge and Plate 1 $9, $71, Below Budget by $7, in first 6 months Other Revenue 2 r $21, $142, $142, Total Revenues 1,3 $31, $206, $214, Total Expenses 4 $24, $202, $216, Net $6, $4, ($1,820.95) HOW IS TRINITY S FUNDING TO PARC (PORTSMOUTH AREA RESOURCES COALITION) BEING USED TO HELP INDI- VIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN NEED IN PORTSMOUTH? Donations are periodically made to PARC by Trinity from Mission and Outreach and from the Clergy Discretionary Fund. PARC in turn, investigates requests for financial aid and provides financial assistance to those individuals or families requesting it, rather than Trinity contributing funds directly to individuals in need. Individuals requesting aid are referred to PARC. A June, 2016 report to Trinity from PARC, provided by Annie White-Guertin, Executive Director, stated the following:...trinity s funding on a routine basis to PARC goes a long way in assisting disenfranchised families in Portsmouth funding PARC with the full amount of Trinity s allocated funds allows PARC to maximize its receipt of matching federal and state grants. PARC therefore leverages its ability to assist even more of Portsmouth s less fortunate families. Our records show $3200 YTD (fiscal year) from Trinity that has blessed various households that have come to PARC for help....$700 in August/Sept was deposited in our Direct Assistance Account. In April 2016, your $2500 was used toward assisting 12 families (including 21 children) at our shelter and provided various supportive services for 6 transitional households and 16 households maintaining permanent housing. Trinity s $2500 (deposited in our Operating Account) enabled PARC to bring our community at lease $7500 federal and state grant funds to also assist these households. Please extend our appreciation to all who have answered the prayers of so many with this financial support. Trumpet Pg. 3

4 SUMMER EVENTS COMING UP! FIRST FRIDAY EVENING GATHERINGS On Friday, July 1st, about ifteen people visited Trinity, many for the irst time, as they particpated with Fr. Charles and Joe and Laurine Dabbs in healing prayers, music and tours of our Sanctuary! This is the start of a new tradition at Trinity. Why don t you stop by!! Our next First Friday Evening Gathering will be on Friday, August 5th from 5-6:30 pm. Join Fr. Charles, Joe and Laurine for music and healing prayers. Volunteers are still needed to mow, trim and weed in the churchyard at least two weeks of every month this year. Please sign up for your week now! If volunteers cut the grass, the money designated for the churchyard will be used for other much needed maintenance to monuments, tombs, gates, and tree trimming. Please consider signing up to help.
