1 OCTOBER 2013 Open Hearts * Open Minds * Open Doors Mary Virginia Taylor, Resident Bishop Rev. Dr. Adam E. McKee, III, District Superintendent Lori Hopper, Administrative Assistant, Editor 706 S. Illinois Avenue, Suite D102, Oak Ridge, TN Office: Fax: District ordist@holston.org FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT Make Joyful Noise Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100: 1-3 RSV Psalm 100 is the presentation of a thank you offering to the Lord. The thanksgiving arises as an acknowledgement of the character of God. The worshippers have experienced his goodness and mercy! With singing and words of praise, the worshippers enter the Lord s presence celebrating his consistent and reliable acts of steadfast love. In the ebb and flow of human existence, through the good times and bad let it be known that the Lord is in the blessing business! On Sunday, September 29, 2013 the members of the Oak Ridge District gathered together to acknowledge and celebrate how the Lord is moving in our district. Rather than conduct the normal business type of district conference, the people of the Oak Ridge District came into the temple with singing and celebration. From the Children s Choir, Orchestra, Youth Presentation, Ministry Testimonies, and Soloist; we celebrated our shared ministries and connection. A special word of thank you goes out to Mike Adcock, District Music Director and all those who participated and made our district conference a time of celebration Let the Church say AMEN! Grace and Peace, Adam

5 Oak Ridge District UMW Annual Meeting and Local Officer Training Saturday, November 9, 2013 Central UMC, Lenoir City Registration begins at 9:30 AM REV. ROSEMARY BROWN will be the guest speaker. Rev. Brown spoke at the 2013 Spiritual Enrichment Experience in Lake Junaluska, and in the words of one who attended: Reverend Rosemary Brown is a gifted speaker and pastor who is able to open people s eyes and hearts and show God s presence in a myriad of human situations. Her testimonies and stories were so powerful that I was on the edge of my seat and laughed at her humor, cried tears of joy and sorrow and could feel God s presence. If you have heard her, you will want to hear her again. If you have never met Rev. Brown, you are in for an exciting and uplifting experience. Hands-On Mission Project UMCOR stands for United Methodist Committee On Relief. "UMCOR Disaster Response, United States" responds to disasters no matter where they occur in our nation. A member of our District Team volunteers frequently at UMCOR s Sager-Brown Depot in Louisiana, and she has been notified that supplies are very low. We have been very lucky in the Oak Ridge District to miss most of these natural disasters. The Lord has blessed us with a beautiful (and mostly safe) area of the world. Women and children (and men also) are suffering in many areas as a result of the disasters above, and the District Mission Team wants to maximize the assistance we can give as our ANNUAL MEET- ING HANDS-ON PROJECT. Please bring your donations in cash or check (made out to Oak Ridge District UMW ) to our Annual Meeting on Saturday, November 9th. Once monies are collected, they will be donated to UMCOR Disaster Response, United States. THANK YOU for your generous United Methodist Woman spirit!
