Rite of Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Stand: The altar server enters the chapel, followed by the presider carrying the Luna with the Host. We begin to sing a selected song relating to the liturgical season or the mystery of the Eucharist. Kneel: While the presider places the Luna with the Host into the monstrance on the altar. Once the presider has reached the front of the altar and kneels, he will lead all in singing the Salutaris or some other appropriate Eucharistic song. O saving Victim, op'ning wide The gate of heav'n to man below, Our foes press on from ev'ry side; Thine aid supply, thy strength bestow. O salutaris Hostia Quae coeli pandis ostium: Bella premunt hostilia, Da robur, fer auxilium O Saving Victim Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament Kneel: Once the individual, private adoration/devotion is completed for the hour, the presider and altar server will return to the front of the altar. While the presider incenses the monstrance, all sing the Tantum Ergo (or another appropriate Eucharistic song): Down in adoration falling Lo, the sacred host we hail; Lo, o'er ancient forms departing, Newer rites of grace prevail; Faith for all defects supplying, Where the feeble senses fail. Tantum Ergo (Continued on back cover) To thy great name be endless praise, Immortal Godhead, One in three. Oh, grant us endless length of days In our true native land with thee. (Amen.) Uni trinoque Domino Sit sempiterna gloria, Qui vitam sine termino Nobis donet in patria. (Amen.) To the everlasting Father, And the Son who reigns on high, With the Spirit blest proceeding Forth from each eternally, Be salvation, honor, blessing, Might, and endless majesty. (Amen.) From the Saints "If we but paused for a moment to consider attentively what takes place in this Sacrament, I am sure that the thought of Christ's love for us would transform the coldness of our hearts into a fire of love and gratitude."- St. Angela of Foligno "Recognize in this bread what hung on the cross, and in this chalice what flowed from His side... whatever was in many and varied ways announced beforehand in the sacrifices of the Old Testament pertains to this one sacrifice which is revealed in the New Testament."- St. Augustine "God dwells in our midst, in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar."-st. Maximilian Kolbe "Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again in glory. These words contain the very essence of the Eucharistic mystery. In them we find what we bear witness to and share in every day as we celebrate and receive the Eucharist. In the Upper Room Jesus effects the consecration. By virtue of His words, the bread - while keeping the external appearance of bread - becomes His Body, and the wine - while maintaining the external appearance of wine - becomes His Blood. THIS IS THE GREAT MYSTERY OF FAITH! THIS IS THE LIVING BREAD WHICH CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN!" -Blessed John Paul II When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host, you understand how much Jesus loves you now. Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Do you realize that Jesus is there in the tabernacle expressly for you for you alone? He burns with the desire to come into your heart don t listen to the demon, laugh at him, and go without fear to receive the Jesus of peace and love -St. Therese of Lisieux 33

A Short Visit to the Blessed Sacrament Before Meditation In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. I place myself in the presence of Him, in whose Incarnate Presence I am before. I place myself there. I adore Thee, O my Saviour, present here as God and man, in soul and body, in true flesh and blood. I acknowledge and confess that I kneel before that Sacred Humanity, which was conceived in Mary s womb and lay in Mary s bosom; which grew up to man s estate, and by the Sea of Galilee called the Twelve, wrought miracles, and spoke words of wisdom and peace; which in due season hung on the cross, lay in the tomb, rose from the dead, and now reigns in heaven. I praise, and bless, and give myself wholly to Him, Who is the true Bread of my soul, and my everlasting joy. St. Michael Prayer St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.. Anima Christi Soul of Christ, sanctify me Body of Christ, save me Blood of Christ, inebriate me Water from Christ's side, wash me Passion of Christ, strengthen me O good Jesus, hear me Within Thy wounds hide me Suffer me not to be separated from Thee From the malicious enemy defend me In the hour of my death call me And bid me come unto Thee That I may praise Thee with Thy saints and with Thy angels Forever and ever Amen. 32 Table of Contents Divine Mercy Chaplet Night Prayer September Morning Prayer September Evening Prayer September Night Prayer September Morning Prayer September Litany of the Sacred Heart How to pray the Rosary Litany of the Most Precious Blood 28 Guide to Confession Additional prayers From the Saints...33

The Divine Mercy Chaplet 1. Make the Sign of the Cross In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 2. Optional Opening Prayers You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. (Repeat three times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You! 3. Our Father Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen. 4. Hail Mary Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen. 5. The Apostle's Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Prayer to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament --by St. Alphonsus Liguori My Lord Jesus Christ, Who, through the love which You bear toward men, does remain with them day and night in this Sacrament, full of mercy and love, awaiting, inviting and receiving all who come to visit You, I believe that You are present in the Sacrament of the Altar. From the abyss of my nothingness, I adore You. I thank You for all the graces which You have bestowed upon me, particularly for having given me Yourself in this Sacrament, for having given my Your most holy Mother Mary for my advocate, and for having called me to visit You in this church. I pay my homage to Your most loving Heart for these three ends: 1) in thanksgiving for this great Gift; 2) to make amends to You for all the outrages which You do receive in this Sacrament from all Your enemies; 3) I intend by this visit to adore You in all the places on earth in which You are present in this Sacrament and in which You are the least honored and the most abandoned. My Jesus, I love You with my whole heart. I am sorry for having offended Your infinite goodness so many times. I purpose, with the help of Your grace, never more to offend You; and, at this moment, miserable as I am, I consecrate my whole being to You. I give You my entire will, all my affections and desires and all that I have. From this day forward, do what You will with me and with everything that belongs to me. I ask and desire only Your holy love, the gift of final perseverance and the perfect fulfillment of Your will. I commend to You the souls in Purgatory, particularly those who were most devoted to the Most Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary; and I also commend to You all poor sinners. Finally, my dear Savior, I unite all my affections with the affections of Your most loving Heart; and thus united, I offer them to Your Eternal Father, and I entreat Him, in Your Name and for Your sake, to accept and answer them. Amen. Angel's Prayer At Fatima "Most Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences whereby He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart Of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners." 2 31

You shall not covet your neighbor s goods. Am I content with my own means and needs, or do I compare myself to others unnecessarily? Prayer for a Good Confession O my God, by my grievous sins I have crucified again Thy Divine Son and made Him a mockery. For this I have deserved Thy wrath and made myself fit for the fires of hell. How ungrateful have I been to Thee as well, my heavenly Father, Who created me out of nothing, redeemed me by the precious Blood of Thy Son and sanctified me by Thy holy sacraments and by the Holy Ghost. But Thou hast spared me by Thy mercy, to make this confession. Receive me back as Thy prodigal son and grant me to confess well, that I may begin anew to love Thee with my whole heart and soul, and henceforth to keep Thy commandments and suffer patiently whatever temporal punishment may remain. I hope by Thy goodness and power to obtain everlasting life in Paradise. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen. An Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee. And I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen How do I go to Confession? The following may be helpful in preparing for confession. Above all, do not be afraid. If you are hesitant about what to do, ask the priest for help: Greeting: The priest welcomes the penitent warmly and greets him or her with kindness. Sign of the Cross: Then the penitent makes the Sign of the Cross, which the priest may also make. Invitation to Trust in God: The priest invites the penitent to have trust in God using one of the formulas in the ritual or similar words. If the penitent is unknown to the priest, it is proper for the penitent to indicate his or her state in life (married, single, or clergy), the time of his or her last confession and anything else that may help the confessor in exercising his ministry. Reading of the Word of God: Confession of Sins and Acceptance of Satisfaction: The penitent confesses his or her sins and accepts the prayers or deeds that the priest proposes as a penance. Prayer of the Penitent and Absolution: The priest asks the penitent to express sorrow by praying one of the prayers found in the ritual or in his or her own words. The priest then prays the Prayer of Absolution, to which the penitent responds: "Amen." The Eternal Father Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. 7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. 8. Repeat for the remaining decades Saying the "Eternal Father" (6) on the "Our Father" bead and then 10 "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion" (7) on the following "Hail Mary" beads. 9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times) Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. 10. Optional Closing Prayer Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. 3

Night Prayer September 12, 2013 The Feast of the Holy Name of Mary Make the Sign of the Cross God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me. Alleluia. Examination of conscience: We are called to have a clear conscience toward God and toward men, in our hearts and in our minds, in our actions and inactions. To do so, it is vital that we examine our conscience daily and to ask for God s mercy as we fall short and to ask for His strength to do better. Lord Jesus raise us to new life: Lord, have mercy Lord have mercy Lord Jesus, you forgive us our sins: Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord Jesus you feed us with your body and blood: Lord, have mercy Lord have mercy HYMN (optional) PSALMODY Ant. In you, my God, my body will rest in hope. Psalm 16 God is my portion, my inheritance The Father raised up Jesus from the dead and broke the bonds of death (Acts 2:24). Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you. I say to the Lord: You are my God. My happiness lies in you alone. He has put into my heart a marvelous love for the faithful ones who dwell in his land. Those who choose other gods increase their sorrows. Never will I offer their offerings of blood. Never will I take their name upon my lips. O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup; it is you yourself who are my prize. The lot marked out for me is my delight: welcome indeed the heritage that falls to me! 4 A Brief Examination of Conscience Based on the Ten Commandments I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me. Have I treated people, events, or things as more important than God? You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. Have my words, actively or passively, put down God, the Church, or people? Remember to keep holy the Lord s Day. Do I go to Mass every Sunday (or Saturday Vigil) and on Holy Days of Obligation (Jan. 1; the Ascension; Aug. 15; Nov. 1; Dec. 8; Dec. 25)? Do I avoid, when possible, work that impedes worship to God, joy for the Lord s Day, and proper relaxation of mind and body? Do I look for ways to spend time with family or in service on Sunday? Honor your father and your mother. Do I show my parents due respect? Do I seek to maintain good communication with my parents where possible? Do I criticize them for lacking skills I think they should have? You shall not kill. Have I harmed another through physical, verbal, or emotional means, including gossip or manipulation of any kind? You shall not commit adultery. Have I respected the physical and sexual dignity of others and of myself? You shall not steal. Have I taken or wasted time or resources that belonged to another? You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. Have I gossiped, told lies, or embellished stories at the expense of another? You shall not covet your neighbor s spouse. Have I honored my spouse with my full affection and exclusive love? 29

Alleluia. HYMN (optional) Ant. 1 You alone I have grieved by my sin; have pity on me, O Lord. Psalm 51 O God have mercy on me Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness. In your compassion blot out my offense. O wash me more and more from my guilt and cleanse me from my sin. My offenses truly I know them; my sin is always before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned; what is evil in your sight I have done. That you may be justified when you give sentence and be without reproach when you judge. O see, in guilt was I born, a sinner was I conceived. Indeed you love truth in the heart; then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom. O purify me, then I shall be clean; O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow. 6 The Five Luminous Mysteries are traditionally prayed on Thursdays: 1. The Baptism of Christ in the Jordan 2. The Wedding Feast at Cana 3. Jesus' Proclamation of the Coming of the Kingdom of God 4. The Transfiguration 5. The Institution of the Eucharist Praying the Rosary 1. Make the Sign of the Cross. 2. Holding the Crucifix, say the Apostles' Creed. 3. On the first bead, say anour Father. 4. Say three Hail Marys on each of the next three beads. 5. Say the Glory Be 6. For each of the five decades, announce the Mystery, then say the Our Father. 7. While fingering each of the ten beads of the decade, next say ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Mystery. Then say a Glory Be. (After finishing each decade, some say the following prayer requested by the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima: "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy.") After saying the five decades, say the "Hail, Holy Queen, followed by this dialogue and prayer: V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us pray: O God, whose Only Begotten Son, by his life, Death, and Resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contained obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. 27

The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles' Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel's words announcing Christ's birth and Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. St. Pius V officially added the second part of the Hail Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ's life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and added by Pope John Paul II in 2002 the Luminous. The repetition in the Rosary is meant to lead one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each Mystery. The gentle repetition of the words helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts, where Christ's spirit dwells. The Rosary can be said privately or with a group. The Five Joyful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays of Advent: 1. The Annunciation 2. The Visitation 3. The Nativity 4. The Presentation in the Temple 5. The Finding in the Temple The Five Sorrowful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Tuesday, Friday, and Sundays of Lent: 1. The Agony in the Garden 2. The Scourging at the Pillar 3. The Crowning with Thorns 4. The Carrying of the Cross 5. The Crucifixion and Death The Five Glorious Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Wednesday and Sundays outside of Lent and Advent: 1. The Resurrection 2. The Ascension 3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit 4. The Assumption 5. The Coronation of Mary 26 Make me hear rejoicing and gladness, that the bones you have crushed may revive. From my sins turn away your face and blot out all my guilt. A pure heart create for me, O God, put a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, nor deprive me of your holy spirit. Give me again the joy of your help; with a spirit of fervor sustain me, that I may teach transgressors your ways and sinners may return to you. O rescue me, God, my helper, and my tongue shall ring out your goodness. O Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall declare your praise. For in sacrifice you take no delight, burnt offering from me you would refuse; my sacrifice, a contrite spirit. A humbled, contrite heart you will not spurn. In your goodness, show favor to Zion: rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Then you will be pleased with lawful sacrifice, holocausts offered on your altar. Ant. 1 You alone I have grieved by my sin; have pity on me, O Lord. Ant. 2 Truly we know our offenses, Lord, for we have sinned against you. Canticle Jeremiah14: The lament of the people in war or famine Let my eyes stream with tears day and night, without rest, Over the great destruction which overwhelms the virgin daughter of my people, over her incurable wound. If I walk out into the field, look! those slain by the sword; If I enter the city, look! those consumed by hunger. Even the prophet and the priest forage in a land they know not 7

Have you cast Judah off completely? Is Zion loathsome to you? Why have you struck us a blow that cannot be healed? We wait for peace, to no avail; for a time of healing, but terror comes instead. We recognize, O Lord, our wickedness, the guilt of our fathers; that we have sinned against you. For your name s sake spurn us not, disgrace not the throne of your glory; remember your covenant with us, and break it not. Ant. 2 Truly we know our offenses, Lord, for we have sinned against you. Ant. 3 The Lord is God; we are his people, the flock he shepherds. Psalm 100 The joyful song of those entering God s temple Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing for joy. Know that he, the Lord, is God. He made us, we belong to him. We are his people, the sheep of his flock. Go within his gates, giving thanks. Enter his temple with songs of praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name Indeed, how good is the Lord, eternal his merciful love. He is faithful from age to age. Ant. 3 The Lord is God; we are his people, the flock he shepherds. READING Wisdom 7: Simply I learned about Wisdom, and ungrudgingly do I share - her riches I do not hide away; For to men she is an unfailing treasure; those who gain this treasure win the friendship of God, to whom the gifts they have from discipline commend them. 8 V. Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, R. spare us, O Lord. V. Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, R. graciously hear us, O Lord. V. Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, R. have mercy on us. V. Jesus, meek and humble of Heart, R. Make our hearts like unto Thine. Let us pray. Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of Thy most beloved Son and upon the praises and satisfaction which He offers Thee in the name of sinners; and to those who implore Thy mercy, in Thy great goodness, grant forgiveness in the name of the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who livest and reignest with Thee forever and ever. Amen. In 1899 Pope Leo XIII approved this Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for public use. This litany is actually a synthesis of several other litanies dating back to the 17th century. Father Croiset composed a litany in 1691 from which 17 invocations were used by Venerable Anne Madeleine Remuzat when she composed her litany in 1718 at Marseille. She joined an additional 10 invocations to those of Father Croiset, for a total of 27 invocations. Six more invocations written by Sister Madeleine Joly of Dijon in 1686 were added by the Sacred Congregation for Rites when it was approved for public use in This makes a total of 33 invocations, one for each year of life of our Lord Jesus Christ. A partial indulgence is attached to this litany. 25

You, My child shall be called The prophet of the Most High, For you will go before the Lord to prepare His way, To give his people knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our Lord The dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness And the shadow of death, And to guide our feet into the way of peace. Antiphon Those who are learned will be as radiant as the sky in all its beauty; those who instruct the people in goodness will shine like the stars in all eternity. 9

Intercessions Christ is the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. Let us praise and thank him as we pray: -Nourish your people, Lord. Christ you decided to show your merciful love through your holy shepherds, let your mercy always reach us through them. -Nourish your people, Lord. Through your vicars you continue to perform the ministry of shepherds of souls, direct us always through our leaders. -Nourish your people, Lord. Through your holy ones, the leaders of your people, you served as physician of our bodies and our spirits, continue to fulfill your ministry of life and holiness in us. -Nourish your people, Lord. You taught your flock through the prudence and love of your saints, grant us conditional growth in holiness under the direction of our pastors. Our Father.. -Nourish your people, Lord. Concluding Prayer Father, The strength of all who trust in you, you made John Chrysostom renowned for his eloquence and heroic in his sufferings. May we learn from his teaching and gain courage from his patient endurance. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Blessing -Amen May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. -Amen 10 INTERCESSIONS Let us pray with confidence to Christ who endured the cross to redeem us. Save us through your cross, O Lord. Son of God you healed the people of Israel when they looked upon the bronze serpent, protect us this day from deadly wound of sin. Save us through your cross, O Lord. Only-begotten Son of the Father, you were sent into the world so that those who believe in you might not perish, grant unending life to all who long to see face to face. Save us through your cross, O Lord. Beloved Son of the Father, you were not sent to judge the world but to save it, grant faith to our brothers and sisters and bring them on the last day to the joy of heaven. Save us through your cross, O Lord. Eternal Son of the Father, you came to cast fire on the earth and you longed to see its flame kindled in the hearts of all men, grant that through holiness of life we may come to share in the undying light of your glory. Save us through your cross, O Lord. Our Father.. Concluding Prayer God our Father, in obedience to you your only Son accepted death on the cross for the salvation of mankind. We acknowledge the mystery of the cross on earth. May we receive the gift of redemption in heaven. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God forever and ever. Amen. Blessing May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. 23

Gospel Canticle Antiphon We worship your cross, O Lord, and we praise and glorify your holy resurrection, for the wood of the cross has brought joy to the world. Luke 1: The Messiah and his forerunner Make the Sign of the Cross Blessed be the Lord, The God of Israel; He has come to His people and set them free. He has raised up for us a mighty Savior, Born of the house of His servant David. Through His holy prophets He promised of old That He would save us from our enemies, From the hands of all who hate us. He promised to show mercy to our fathers And to remember His holy Covenant. This was the oath He swore to our father Abraham: To set us free from the hands of our enemies, Free to worship Him without fear, Holy and righteous in His sight All the days of our life. Antiphon We worship your cross, O Lord, and we praise and glorify your holy resurrection, for the wood of the cross has brought joy to the world. 22 Evening Prayer September 13, 2013 St. John Chrysostom Make the Sign of the Cross God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me. Alleluia. HYMN (optional) Ant. 1 Great is the Lord, our God, transcending all other gods. Psalm 135 Praise for the wonderful things God has done for us Praise the name of the Lord, praise him, servants of the Lord, who stand in the house of the Lord in the courts of the house of our God. Praise the Lord for the Lord is good. Sing a psalm to his name for he is loving. For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself and Israel for his own possession. For I know the Lord is great, that our Lord is high above all gods. The Lord does whatever he wills, in heaven, on earth, in the seas. He summons clouds from the ends of the earth; makes lightning produce the rain; from his treasuries he sends forth the wind. The first-born of the Egyptians he smote, of man and beast alike. Signs and wonders he worked in the midst of your land, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants. Nations in their greatness he struck and kings in their splendor he slew. Sihon, king of the Amorites, Og, the king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan. He let Israel inherit their land; on his people their land he bestowed. I 11

Ant. 1 Great is the Lord, our God, transcending all other gods. Ant. 2 House of Israel, bless the Lord! Sing psalms to him, for he is merciful.. Lord, your name stands for ever, unforgotten from age to age: for the Lord does justice for his people; the Lord takes pity on his servants. Pagan idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths but they cannot speak; they have eyes but they cannot see. They have ears but they cannot hear; there is never a breath on their lips. Their makers will become like them and so will all who trust in them! Sons of Israel, bless the Lord! Sons of Aaron, bless the Lord! Sons of Levi, bless the Lord! You who fear him, bless the Lord! From Zion may the Lord be blessed, he who dwells in Jerusalem! Psalm-prayer Father, your name and your memory last forever. We stand to pray in your house and praise you with psalms of joy. We ask you in your kindness to have mercy on us in our lowliness. Ant. 2 House of Israel, bless the Lord! Sing psalms to him, for he is merciful. II 12 Psalm 149 The joy of God s people Sing a new song to the Lord, his praise in the assembly of the faithful. Let Israel rejoice in its Maker, let Zion s sons exult in their king. Let them praise his name with dancing and make music with timbrel and harp. For the Lord takes delight in his people. He crowns the poor with salvation. Let the faithful rejoice in their glory, shout for joy and take their rest. Let the praise of God be on their lips and a two-edged sword in their hand, to deal out vengeance to the nations and punishment on all the peoples; to bind their kings in chains and their nobles in fetters of iron; to carry out the sentence preordained; this honor is for all his faithful. Ant. 3 How radiant is that precious cross which brought us our salvation. In the cross we are victorious, through the cross we shall reign, by the cross all evil is destroyed. READING Hebrews 2: 9-10 We see Jesus crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, that through God s gracious will he might taste death for the sake of all men. Indeed, it was fitting that when bringing many sons to glory of God, for whom and through whom all things exist, should make their leader in the work of salvation perfect through suffering. RESPONSORY We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. By your holy cross you have redeemed the world. And we bless you. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. 21

Every shower and dew, bless the Lord. All you winds, bless the Lord Fire and Heat, bless the Lord Cold and chill, bless the Lord Dew and rain, bless the Lord Frost and chill, bless the Lord Ice and Snow, bless the Lord Nights and days, bless the Lord Light and darkness, bless the Lord Lightings and clouds, bless the Lord Let the earth bless the Lord Praise and exalt Him above all forever. Mountains and hills, bless the Lord Everything growing from the earth, bless the Lord You sprints, bless the Lord Seas and rivers, bless the Lord You dolphins and all water creatures, bless the Lord All you birds of the air, bless the Lord. All you beasts, wild and tame, bless the Lord You sons of men, bless the Lord. O Israel, bless the Lord Praise and exalt Him above all forever. Priests of the Lord, bless the Lord Servants of the Lord, bless the Lord Spirits and souls of the just, bless the Lord. Holy men of humble heart, bless the Lord. Hananiah, Azariah, Mishael, bless the Lord. Praise and exalt Him above all forever. Let us bless the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Let us praise and exalt Him above all forever Blessed are you Lord, in the firmament of heaven. Praiseworthy and glorious and exalted above all forever. Ant. 2 The Lord hung upon the cross to wash away our sins in his own blood. How splendid is that blessed cross. Ant. 3 How radiant is that precious cross which brought us our salvation. In the cross we are victorious, through the cross we shall reign, by the cross all evil is destroyed. Ant. 3 All nations will come and worship before you, O Lord. Mighty and wonderful are your works, Lord God Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, O King of the nations! Who would dare refuse you honor, or the glory due your name, O Lord? Since you alone are holy, all nations shall come and worship in your presence. Your mighty deeds are clearly seen. Canticle Revelation 15:3-4 Hymn of adoration Ant. 3 All nations will come and worship before you, O Lord. READING James 3:17-18 Wisdom from above is first of all innocent. It is also peaceable, lenient, docile, rich in sympathy and the kindly deeds that are its fruits, impartial and sincere. The harvest of justice is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace. RESPONSORY In the midst of the Church he spoke with eloquence. In the midst of the Church he spoke with eloquence. The Lord filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding. He spoke with eloquence. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, In the midst of the Church he spoke with eloquence. CANTICLE OF MARY Luke 1:46-55 The soul rejoices in the Lord Ant. O blessed doctor, Saint John Chrysostom, light of holy Church and lover of God s law, pray to the Son of God for us

Make the Sign of the Cross My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever. Ant. O blessed doctor, Saint John Chrysostom, light of holy Church and lover of God s law, pray to the Son of God for us. INTERCESSIONS Jesus Christ is worthy of all praise, for he was appointed high priest among men and their representative before God. We honor him and in our weakness we pray: Bring salvation to your people, Lord. You marvelously illuminated your Church through distinguished leaders and holy men and women, let Christians rejoice always in such splendor. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. You forgave the sins of your people when their holy leaders like Moses sought your compassion, through their intercession continue to purify and sanctify your holy people. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. O God, you are my God, for you I long; for you my soul is thirsting. My body pines for you like a dry, weary land without water. So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory. Psalm 63 A soul thirsting for God For your love is better than life, my lips will speak your praise. So I will bless you all my life, in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul shall be filled as with a banquet, my mouth shall praise you with joy. On my bed I remember you. On you I muse through the night for you have been my help; in the shadow of your wings I rejoice. My soul clings to you; your right hand holds me fast. Ant. 1 To destroy the power of hell Christ died upon the cross; clothed in strength and glory, he triumphed over death. Ant. 2 The Lord hung upon the cross to wash away our sins in his own blood. How splendid is that blessed cross. Canticle Daniel 3:57-88, 56 Let all creatures praise the Lord Bless the Lord, all you works of the Lord Praise and exalt Him above all forever Angels of the Lord bless the Lord. You heavens, bless the Lord All you waters above the heavens, bless the Lord All you hosts of the Lord, Bless the Lord Sun and Moon, Bless the Lord Stars of heaven, bless the Lord

Luke 2:29-32 Christ is the light of the nations and the glory of Israel Make the Sign of the Cross Lord, now you let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people: a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. Concluding Prayer All-powerful God keep us united with your Son in his death and burial so that we may rise to new life with him, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen. Blessing May the all-powerful Lord grant us a restful night and a peaceful death. Amen. Antiphon or song in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary Morning Prayer September 14, 2013 The Feast of the Triumph of the Cross Make the Sign of the Cross God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me. Alleluia. HYMN (optional) Ant. 1 To destroy the power of hell Christ died upon the cross; clothed in strength and glory, he triumphed over death. 18 In the midst of their brothers and sisters you anointed your holy ones and filled them with the Holy Spirit, fill all the leaders of your people with the same Spirit. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. You yourself are the only visible possession of our holy pastors, let none of them, won at the price of your blood, remain far from you. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. The shepherds of your Church keep your flock from being snatched out of your hand. Through them you give your flock eternal life, save those who have died, those for whom you gave up your life. Bring salvation to your people, Lord. Our Father Concluding Prayer O God, strength of those who hope in you, who willed that the Bishop Saint John Chrysostom should be illustrious by his wonderful eloquence and his experience of suffering, grant us, we pray, that, instructed by his teachings, we may be strengthened through the example of his invincible patience. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Blessing May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Night Prayer September 13, 2013 St. John Chrysostom Make the Sign of the Cross God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me. Alleluia. 15

1 Day and night I cry to you, my God. Psalm 88 Prayer of a sick person This is your hour when darkness reigns (Luke 22:53). Lord my God, I call for help by day; I cry at night before you. Let my prayer come into your presence. O turn your ear to my cry. For my soul is filled with evils; my life is on the brink of the grave. I am reckoned as one in the tomb; I have reached the end of my strength, Like one alone among the dead, like the slain lying in their graves, like those you remember no more, cut off, as they are, from your hand. You have laid me in the depths of the tomb, in places that are dark, in the depths. Your anger weighs down upon me; I am drowned beneath your waves. You have taken away my friends and made me hateful in their sight. Imprisoned, I cannot escape; my eyes are sunken with grief. 16 I call to you, Lord, all the day long; to you I stretch out my hands. Will you work your wonders for the dead? Will the shades stand and praise you? Will your love be told in the grave or your faithfulness among the dead? Will your wonders be known in the dark or your justice in the land of oblivion? As for me, Lord, I call to you for help; in the morning my prayer comes before you. Lord, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face? Wretched, close to death from my youth, I have borne your trials; I am numb. Your fury has swept down upon me; your terrors have utterly destroyed me. They surround me all the day like a flood, they assail me all together. Friend and neighbor you have taken away: my one companion is darkness. Ant. 1 Day and night I cry to you, my God. READING Jeremiah 14:9a You are in our midst, O Lord, your name we bear: do not forsake us, O Lord, our God! RESPONSORY Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. You have redeemed us, Lord God of truth. I commend my spirit. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit. Gospel Canticle Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. 17
