3 Meditative Gospel Verses Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. (John 6:35) I am the living bread come down from heaven, says the Lord; whoever eats this bread will live forever. (John 6:51) All who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me, and I in them, says the Lord. (John 6:56) Anima Christi Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O Good Jesus, hear me. Within Thy wounds hide me. Suffer me not to be separated from thee. From the malignant enemy defend me. In the hour of my death call me. And bid me come unto Thee, That with all Thy Saints, I may praise Thee for ever and ever. Amen. Introduction Eucharist is our most precious gift. Jesus gave to us the gift of himself under the form of bread and wine that we might remember and join in his sacrifice. By joining in the sacrifice of Christ we become what we eat, his Body and Blood for the life of the world. The celebration of the Eucharist is the preeminent form of worship and participation in the very life of God, for we are doing what Christ commanded us to do to take and eat and to take and drink in memory of him. The Church has also given us another form of worship: the worship of the Eucharist outside of Mass. The Church invites us to pray in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament either reserved in the tabernacle (adoration) or exposed in the monstrance/ciborium (exposition). This time of prayer is a time when we once again open our hearts to hear God s voice and to gaze upon Christ present in the reserved or exposed Sacrament. We pray not only for ourselves, but for the needs of the world, the needs of the poor, the needs of the Church, and the needs of our local communities. During this Year of Faith and during this time of quiet prayer, let us contemplate the love of Christ who is the center of our lives and carries us beyond the trials of daily life into a world that holds the promise of hope in and through Christ Jesus. Like Pope Francis, let us open our lives to the people of this world, hearts filled with the love and compassion of Christ. As we look upon the Lord in adoration, may we always remember the gift of his sacrifice and unite ourselves to him by becoming his very presence in the world. 10 3

We adore and love you with our whole heart and soul because you are most worthy of all our love. We desire to love you as the blessed do in heaven. Flood our souls with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess our whole being utterly, that our lives may only be a radiance of yours. Shine through us, and be so in us, that every soul we come in contact with may feel your presence in our soul. Let them look up and see no longer us, but only Jesus! Jeremiah 29:10-14 Thus says the Lord: only after seventy years have elapsed for Babylon will I you and fulfill for you my promise to bring you back to this place. For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope. When you call me, when you go to pray to me, I will listen for you. When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, you will find me with you, says the Lord, and I will change your lot... The Jesus Prayer Say Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner, repeatedly as you quiet your heart and mind. Prayer for Families Blessed (Pope) John XXIII O Living Bread, that came down from heaven to give life to the world! O Loving Shepherd of our souls, from your throne of glory whence, a hidden God, you pour out your grace upon families and peoples, we commend to you particularly the sick, the unhappy, the poor and all who beg for food and employment, imploring for all and every one the assistance of your providence. We commend to you the families, so that they may be fruitful centers of Christian life. May the abundance of your grace be poured over all. Amen! 4 9
