2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace October 15, 2017 Dear Friends, Six months ago, we were out on the shrine lawn celebrating the opening of the Centennial Anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions with our Pilgrimage to Fatima Mass celebrated by Bishop Patrick McGrath. It is hard to believe that this Holy Year of Fatima has already concluded. What a blessing it is for our parish to maintain such a love for these apparitions and the message of Our Lady. She has truly taught us much throughout this year and the years gone by. Pope Benedict XVI described Our Lady of Fatima as the Teacher who introduced the little seers to a deep knowledge of the Love of the Blessed Trinity and led them to savor God Himself as the most beautiful reality of human existence (May 13, 2010). She has captivated our attention and tried to help us return to the love of the Father, through the Son (meditating upon His mysteries in the Rosary), and in communion with the Holy Spirit. Throughout the 100 years our world has seen many trials, governments and regimes trying to systematically remove the Blessed Trinity from our lives. Knowledge of the Blessed Trinity was and continues to be badly needed in our world. In the past 45 years that our parish has been observing and celebrating this devotion, we have seen much change in the culture and society around us. There is a great need to continue to allow our Mother in heaven to lead us and inspire us to leading faith lives that are filled with reparative love that is, praying, sacrificing, adoring, and loving for those who do not. There has been and always will be a need for this kind of love in the world, people who are willing to forego the comforts, the pleasures, the excesses, that are at their fingertips in order to lay down their lives for their friends. The devil will always be prowling around like a lion, looking for someone to devour, from Adam and Eve to the present day. Jesus faced this reality from the very beginning of His public ministry, Satan tempted Him repeatedly but was unsuccessful; and the Evil One continues this attack on Christ and His mystical body, the Church, in every age. We must not, however, be without hope. If God is with us, who can stand against us? Jesus has won the victory over Satan; and He continues to be with us, assuring us of victory, until the end of time. As he stood at the foot of the Statue of Mary that stands 32 feet tall out on the shrine lawn, Fr. Patrick Peyton, the Rosary Priest, offered what he called one sentence of worth: God is on our side! No matter how sad you are, or how sorrowful you are, or how hard it is for you, as you face day after day, and if all the devils of hell were around you and if sickness and sorrows invaded you, this one sentence that s mine, that causes me to have the strength to face hell and survive, its this: God is on our side! One of the primary ways that Christ comes to our aid is through the intercession and apparitions of His Beloved Mother. This is why we pray with confidence to Mary in the Memorare : never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Let us give thanks to God for the many graces that we have received throughout this Centennial Year of the Fatima Apparitions. Mary has truly been good to us, her children. She continues to work many miracles, she continues to draw her sons and daughters to the heart of her Son. May we who have the courage to proclaim the prayers that come to us from those apparitions truly mean them when we say: My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You. Let us continue to make these prayers, offering many Rosaries and sacrifices for the conversion of sinners and for peace throughout the world. Mary, Our Lady of Peace, pray for us, Fr. Pope St. John Paul II Are You a Registered Parishioner? If you attend Mass here regularly, we encourage you to register as a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. 3 main reasons why registering is important: 1. If we as a parish do not know who is out there, how can we serve the needs of all? This includes single people or young families who may not see the need to register. 2. Registering in the parish makes Sacrament prep easier when the time comes. Infant baptisms, religious education registration, being a godparent/sponsor for baptisms or confirmations, and especially getting married whether you are getting married at this parish, another parish, or having an international Catholic wedding. If you re not a registered parishioner this will greatly delay the process. 3. Letters of Recommendation Sometimes there are occasions where letters of recommendations are needed from your parish pastor (ie Catholic school enrollment, scholarships, godparent eligibility, etc.). If you re not registered, we cannot provide this letter to you or your family. Anyone, regardless of where they live and even though the Diocese is divided into parish geographical areas, is welcome to register at OLOP. Please note: there is a three (3) month waiting period from the date of registration before being considered a full-fledged registered parishioner. Any requests for pastor signatures on any forms, letters, or wedding preparation paperwork will not be processed within the 3 months. Registering is easy! Visit the Parish Office, call the Rectory Office ( ) or us (info@olop-shrine.org) to request a registration form.
