1 WARWICK TEAM MINISTRY Weekly Newsletter WELCOME TO OUR SERVICES. If you are a newcomer to St Mary s Church, or a visitor to the area, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople or the clergy. We hope that you enjoy worshipping with us. Communicant members of any Christian church are welcome to make their communion with us. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive God s blessing, simply hold this service booklet when you come to the altar rail. St Mary s seeks to be an inclusive church and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. We have a carpeted area and pew bags available for the youngest members of our congregation, if they wish to use it. And they may like to take an adult with them! If you re a UK tax payer the money you place in the collection can be increased by around 25% if you fill out a blue envelope in the nave chairs or by the main entrance and allow us to retrieve the tax you ve already paid & put it towards the work of St Mary s. 3 NOTICES THIS SUNDAY it s a pleasure to welcome St Mary s Scholars who will be singing for our choral services as our robed choirs begin their well-earned summer break. LAST SUNDAY was an Outward Giving Sunday when we take up a collection for a good cause nominated by a member of our congregation. Following on from Alycia s ordination and to celebrate the removal of the entry charge, our collection of nearly 170 will be supporting the ministry of our Cathedral in this centenary year. Our next Outward Giving Sunday will be on 16 th Sept. NEXT SUNDAY will be our regular Folk Festival and Civic Service at 10.30am, which is always a lively occasion! The short chapter on Folk Music and Religion that Vaughan wrote whilst on sabbatical study leave in 2015 and published last year in The Bloomsbury Handbook of Religion and Popular Music can now be downloaded from his website at SUMMER HOLS Please note that during July and August hours for our Church Office will be less regular because of holidays for our hardworking staff. ONLINE! Copies of Alycia Timmis sermon for the Warwick Schools Art Festival and for her first Sunday presiding at the Eucharist are now available on St Mary s website, as is the recent sermon by Tim Hart-Andersen, Senior Minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis with his thoughts on the US and wider world post-trump. ANNUAL ST MARY'S V ST NICHOLAS' CROQUET EVENING This event is kindly hosted by Mr & Mrs Bratby at 16 Bridge End, Warwick and will be held on Thursday 2 nd August at 6pm. This is always a very enjoyable occasion for both participants and spectators alike. Drinks and nibbles will be available and, there being no charge, donations will be very welcome in aid of The Friends of St Mary's. If you wish to attend, as a participant or spectator, and to assist with hosting arrangements, please add your name to the sign up sheet, which you will find on reception, on or before Sunday 29 th July. BIBLE READINGS The readings for the Folk Festival Service have not been chosen yet, so normal provision will resume next week.

5 PRAYER OF THE WEEK As the school term finishes and many families set off for holidays, here and abroad, we pray for a safe journey and a happy return. As families, we rejoice in the time given to us and the special pleasure of being together. We also remember those whose journeys are more dangerous, often made from fear and necessity rather than choice. Look mercifully on all who travel, Lord; be our guide in all we do and everywhere we go. We ask this in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. FOOD BANK NEWS A big Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Food Bank, either in stores with collecting bins, or in the basket at the back of the Church. At our recent Pastoral Meeting it was reported that, in the month of June alone, the Food Bank provided food for over 300 people in the Warwick District. Added to that the effect of the implementation of Universal Credit is expected to have a worsening impact on these figures. If you would be willing to contribute to this outreach initiative, the goods that are currently on the much needed list are: Longlife fruit juice, tins or cartons of custard, small jars of coffee, jams & deodorants (both men s and women s). I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. MESSY CHURCH WOODLOES began in May and has been a huge success attracting many non-church families from the estate to this new church expression. We could do with some more help to keep it running smoothly and are looking for the following volunteers to join our committed, enthusiastic and happy team! Set up or Clear away team volunteers are required to help set up/clear away tables and chairs and unload and pack away equipment. Volunteers are needed between am and pm on the second Saturday of the month. Craft Activity Leaders are required to create and deliver a suitable craft at the monthly session being available from 10.15am-12.30pm on the second Saturday of the month and available to attend the follow up meetings that take place usually on the following Monday from approx. 7.30pm- 9pm. You will need to be comfortable with chatting to parents and children and supporting them to engage with the craft as well as eating lunch with them. Please note you will need to provide references and hold a current and appropriate DBS certificate or be willing to go through the DBS process to be recruited to this role. CALLING ALL EX-CHORISTERS & PAST & PRESENT FRIENDS OF THE CHOIRS The Guild of Ex-Choristers AGM/Reunion on 29 th Sept. Come and celebrate Geoffrey Holroyde s 90 th birthday and the 50 th anniversary of the Friends of the Choir: 11:00 AGM; 13:00 Buffet lunch; 16:00 Choral Evensong; 19:00 Celebration Dinner.
