1 WARWICK TEAM MINISTRY Weekly Newsletter WELCOME TO OUR SERVICES. If you are a newcomer to St Mary s Church, or a visitor to the area, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople or the clergy. We hope that you enjoy worshipping with us. Communicant members of any Christian church are welcome to make their communion with us. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive God s blessing, simply hold this service booklet when you come to the altar rail. If you would like a kneeler please ask a sidesperson. St Mary s seeks to be an inclusive church and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. We have a carpeted area and pew bags available for the youngest members of our congregation, if they wish to use it. And they may like to take an adult with them! If you re a UK tax payer the money you place in the collection can be increased by around 25% if you fill out a blue envelope in the Nave chairs or by the main entrance. This allows us to retrieve the tax you ve already paid and put it towards the work of St Mary s. 3 NOTICES THANK YOU (1) to everyone who contributed to the Service of Commemoration for Thomas & Joan Oken and Nicholas Eyffler last Friday evening. This is always a slice of Warwick history but on this occasion we were also looking ahead as the Oken Charity will be benefitting from the developments on Europa Way. THANK YOU (2) to Alycis Timmis and Doreen Mills who are taking our services today whilst the vicar is celebrating his grandsons fourth birthday(s). THE WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY finished last Friday. Thank you to everyone who took part including all who shared in the Churches Together in Warwick unity service last Sunday and Kirsteen Robson who produced the prayer leaflet. EVENING SERVICE TIME We have been exploring the possibility of moving the time of our Sunday evening service from to 5.30pm. Before this is discussed by the PCC it would be helpful to have the thoughts of our Evening congregation. There will be a meeting in the vestry on Sunday 10 th February at 5.30pm for people to share their thoughts and views. CONFIRMATION CLASSES We are running confirmation classes ahead of the Bishop of Warwick taking a Confirmation and First Communion Service on Easter Eve at St Mary s. There will be two groups, one for younger candidates on Wed afternoons and one for adults on Thursday Evenings in the vestry. It s not too late to join so to find out more please speak to Vaughan or Alycia. BIBLE READINGS

4 2019 NUMBERED GIVING ENVELOPES are available at the back of church. If you are new to the scheme, please take a pack and complete your name and sign against one of the available numbers. If you are a regular scheme member and would like to change your number, please take one of the available numbers and sign next to that number and delete your name against the old number. THE FRIDAY LUNCHTIME RECITAL SERIES is underway again for 2019! It was a great pleasure to hear Warwick School pupil Luke Barker on 18 th Jan, who gave a superb trumpet recital accompanied by pianist Lynn Arnold; we will be welcoming other young musicians from our nearby schools as part of the series. The next one is on 1 st Feb given by Samuel Bristow, Organ Scholar of Birmingham Cathedral and finalist at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, who will be playing a virtuosic programme including the mighty Fantasia and Fugue on Ad nos, ad salutarem undam by Liszt. You can bring them on a Sunday and if we are not there please put them in the vestry, or if you drop them in during the week please give them in to the shop and they will give them to us. Whilst we did very well last year and raised , our collection was a little down on the previous year, so hopefully this year we can raise a little more! Lots of boxes never come in or come in every other year so please can you make a point of bringing your box in this year as every penny helps. We will count the money and return the boxes to the back of the church within two weeks. If you would like a box please let us know and we will sign you up, or if you would like to make a donation in cash or cheque please see us. Every penny helps the work of The Children s Society. 6 A BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP takes place on the last Tue of the month (29 th Jan) pm at Chase Meadow Community Centre, Narrow Hall Meadow, CV34 6BT and the first Mon of the month (4 th Feb 2019) 7pm pm at the New Life Church, Friars St. It is a bereavement support group for adults who are invited to attend 6 monthly sessions and there is no charge for the sessions. It is led by experienced facilitators and refreshments will be served by a team of trained volunteer listeners. To reserve a place or for more information please contact Stacey Bains on or stacey.bains@covcofe.org SCHOOLS TEAM VOLUNTEERS WANTED We are developing a team of volunteers to go into local schools and deliver much needed social and emotional aspects of learning through courses addressing Mental Health Resilience, Anger Management, Self Esteem, and Significant Loss. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to be trained by a sector-leading Christian youth organisation which has developed and delivered these highly effective courses for over a decade. Are you: Passionate about loving and serving our local schools? Flexible, friendly, committed and compassionate? Able to commit to term time delivery of courses in school hours (2 hours a week for a 6-week period)? Able to attend schools work (half a day training) and course delivery training (1 day per course)? Available from Feb onwards to be involved in the project? Willing to fill in an application form, provide references, and undergo a DBS check? For an application form or more information about the project please contact Stacey Bains on or stacey.bains@covcofe.org TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER IN WARWICK There is an update on the work that TCTW is doing on the Coventry Diocese website at: THE WARWICK POPPIES 2018 TEAM are excited and delighted that they will be announcing the amount of money they have so far raised, and formally presenting cheques to both The Royal British Legion and St Mary s Church during the morning Service on 17 th Feb. On that day we will be joined by several special guests, including the High Sheriff and the Mayor, and everyone is encouraged to be there too! Additionally, there will be two Poppy Sale Days in St Mary s on Fri 8 th and Sat 9 th March, between 10am and 4pm. This will be an opportunity to acquire handmade poppies that appeared in the recent display, all for a donation to our funds. There will be a very large number of poppies available, so if you have a project in mind, this will be the perfect time to choose some poppies. However, if you only want a single poppy you will be just as welcome. Tea and coffee will be available, so please spread the word!

7 CHURCHES TOGETHER IN WARWICK EVENTS Sat 2 nd & 16 th Feb: HOTS (Healing on the Street) in Market Sq, 10.00am-12.00pm. The team need more prayers and helpers: a new year s resolution maybe? Sat 2 nd Feb: Prayer Breakfast at Northgate Methodist Church, 7.30am. A very good way to start the month. Tues 12 th Feb: Churches Together Forum at Charles Borremeo, 8.00pm INK CARTRIDGE RECYCLING: If anyone would like to bring in their old ink cartridges for recycling there is a box located in the North porch. SUPPORTING THE MUSIC OF ST MARY S We are very proud of the musical tradition at St Mary s. If you would like to support the music-making here we would love to hear from you. It might be sponsoring a service of in memory of a loved one, or offering a contribution towards the cost of a set of music for the Choir, or sponsoring a concert/recital, or something else!
