Don t forget that next month s calendar is included in this edition of the Voyager. Next week, we bring to a close the season of Lent and move into the most holy time of year known as the Triduum. Tomorrow, our first-grade students will perform the Passion Play. This is a great opportunity for us to prepare our hearts for Holy Week. All are invited to join us in the church at 10:30 to share in this special performance as we are reminded about the importance of these days and the resurrection of our Lord that we look forward to celebrating next Sunday. Included in this edition of the Voyager is a reflection about the fifth week of Lent. Finally, as you all begin your Spring Break I am hopeful that you will have the opportunity to enjoy a slower paced time with your family and enjoy the retreat from school. I also pray that Holy Week be filled with peacefulness, reflection, and continued growth in your spiritual life. Blessings to you all. Kelli Braud

3 St. Paul Parish School Lent 2018, Bringing It Home Family Newsletter Grow in Holy Silence We are the clay, and You are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8 5th Sunday of Lent Prayer of Abandonment: Take, O Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. You have given all to me; to you, O Lord, I return it. All is yours, do with it according to your will. Give me your love and your grace, O Lord, for this is enough for me. Amen St. Ignatius of Loyola Creating in Holy Silence Think about the last time you were absorbed in a creative activity. It is amazing how the time flies, isn t it, when we are silently building or designing something beautiful. Our mind and body work together, listening and responding to the creative process. The Biblical image of the potter reminds us of the holiness of silence a quiet space in which we can concentrate and create. God works in this kind of creative silence as well. He knit us together in the silence of our mother s womb. He recreates us in the silence of adoration at Mass and in other times of prayer. He inspires us and gives us confidence as we silently offer our talents, time and treasure to Him. This holy silence helps us discover God s will. This holy silence connects us to God s Holy Spirit, the creative, energizing and life-giving source of our hope. St. Augustine on trusting in God s plans for you: The God who made you also knows what He wants to do with you.
4 5th Sunday of Lent St. Paul Parish School Jesus teaches the crowds in Jerusalem about God s plan to recreate the world by sacrificial love (John 12:20-33) This Gospel for the 5th Sunday of Lent tells of Jesus speaking with the crowds after His entrance into Jerusalem. He tells them the meaning of His death: unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies; it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. His death will bear fruit for all people who believe in Him and follow Him. In the silence of the ground, what first looks like death (burying the seed in the soil) becomes the way for new life: the seed sprouts, grows and changes. In the same way, the silence of the tomb becomes the silence of the womb a place of birth, new life and promise. God the Father will glorify the Son through His offering, bringing all people to new life. Creating in Holy Silence Things to do in your home this week: 1. Find some creative activity to do together preparing for Easter with a simple (or not so simple!) craft. Encourage and support creativity. For Easter projects, look at Search through their fun projects and cooking section for creative activities for your household. 2. Reflect on and pray about the two different kinds of silence: tomb silence and womb silence. Tomb silence is the silence that comes about when people have nothing to say to each other, when discouragement, resentment, despair or anger cause a climate of death. Womb silence is the silence that comes about from growth, abandonment to God, receptivity and an attitude of listening to others. Womb silence brings life and inspiration and growth. Tomb silence separates, destroys and deadens. Cultivate womb silence. Face the tomb silence constructively. 3. We have come to the final week before Holy Week. As we prepare for the great events and Liturgies of Holy Week, you can reflect on your Lenten disciplines. How has your fasting, praying and giving gone? How have you grown in cultivating holy silence? It is not too late to restart and finish Lent with a strong commitment and effort! Encourage your family to continue in your Lenten disciplines. Commit to spending Holy Week as a HOLY week extra prayer time together and attending as many of the Liturgies as possible are two key elements.
