ASHES will be distributed after the 7:00am Mass, 9:00am Mass, 4:00pm Prayer Service and 7:30pm Mass. ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY ARE DAYS OF FAST & ABSTINENCE. Fasting requires that only one full meal be taken per day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Fasting obliges all those who have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige through age 59. Those who are not specifically obliged to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent they are able. Abstinence prohibits individuals from eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence obliges all those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to oblige through throughout their lives. Those who are not specifically obliged to abstain from eating meat are encouraged to join in the discipline of abstaining to the extent that they are able. The STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be prayed every Friday following the 9:00am Mass. A series of free lectures and performances presented each Friday of Lent at 7:30pm in St. Rita s Church FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20 AT 7:30PM The artwork of Peter De Monte will be displayed in the church. Peter, at the age of 70, was divinely inspired to paint religious scenes inside seashells and use them as a way to evangelize about God. His work has been featured in the Staten Island Advance. FRIDAY, MARCH 27 AT 7:30PM A Lenten Choral Meditation (Choir of Communion and Liberation) The Choir of Communion and Liberation, directed by Christopher Vath, is composed of high school and university students and adults. Their repertoire extends from Gregorian chant to the 20th century. The choir performs throughout the New York area and was chosen to sing for Pope Benedict XVI at St. Joseph s Seminary. They sing each year for the Way of the Cross over the Brooklyn Bridge on Good Friday. Refreshments will be served in the Church Hall after each presentation, offering an opportunity to meet the presenters.
