Celebrant Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest. Celebrant Let us pray. Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Here is read Luke 19:28-40 After telling a parable to the crowd at Jericho, Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, Why are you untying it? just say this, The Lord needs it. So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, Why are you untying the colt? They said, The Lord needs it. Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven! Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, Teacher, order your disciples to stop. He answered, I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out. The Celebrant then says the following blessing The Lord be with you. And also with you. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen. The Procession of the Palms The bells are rung. The congregation receives blessed palms as they enter the church. Deacon Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Morning by morning he wakens wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught. The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, I did not turn backward. I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I did not hide my 3

The Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame; he who vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together. Who are my adversaries? Let them confront me. It is the Lord GOD who helps me; who will declare me guilty? Reader The Word of the Lord. Second Reading Philippians 2:5-11 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death--even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted 4

5 him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. As the music fills the room, allow the passion mystery to fill your heart. The Prayers of the Based on the Appointed Lessons for Palm Sunday, Year C Deacon With the words, Do this in remembrance of me, at the Passover supper in the Upper Room, Jesus included us in his journey, a way of the cross that was transformed by God s redeeming love for us. Let us be mindful of the redemptive love of Jesus as we pray: Let us be of the same mind that was in Jesus Christ, obedient to the point of death. Let the leadership in our Church never be silenced in its efforts to praise God joyfully with a loud voice. May the leaders of all nations and those who have a voice of authority learn to speak and act with the humility demonstrated by Jesus Christ, our Lord. Let us remember this day all those throughout our world who suffer at the hands of their enemies and those who persecute them. May they know the mercy of God which endures forever. May we be quick to recognize the needs of those around us and to respond with the same mercy and love that God has extended to us. There are those in our midst who are consumed with sorrow, grief, and affliction. (Pause to name, silently or aloud, those who are in need of God s grace) Let us pray that they find solace in the trust they place in God. 5

6 Let us be mindful of all those who have died and departed this life believing in the loving kindness of our God to save them, especially Sharon Bulley Parks and her father, Gilbert Bulley, for whom the candles on the Schlactensee Cross are given; Samuel and Judith Stroud for whom the altar candles are given, the Kittredge Family for whom the palms are given; and Sarah Duffy, Lisle and Doris Hebert for whom the sanctuary lamp burns. As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said: Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The Celebrant continues Remembering his death and resurrection, we now present to you from your creation this bread and this wine. By your Holy Spirit may they be for us the Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. Grant that we who share these gifts may be filled with the Holy Spirit and live as Christ s Body in the world. Bring us into the everlasting heritage of your daughters and sons, that with all your saints, past, present, and yet to come, we may praise your Name for ever. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. Amen. As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray, 7

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread Celebrant and Jesus, Lamb of God: have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins: have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer, redeemer of the world: Give us your peace, give us your peace. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. Hymnal S 164 Lamb of God The Gifts of God for the of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving. All are welcome to receive the presence of God in the Bread and Wine at our Altar. Standing or kneeling is appropriate at the Altar rail. To receive the bread, place one hand over the other and the wafer will be placed in your palm. To receive the wine, you may take a sip from the chalice, or dip the edge of your wafer into the wine. If you wish to receive a blessing instead, please signal us by crossing your arms over your chest. Gluten free wafers and chalice are available; please let us know if you require that. If you are unable to come to the Altar please inform an usher, and Communion will be brought to you. If you want to learn more about the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, please speak with Mother Nancy or Deacon Pat. Communion Hymn Jesus, remember me Taizé Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom. Postcommunion Prayer Let us pray. Celebrant and Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. 8
