2 Prayer of the Day (Collect) Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen 1 st Reading : Jonah 3:1-5, 10 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jonah The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying, Get up, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you. So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly large city, a three days walk across. Jonah began to go into the city, going a day s walk. And he cried out, Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown! And the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and everyone, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God 2

3 2 nd Reading: Hebrews 9:24-end A reading from a Letter to Hebrews For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the Holy Place year after year with blood that is not his own; for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to remove sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once, and after that the judgement, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God Gospel Reading: Mark 1:14-20 Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark Glory to you, O Lord Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news. As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, Follow me and I will make you fish for people. And immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him. This is the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ 3

4 Post-Communion Prayer God of peace, whose Son Jesus Christ proclaimed the kingdom and restored the broken to wholeness of life: look with compassion on the anguish of the world, and by your healing power make whole both people and nations; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen 4

St George Foundation AGM will be held on Saturday 24 th November in the Paterson Centre. Coffee and tea will be provided from 10am, with the AGM starting at 11am, including an update on the charity s progress. A light lunch will be provided at 12 noon. Please do come. There will be plants and cakes for sale, so any donated plants or cakes would be most welcome 5

6 Missions Giving Further to the recent notice about the PCC s proposed Missions Giving Strategy, we would now like you to vote if you haven t already done so. Please use the voting board in the Link to vote for 1 Mission per category: LOCAL 1. All Saints (Portsea) Counselling Service 2. The Roberts Centre, Portsmouth a children s support centre. 3. Friends without Borders a service to help refugees and asylum seekers in Portsmouth, based at All Saints, Portsea NATIONAL 1. Christians Against Poverty an organisation working to help people in debt, and to prevent debt. 2. Church Urban Fund - set up by the Church of England to help unmet need in deprived and impoverished areas. 3. The Salvation Army INTERNATIONAL 1. The St. George Foundation working with street children in Sierra Leone 2. Tear Fund 3. Christian Aid The mission/charity with the most votes in each category will be the one that we support, so that we are supporting a total of 3 from December 23 rd 2018 until December 22 nd Please vote by putting a tick in each of the boxes of the 3 missions you would like us to support. 7 Meon Valley Food Thank You for all your kind donations. The items needed for the coming week are dried pasta meals, part-baked bread, tomato puree, steamed puddings and sugar. Follow us on or at A Big Thank You to everybody who supported the Light Party in person, prayer and financially. We had 32 children, some under 3yrs, come along with their parents. They enjoyed a light show with music in Church, The Lantern Puppets on the big screen, craft, games and a party tea. Thank you. Ben & The SC Team Toy Service On Sunday 25th November at 10am we our having our Toy Service in aid of the EC Roberts Centre, Portsmouth. The EC Roberts Centre is a unique child focused charity in Portsmouth with a range of services offering support and assistance to families in addressing their situation of homelessness or dealing with the issues of relationship breakdown. If you have any good quality second hand or new toys, children s coats, hats & scarfs please bring them along. Tea and cake will follow the service. Thanks, Ben & The SC Team Christmas Crib Service We are currently planning the Crib Service. Like last year, we would like to have 4 adults, dressed as nativity characters, outside welcoming people as they come in to Church (weather permitting) We have the fire pit ready and this year we have some adult costumes! 8 Shoe Box notice We have decided this year, due to lack of time, not to support the Shoe Box Appeal. Instead, we are having a Toy Service on Sunday 25 th November in aid of The Roberts Centre, Portsmouth followed by tea and cake. Details will follow nearer the time. Ben Eastleigh Fusion Choir After a two-year gap, the dynamic Eastleigh Fusion Choir will be performing in St Barnabas again on Saturday 8 th December the weekend of the Christmas Tree Festival. Their programme will as usual include a variety of well-known songs as well as Christmas items. Doors open at 7pm and start time is 7.30pm. I have tickets, so you can see me after church on Sunday mornings or contact me, ideally by text to Definitely a date to put in your diary now! Tony King Crocus bulb planting Mike and Jenny Maunder have kindly donated 500 crocus bulbs for the churchyard. If anyone would like to plant a bag of 50, please see Jill. Messy Church We are discussing the future development of Messy Church, if you have any comments, thoughts or ideas about it, please speak to Claire, Sally, Jill or Emma. For our daily prayers All those who live in Broad Lane and Coronation Road. Those we know who are unwell including: Jan White, Wendy Tucker, Clare Burton, Derek Lord, Peter Angelis, Carolyn Berry, Marion & John Harrison, Arthur O Loughlin, Sydney Dean, Bridget Sanderson and David Thomas.
