God s love is in all creation. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things. By God s love, we are daily nurtured. Love endures all things. Love never ends. Through God s love we find salvation. Now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. 5 Music Notes Ich habe genug, (I have enough), BWV 82, by JS Bach ( ) is a church cantata for solo bass voice composed in 1727, while Bach was in Leipzig. It was set to be performed for the Feast of the Purification of Mary on February 2nd. This morning we will hear this work, accompanied by strings with organ continuo. Introit Aria Ich habe genug, Ich habe den Heiland, das Hoffen der Frommen, Auf meine begierigen Arme genommen; Ich habe genug! Ich hab ihn erblickt, Mein Glaube hat Jesum ans Herze gedrückt; Nun wünsch ich, noch heute mit Freuden Von hinnen zu scheiden. It is enough, I have taken the Saviour, the hope the devout, into my eager arms; It is enough! I have looked on him, my faith has pressed Jesus to my heart; now I wish, even today with joy to depart from this world. During Communion Recitative Ich habe genug. Communion Setting Hymn 756 Michael Dudman AM, ( ) studied organ at the NSW Conservatorium of Music with Norman Johnston. After graduation, he held organist positions in England at Ely Cathedral (Assistant) and at Grimsby Parish Church prior to his appointment as Organist and Choirmaster at Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, Newcastle, NSW, in He composed this setting of Holy Communion in 1979, and it became widely used throughout the Newcastle Anglican Diocese and is now sung in a good many Anglican and Uniting churches throughout Australia. The success of Dudman s setting and others over the past 40 years reflects the move from settings for choir to settings for congregations. At the time of his death, he held a personal chair of music at the University of Newcastle.
