Musical Notes The First Sunday of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ both at Christmas and at the end of time. The opening hymn #414 The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns looks forward to Jesus crowned in glory at the end of time. The cantor and the congregation turn to Jesus in Psalm #993 To You, O Lord, I Lift My Soul and joyfully announce the coming of the King in preparation hymn Soon and Very Soon (#865). The Liturgy of the Eucharist will be found in the Mass of Light, starting with #361 Holy, Holy, Holy. Through the Communion hymn we ask God to be with us in O Come, O Come Emmanuel (#395), while at the end of today s service, we share the joy of the coming of our Lord with hymn #409 People, Look East. What is the Cantor s role in the Liturgy? The cantor (Latin for singer ) proclaims the Psalm and may also sing the Gospel Acclamation and verse, key roles dependent on musical training and good diction. The cantor also acts as a song leader for the congregation when the choir is not present (Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship (Washington, DC: USCCB, 2007)). Posadas The Posadas schedule will be as follows: 1) December 16th at 1 p.m. 2) December 17th at 7 p.m. 3) December 18th at 7 p.m. 4) December 19th at 8 p.m. 5) December 20th at 7 p.m. 6) December 21st at 7 p.m. 7) December 22nd at 7 p.m. 8) December 23rd at 1 p.m. The Colors of Christmas Concert The Jackson Hole Chorale presents The Colors of Christmas, a free concert on Sunday, December 2nd at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church. Refreshments will be served. Teton County s Community Nativity Sets and Crèches will be on display, courtesy of Our Common Ground. If you have a nativity scene to share (big, small, old, unique, etc.), please either bring it to the Parish Hall in the church by 3 p.m. on December 2nd, or call (307) for pick up, display, and return. Messiah Sing-Along The Jackson Hole Chorale and Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra invite you to the 2nd annual Messiah Sing-Along on Sunday, December 9th at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church. This event is free. We hope to see you there!
