There is only one Mass this Sunday at 8:30 am. CCD for children follows the Mass. You may have already noticed the payments listed published in the notice board. Please see and make sure your payments are entered in the list. If there are some errors let the trustees know about it. It is also a kind reminder to pay your dues to the church. LENTEN RETREAT: MARCH 18, 19 & 20, 2016 Please note the dates and time for the retreat and try to attend the retreat without fail. We have simultaneous preaching for kids, youth and adults. Pray for the success of the retreat. It is also an occasion to make your confession during the lent. You shall notice the time and date in the previous bulletins. ESSAY COMPETITION FOR CCD CHILDREN On March 13th Sunday after the second Mass we are conducting an essay competition for our children. The theme of the essay is the year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Mar Francis. For details, the participants shall contact Deepa Sebastian or Shiby George. ST.JOSEPHS FEAST We are celebrating the feast of St. Joseph on March 19th. Novena starts on 10th March. Those who would like to sponsor the Mass with novena shall pay $100/- towards church. SECOND COLLECTION On coming Sunday (3/6/2016) there would be a second collection for St. Mary s Church Kalluvayal which is my home parish church. Since 4 years my home parish is constructing a church. Since my parish family members are mostly small farmers, they find it very difficult to complete the construction. My Parish priest is requesting a help from our parish. The church blessing is on May 4th 2016.Your donations could be made in favor of Our Lady of Health Coral Springs. Mathew and Bindhu could participate in the burial services. Fr. 3 CCD CORNER Fasting -Sr. Jolly Maria SABS Fasting is another pillar of Christian life. What is fasting? We may think it is just renouncing certain food items. This is just one side of fasting. Prophet Isaiah teaches us that the real fasting is not just renouncing the food but humiliating oneself. Fasting has to lead us to humiliate ourselves on our sins. The divine offices of Syro Malabar church in the prayer of lent tells us fasting means renouncing of anger, jealousy etc. And one more thing, we renounce food. It has more meaning, when it becomes the food for a poor. So this time when we are fasting we shall try to give that food to a poor person. March, the month dedicated to St. Joseph Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. Due to the solemnity of Saint Joseph on March 19, this month is devoted to this great saint, the foster father of Christ. "It greatly behooves Christians, while honoring the Virgin Mother of God, constantly to invoke with deep piety and confidence her most chaste spouse, Saint Joseph. We have a well grounded conviction that such is the special desire of the Blessed Virgin herself." --Pope Leo XIII PRAYER Glorious Saint Joseph! Thou to whom God confided the care of the two persons He most loved on earth, forget not that we too have been entrusted to thy care. Thou who art our protector and our father, deign to take our interests into thy own hands, but above all, watch over all that concerns our souls. O virtuous guardians of the Holy Family, by thy powerful intercession, make us a family of saints. And since to merit thy favors, we must strive to imitate thy virtues, obtain for us all a sincere will to walk in thy footsteps and to be like thee, full of love for Jesus and Mary and faithful to all our other duties. PIN Blessed Frederic Ozanam Bicentenary Scholarship A special meeting of KRCC held at Kottayam Chaithanya Pastoral Centre on 25 th May 2014.The following Presidents of the 10 CCs of KRCC, attended who are getting Bicentenary Scholarships sponsored by SSVP, Our Lady of Health, South Florida, USA. KK Jose Each CC Presidents presented a brief report of the Scholarships and its execution. The important factors are the following: Each CC selected the students from different conferences with correct scrutiny. Scholarships were distributed in three ways: 1. Officials visited the houses and gave them individually. 2. Some others were given by the spiritual advisors at churches. 3. Some others distributed in a special function conducted by CC or AC. (In Pathanamthitta CC at Naranganam it was given by His Eminence Cardinal Mar Cleemees on 8 th December in the church feast day celebration.) All the Presidents have submitted completion and renewal forms to the NCI in December 2013 except Vijayapuram. (Due to some technical defects, Vijayapuram CC resubmitted them to the NCI the last day). 7 CCs collected letters from the students or guardians which were sending herewith. All the presidents complained about the delay in getting the fund. For instance the check was given on 19 th May2013 by Bro. Mathew V Kurian. But the amount distributed only in October/November The second installment is not issued yet. All of them requested for the speedy procedures. It is better to issue the first installment in May itself. The procedure should be started in March and completed by May. The second installment shall be given in January and renewal application in March. Arrangements should be formulated within KRCC to speed up its transactions. The other CCs are eagerly waiting for the second phase. Being the costal and the forest area, the CCs namely Allapuzha, Bathery, Kannoor, Palakkad and Neyyattinkara are to be given priority. Bro. Mathew V Kurian from USA, the sponsor clearly stated the objectives of the project. It intends to be an access to SSVP, to promote values among the children, to induce spirituality to the students. It helps the students to get better education in their teenage for developing their best carriers to get jobs to uplift their backwardness. He admired the efforts of the CC Presidents to make the project a success. He handed over the checks for the second installment to the National President Bro. VMJ Balaswamy. Bro. VMJ Balaswamy declared that a four member committee will be formed to govern the project. He informed that the application, completion and renewal forms are to be collected and forwarded to the National President by KRCC in order to over -come the delay. He assured that the CCs will get the fund before 2 nd week of June Considering the intension of the sponsor the meeting suggested convening a special orientation class for the students once in a year at CC level. It can be started at 9.00 with a warming up & skill development activity. Group discussion and a study class in a specific subject are to be followed. 20 students with their parents can attend the class. The expense is expected to be Rs.7500/-. 5 Spread Christ s compassion in India: Cardinal Cleemis Bangalore: The Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) began its 32nd plenary with its leader stressing the need to spread Christ s compassion in the country. The March 2-9 assembly will hold intense deliberations on the nation s current socio-political situation, Indian family, challenges faced by the religious, role of the laity and the Church s attitudes and responses to the poor and downtrodden in the country, Cardinal Baselios Cleemis told the inaugural meeting. Some 180 bishops, priests, nuns and lay leaders are attending the 8-day assembly at St. John s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Southern India. The opening ceremonies on March 2 included a solemn Mass led by Apostolic Nuncio to India Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio and an inaugural meeting.cardinal Cleemis, who is the CBCI president, urged the prelates to uphold the sacredness of the family. The prelate, who heads millions of Catholics in India, described consecrated life as a gift from God to the Church. Such a life, he added, helps the Church continue its mission in the country efficiently. The prelate also noted that Pope Francis s leadership has been inspiring the global Church. As part of the formal opening of the assembly, the CBCI office bearers lighted a lamp kept on the dais. The response of the Church in India to the present day challenges is the theme of the assembly where Christian, Hindu and Muslim scholars will present papers for discussions in the coming days. Archbishop Salvatore also delivered the homily at the opening Mass. A message from Pope Francis was read out during the Mass. Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, who was the chief guest at the inaugural meeting, described Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of social transformation and a gift to the world. In his biennial report, CBCI secretary general Archbishop Albert D Souza noted that in the last two years the Indian Catholic Church has seen much growth and stability and has extended support to the Universal Church. Referring to the issues and events in the country and the responses of the Church, the report stated that the government under the influence of the fundamental ideology has weakened the secular fabric of the society. The report also regretted that the narrow understanding nationalism is another treat to our democracy. The chain of attacks on churches, especially the desecration of the churches in Delhi and vandalizing of them in Nadia and Agra also figured in the report. Pope, Patriarch bridge Great Schism Havana: Pope Francis and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill have called for restoration of unity between the two Churches at historic talks in Cuba. The February 12 meeting was the first between a Pope and a Russian Church head since the Western and Eastern branches of Christianity split in the 11th Century. At a news conference after the meeting, Patriarch Kirill said the discussions were open and brotherly, while Pope Francis described them as very sincere. We hope our meeting contributes to the reestablishment of this unity wished for by God, their joint declaration said. The document called on the world community to defend Christians, saying that in many countries of the Middle East and North Africa whole families, villages and cities of our brothers and sisters in Christ are being completely exterminated. Their churches are being barbarously ravaged and looted, their sacred objects profaned, their monuments destroyed. Russian state TV described the talks between the two men as the meeting of the millennium. Patriarch Kirill has headed the Russian Orthodox Church since February 2009, while Pope Francis took up his role in March The Catholic Church has more than a billion members worldwide, while the Russian Orthodox Church numbers about 165 million. The Russian Church is the largest and most powerful in the Orthodox faith, which is made up of a number of separate churches. More than 300,000 people welcomed Pope when he arrived in Mexico, which has the world s second largest Catholic population. Finally!, Pope Francis exclaimed as he hugged Patriarch Kirill in the small, wood-paneled VIP room of Havana s airport, where the three-hour encounter took place. We are brothers, the Pope added. Patriarch Kirill agreed and said, Now things are easier. The two Church leaders exchanged three kisses on the cheek. This is the will of God, the Pope further said. The meeting and signing of a joint declaration was decades in the making and cemented Francis reputation as a risk-taking statesman who values dialogue, bridge-building and rapprochement at almost any cost. The Pope had brief talks in Cuba before heading off on a five-day visit to Mexico, where he was scheduled to bring a message of solidarity with the victims of drug violence, human trafficking and discrimination to some of that country s most violent and poverty-stricken regions. The Vatican hopes the meeting will improve relations with other Orthodox churches and spur progress in dialogue over theological differences that have divided East from West ever since the Great Schism of 1054 that split Christianity.
