The content of the phase is Lord s Prayer and the last blessing prayer. There may be a confusion that why we are repeating the Lord s Prayer. Fathers of the church gives the answer to this question. Fathers teach us that all the Christian prayers started with Lord s Prayer ends also with the same prayer. I think it is clear, the meaning of the lord s prayer with the holy, holy, holy. So in the formation of the liturgy, according to the teachings of fathers, the Lord s Prayer became the part of our holy Qurbana. And also it shows the holistic communion with the earthly and the heavenly beings. Together with them we call God as father. The final blessing prayer is called huthama. Huthama is signing everyone in the name and sign of Sleeva (cross). The huthama prayer is always said at the right side of the altar standing near to the rails of altar. It shows the second coming of our Lord when the last judgement would take place. The holy bible proclaims that Isho is seated at the right side of the father. And so the sign of Lord Isho is placed at the right of the thronos (altar). As also the second coming is from the right side of father. So it is not meaningful to say the huthama from the bema for the convenience. It must be done from the beginning of the Madbaha at the right side. The blessing is given to the community in order to live in the presence of Lord in our day today life. The liturgical celebration is ended with the concluding prayer of the priest. The priest kissing the altar gives thanks to the Lord for allowing him to offer the Qurbana and proclaims that he is ready for sacrificing himself for the Lord. This prayer is from the Maronite rite. It is to be noted that it is the prayer of the priest alone, not of the community. It represents the close relation between priest and the altar. Questions: 1. Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, president of the Indian bishops' conference met with Modi in New Delhi. He was accompanied by Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, the conference's secretary-general, and Father Joseph Chinnayyan, deputy secretary-general. The prime minister "appreciated the sentiments of the bishops and assured that he would favorably consider the proposal," Father Chinnayyan said. The church delegation also thanked Modi for the government s continued efforts to rescue Salesain Father Tom Uzunnalil, who was abducted in Yemen early March. They requested the prime minister to "personally intervene for the safe release" of the priest. 4 Christians dismiss Hindu Jesus Mumbai: Christians in India have refused to be drawn into a controversy over a claim that Jesus Christ was a Hindu and Christianity was just a sect of Hinduism. There is an attempt to re-write history and draw us into controversy. Christianity is well grounded and based on the person of Jesus who without a doubt is a real person in history, says Fr Nigel Barrett, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Bombay. The Catholic priest was reacting to a news item about upcoming release of a book making those outlandish claims by a trust linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS, the national volunteers corps), the umbrella organization for rightwing Hindu groups. The RSS is welcome to claim what they will, it doesn t affect us. Our faith in Jesus is based on a personal encounter with Christ, Father Barrett added. The trust, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak (Savarkar National Memorial), preserves and propagates literature and ideology of Ganesh Damodar Savarkar, the book s author, and his younger brother Veer Savarkar Ganesh one of the five founders of RSS. The elder Savarkar wrote the book, Christ Parichay (introduction to Christ), in 1946, claiming to present evidence, references and other materials to prove that Christ was Hindu. According to him, Jesus came to India to study the Vedas, and became an expert in Yoga. He then returned to his country to preach the right path or religion. While preaching, he got involved in a political storm and was crucified, but miraculously escaped alive. The book claims the Essenes cult rescued the crucified Christ and revived him with medicinal plants and herbs from the Himalayas. It says Christ attained Samadhi in Kashmir, India s northernmost state. It also claims Jesus was a dark complexioned Vishwakarma Brahmin by birth and that Christianity is just a sect of Hinduism. While it does not specify where Christ was born, it says the present day Palestinian and Arab territories were Hindu land and that Christ traveled to India where he learnt yoga. Father Warner D Souza, director of the Bombay Archdiocesan Heritage Museum, says such books cannot shake the faith of Christians. Citing previous claims that Christ is buried in Kashmir, Fr D Souza said that it was a waste of time to concentrate on such hypothetical historical questions. According to him, the Gospels and The New Testament were not written to give historical facts. They are to give faith and experience to their disciplines. So, such a book will hardly disturb true Christians. The book claims Christ s sacred thread ceremony (janeyu) was held when he was 12, as per Brahmin tradition, and that he wore the sacred thread like any other Hindu. It also claims that Christianity was a Hindu cult and doctrine introduced by Christ and was never a separate religion. The author also claims that people from the Essenes cult, which practiced Yoga and spiritual science, saved Christ after he was crucified. They then treated him with medicinal herbs and plants to revive him from his deathbed. After this, Christ was taken to Kashmir where he prayed to Lord Shiva, the book adds. It claims Christ spent the last phase of his life in the Himalayas. A tomb where his remains are buried, it claims, is known by his name. According to the book, Arabia was a Hindu land and Jews were Hindus. Savarkar claims Arabic has many Sanskrit and Tamil words. He further claims that Palestine s Arabic Language was a version of the Tamil language. Savarkar says Jesus family dressed in a typical Indian way. The family had Hindu signs on their bodies, he says, adding that the name of Joseph (Christ s father) was derived from Sheshep, which is further derived from Sheshappa (a common Tamil name). There is no mala fide intention in reprinting this particular book after 70 years, Ranjit Savarkar, executive president, Swatantryaveer Savarkar National Memorial, told mid-day February 22. It is one of the books that my grandfather (Ganesh Savarkar) authored. His books are not available and hence we have decided to publish them again for the benefit of readers. Savarkar claimed he wrote the book to present evidence, references and other materials to prove that Christ was Hindu. According to him, Jesus came to India to study the Vedas, and became an expert in Yoga. He then returned to his country to preach the right path or religion. While preaching, he got involved in a political storm and was crucified, but miraculously escaped alive. Savarkar also said the book was written to remind the Christian world that they have snatched away Christ s Hindunness and to repay the debt of Christ to us that he gave by hurling the flag of Hinduism beyond India. I have done this work and I am satisfied with it. Let this literary worship of Christ or Keshao the Krishna reach his divine feet, he concluded. A passage in the book says Christ after being crucified came to Kashmir with a certain Chetan Nath, became healthy, and with Nath s help, established a math (monastery) at the foothills of the Himalayas, probably in Kashmir. He worshipped Lord Shiva there for three years and achieved darshan (vision) of Shiva. He gathered knowledge and energy and placed the trishoola (trident), a seed of the world. He worshipped Lord Shiva in the form of a Linga (phallus). Sadhus (ascetics) and people arrived from all directions to stay with him and accepted him as Guru, the spiritual teacher. This way, he carried the work of the cult till he was 49 years old, when he decided to leave his physical body. He sat in a yogic posture and went into deep samadhi (trance) and left the physical body. This way, Ishanath (Isa or Christ), terminated his incarnation. Natha-Namawali (Indian scripture) quotes his name as Ishanatha. Another claim in the book is that the Bible is not Jesus s preaching. 4 (Source: MattersIndia)

Catholic priest and three lay persons attacked by mob Coimbatore A Catholic priest and three lay persons were hospitalized after a mob attacked them in Coimbatore, an industrial city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on January 28, Officials of Ramanathapuram Syro Malabar diocese met S.P. Velumani, state minister for Rural Development who was in Coimbatore, to demand action against the attackers. The minister described the January 28 incident as communal and an attempt to unite Hindus ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit to Coimbatore on February 2, Diocesan public relations officer (PRO) Fr Johnson Veeppattuparambil, who was in the team that met the minister, told Matters India. According to the PRO, a group of 35 young people, suspected to be members of rightwing Hindu groups, beat Fr. Jose Kannumkuzhy and three members of Diocesan Pastoral Council, when they went to enquire about the arrests of four priests managing Assisi Snehalaya (abode of love), a center for HIV patients in Ettimadai, some 20 km south of Coimbatore. The victims belonged to Ramanathapuram Syro-Malabar diocese. They were admitted to a hospital on January 28 where the priest is in a serious condition. The others were discharged after three days. The CBCI press noted said that the mob forced the priest and others to walk on the highway and continued to torture them. It is alleged that the local police, though informed of the mob attack, did not act promptly, it added. The Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) Monday demanded immediate inquiry into the attack on a Catholic priest and three lay leaders in Coimbatore, a textile city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. 65. Church vandalized in Chhattisgarh, five injured Raipur: A group of unidentified men attacked and vandalised a Church in Khamaridh area of of Raipur on Sunday March 6. Reportedly, five people have been injured in the incident. Arun Pannalal, the Predient of Chhattisgarh Chrisitian Forum, alleged that the attack was carried out by Bajrang Dal men who forcefully entered the Church and vandalised it, Indian Express reported. Attackers were chanting Jai Shree Ram and were making allegations of religious conversion, said Pannalal. He also alleged that the men ripped off women s clothes and threw a twoyear-old boy on the ground. A group of people from downtrodden families in the village had set up the church under a tin shed, where they perform prayers every Sunday, he said, refuting the conversion charge. Based on the victims complaint, a case has been registered under sections 452 (housetrespass after preparation for hurt), 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 147 (rioting) of the IPC, Raipur Additional Superintendent of Police Neeraj Chandrakar said. 66. Church vandalized in Tamil Nadu Coimbatore: A group of Hindu radicals has damaged a newly constructed church in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The March 12 incident has led to tension in Kalapetty area. Rightwing Hindu groups have been opposing the construction of the place of worship belonging to the Church of South India. A small church existed on a 25-cent plot since A temple is located near. The Protestant Christians built a bigger church with permission from the district collector. Some Hindu radicals in Coimbatore then moved a local court to stop the church construction. The church authorities obtained permission from the Madras High Court to build the church. The high court had instructed the police to give protection to the church. The church was dedicated on March 9 amid protests from members of the Hindu outfit, who are said to be outsiders. On March 12, a group of 15 people pushed away the policemen on guard, damaged the church s compound wall, main door, furniture and the altar. 67. Makeshift chapel burnt down in Nizamabad Telangana: A makeshift prayer hall belonging to the Christian community in Gopanpally village of Nizamabad in Telangana was burnt down by unknown people. The Nizamabad Superintendent of Police said that the village Panchayat had objected to the construction of the prayer hall, following which unknown people burnt down the hall late at night on Friday March 18.The police is yet to make an arrest but a case has been registered, DNA reported. According to reports, earlier a local pastor and members of his congregation in Nizamabad were beaten by a mob of 40 Hindu radicals after they allegedly tried to convert Hindus to Christianity. The attack, which occurred during a prayer gathering, resulted in the hospitalisation of six persons, including a four-year-old girl whose leg was broken, according to locals. It was a very scary scene. They tore my cassock and I received blows, punches, kicks from all directions as I was their prime target. Bibles were snatched from us and were tore and trampled.
