Away in a Manger Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus no crying he makes. I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, and stand by my side until morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in thy tender care, and fit us for heaven, to live with thee there. In the bleak mid-winter everyone In the bleak mid-winter Frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow, In the bleak mid-winter Long ago. choir Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him Nor earth sustain; Heaven and earth shall flee away When He comes to reign: In the bleak mid-winter A stable-place sufficed The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ. solo Enough for Him, whom cherubim Worship night and day, A breast full of milk and a manger full of hay; Enough for Him, whom angels Fall down before, The ox and ass and camel which adore. everyone What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb, If I were a wise man I would do my part, Yet what I can I give Him, Give my heart.

We stand and now our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem. Glory be to the Father, glory be to the Son, Glory be to the Holy Spirit both now and ever more. and now our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem. Welcome As the candles are lit, we sing: Let us pray: Yours is the day and yours the night, Lord God: Let the Sun of Justice shine so steadily in our hearts, That we may come at length To that light where you dwell eternally. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen

Reading: Philippians 4:4-5 Psalm 148: Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights; Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his hosts. Alleluia, praise the name of the Lord. alleluia, alleluia. Praise him sun and moon, praise him, shining stars. Praise him, highest heavens, and the waters above the heavens. Alleluia, praise the name of the Lord. alleluia, alleluia. Let us pray with Mary, woman of Joy! The angel Gabriel, from Jesus came, his wings as drift as snow, his eyes as flame. "All hail", said he, " thou lowly maiden Mary, most highly favour'd lady!" Gloria. "For known a blessed Mother thou shalt be." All generations laud and honour thee. Thy Son shall be Emmanuel, by seers foretold, most highly favour'd lady!" Gloria. Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head. "To me be as it pleaseth God," she said. "My soul shall laud and magnify his holy name!" most highly favour'd lady!" Gloria.

Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born in Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn; and Christian folk throughout the world will ever say: "Most highly favour'd lady!" Gloria. Reading Psalm 83 My soul is longing and yearning for the house of the Lord. My heart and soul ring out their joy to God the living God. How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord God of hosts. The sparrow finds a home, the swallow a nest for her brood, she lays her young by your altars, O Lord, my King, my God. How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord God of hosts. They are happy who dwell in your house for ever singing your praise, They are happy whose strength is in you, they walk with ever growing strength. How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord God of hosts. Glory to the Father, glory to the Son, glory to the Holy Spirit now and for ever. Amen. How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord God of hosts. Let us pray with Mary, woman of silence! O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light; the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth, and praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth; for Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above, while mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love. How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heaven. No ear may hear his coming; but in this world of sin, where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray; Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell: O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel. Reading: The Visitation; Luke 1: Reflection Mary the Dawn and Christ the Light of Day, Mary the Gate and Christ the Heav'nly Way, Mary the Root and Christ the Mystic Vine, Mary the Grape and Christ the Sacred Vine, Mary the Beacon, Christ the Haven's Rest, Mary the Mirror, Christ the Vision Blest. Woman of love who Son of God conceived. Woman of faith, "blest since you have believed." Woman of sorrows, standing by the cross, woman of prayer with Church at Pentecost. Mother of Christ, our brother, friend and king! Mother of God, with you to God we sing! Intercessions Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. 1. Blest art thou among women; blest is the fruit of thy womb. 2. Holy Mother of God, pray for us sinners now. 3. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us at our death. 1 We pray that war will cease as we await the birth of the Prince of Peace. 2 We pray that hunger will end in lands far away and here in our land, as we think of the Food bank 3 We pray that Christian people find a space for Christ to be conceived within this Advent tide.

4 We pray that each one here may, like Mary, be better disciples of her Son and to one another. Let us pray Lord, open our hearts to your grace. We have learned to believe that your Son became one of us. Lead us by his passion and cross To the glory of his resurrection. We make our prayer through him who was in the beginning, whose kingdom is among us And who will come again, Christ our Lord. Amen. Everyone who wishes is invited to come forward and lay a small Christmas gift before the Icon. These will go the Greater Maryhill Food bank Christmas Distribution. Magnificat My soul proclaims the Lord my God, my Spirit sings his praise! He looks on me, he lifts me up, and gladness fills my days. All nations now will share my joy, his gifts he has outpoured; his little one he has made great; I magnify the Lord. For those who love his holy name, his mercy will not die. His strong right arm puts down the proud and lifts the lowly high. He fills the hungry with good things, the rich he sends away. The promise made to Abraham is filled to endless day.

A Prayer of dedication Silent night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright, round yon virgin mother and child; holy infant so tender and mild: sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night. Shepherds quake at the sight, glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing alleluia: Christ, the Saviour is born, Christ, the Saviour is born. Silent night, holy night. Son of God, love's pure light radiant beams from thy holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace: Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth. we keep in mind the beginning of all things, the presence of God among us The Prologue of St John In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and everything was made through him that was made; in him was life and that life was the light of men, and that light shines now in the darkness. Jesus, Redeemer, Lamb of God. You are with me always, you are my Lord. The light to all men had come to the world, and the world though made by him, did not know him. His own people knew him not, but to all who believed he gave power to become the children of God. Jesus, Redeemer, Lamb of God. You are with me always, you are my Lord. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, full of grace and truth; we've seen his glory. He is the only Son of God, who has given us himself, in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Jesus, Redeemer, Lamb of God. You are with me always, you are my Lord. Blessing

Hark, the herald angels sing, glory to the new-born King; peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled: joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies, with the angelic host proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem. Hark, the herald angels sing, glory to the new-born King. Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, late in time behold him come, offspring of a Virgin's womb! Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail the incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hark, the herald angels sing, glory to the new-born King. Hail the heaven-born Prince of peace! Hail the Sun of righteousness! Light and life to all he brings risen with healing in his wings; mild he lays his glory by, born that man no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth. Hark, the herald angels sing, glory to the new-born King.
