Do not be afraid for behold I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 Christmas Mass during the Night Holy Rosary Chapel 7:30 pm Prelude 8:00 pm Mass
Prelude It Came Upon the Midnight Clear It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old From angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold: Peace on the Earth, good will to all, from heav n s all gracious King The world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing. Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled, And still their heav nly music floats O er all the weary world; Above its sad and lowly plains they bend on hov ring wing; And ever o er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing. And you, beneath life s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, Who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow, Look now! For glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing; O rest beside the weary road and hear the angels sing. For lo, the days are hast ning on, by prophets long foretold When with the ever circling years comes round the age of gold, When peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling, And all the world give back the song which now the angels sing. Edmund H Sears, alt Richard Storrs Willis,
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hark! The Herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn king! Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled! Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th angelic host proclaim: Christ is born in Bethlehem. Refrain: Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn King! Christ, by highest heav n adored; Christ, the everlasting Lord! Late in time behold him come, Offspring of the Virgin s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail th incarnate Deity, Pleased on earth with us to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel! Refrain Hail the heav'n born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all God brings, Ris'n with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, Born that we no more may die, Born to raise us from the earth, Born to give us second birth. ext: Charles Wesley. Alt. Music: Felix Mendelssohn. Public Domain. 9 Profession of Faith I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. 9
Intercessions Response (sung): 10
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST Presentation and Offering of the Gifts O Little Town of Bethlehem O Little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by; Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary and gathered all above While mortals sleep the angels keep their watch of wond ring love. O morning starts together proclaim the holy birth! And praises sing to God the King, and peace to all on earth. How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is giv n! So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heav n. No ear may hear his coming, but in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him still the dear Christ enters in. Where children pure and happy pray to the blessed Child, Where misery cries out to thee, Son of the Mother mild Where charity stands watching and faith holds wide the door The dark night wakes, the glory breaks and Christmas comes once more. Phillips Brooks, Lewis H. Redner,

THE COMMUNION RITE The Lord s Prayer Exchange of Peace 13
Communion Songs What Child Is This? What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This this is Christ the King whom shepherds guard and angels sing! Haste, haste to bring God laud, The babe, the child of Mary. Why lies the babe in mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. This this is Christ the King whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring God laud, The babe, the child of Mary. So bring the incense, gold and myrrh, Come all creation to worship The Source of Love salvation brings Let loving hearts embrace This this is Christ the King whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring God laud, The babe, the child of Mary. Text: William C. Dix. Music:: English folk song, 16 th century. Public Domain. 14
Silent Night Silent night, holy night, All is calm, all is bright Round yon Virgin Mother and Child, Holy Infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night, Shepherds quake at the sight; Glories stream from heaven afar, Heav'nly hosts sing alleluia; Christ, the Savior, is born! Christ, the Savior, is born! Silent night, holy night, God is come, love's pure light Radiant beams from thy holy face, With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, born to redeem us, Jesus, born to redeem. Text: Joseph Mohr; English tr. by John F. Young, Music: Franz X. Gruber. Public Domain 15
Blessing and Dismissal Joy to the World Joy to the World! The Lord is come: Let earth receive her King Let ev ry heart prepare him room And heav n and nature sing, and heav n and nature sing And heav n and heav n and nature sing. Joy to the world! The Savior reigns: Let all their songs employ While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains, Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding job. He rules the world with truth and grace and makes the nations prove The glories of his righteousness And wonders of his love, and wonders of his love and wonders, wonders of his love.
